Lakraj Heritage Hotel in Matara

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location. The bathroom was a complete mess – the shower had no walls or curtain, so the entire bathroom floor would get soaked. During our 5-day stay, there was no cleaning service, not even an attempt. If you're traveling with family, definitely avoid this place, as the extra bed (which was a sofa) was incredibly uncomfortable, and the air conditioning was aimed directly at it.

The only good thing about this hotel is the view from the window. The hotel itself is old and poorly maintained, and the staff seems lost. Breakfast was terrible.

We visited this place for the second time after staying here last year January. But this time our stay was disappointing. On arrival, no one was there to help us with our luggage. We were shown two rooms on the first floor, the balcony railing of one of the rooms was clearly broken and unsafe, specially if you have children. This was not informed to us until we noticed. So we upgraded to the deluxe rooms on the second floor, for which they charged us an additional amount than that was informed to upgrade rooms to us over the phone by the manager. Even after the upgrade to deluxe rooms, we were not provided with basic amenities like sugar and creamer for tea making. Even after we requested three times, they said they forgot about this. Extra pillows supplied in the wardrobe was full of mould and there were no pillow covers. Food quality is substandard. We found hair inside the omelette. There’s no one from the staff available after 9.30pm in the hotel except the security officer. We requested for their assistance but was informed that they will only be available on the next day after 8am. Manager’s phone was also switched off by this time. On the positive side, they were flexible enough to allow us to have music inside our room balcony and arrange a late breakfast since we had plans the next day early morning. The location is beautiful and peaceful. Overall, Poor service but nice location.
