Deutsch Lanka Hotel & Restaurant in Hikkaduwa

Absolutely the worst “3-star hotel” I’ve ever stayed in, feels more like an abandoned highway motel. Avoid at all costs:

INFESTED: Flies, mosquitos and random flying creatures everywhere. Lobby hits you with a swarm the moment you walk in.

Rooms Disaster: Dirty, neglected, bathroom disgusting. We literally spent our afternoon spraying and cleaning insects instead of relaxing.

Balcony? Forget it: Filthy, clearly untouched for ages. We didn’t even dare to open the door.

Fake Photos: The booking pictures are pure illusion, clever angles hiding reality. What you see online is NOT what you get.

Unhygienic Bedding: Stained bedsheets, damp towels, horrible smell. Absolutely unacceptable.

Breakfast... They used the same unwashed knife and board for vegetables and fruit. Everything tasted like onions. Zero hygiene.

To finish it off wifi doesn't exist in the rooms. Only in the lobby. I guess wifi extenders are too expensive for them

If we had any alternative, we would’ve left on Day 1. Save your sanity, money, and health. Stay literally anywhere else.

Our first impression of Palazzo Beach Hotel was very disappointing. The lobby was full of flies, and there were visible mould stains all around the ceiling. In the back corridor near the seating area, there was a very strong smell of urine, up on further review it appeared because the ACs units were licking which made the common areas extremely unpleasant.
The room we were given was not the Deluxe room we had booked. The room had a strong smell of damp, and the hygiene standards were unacceptable with the bed linen appearing dirty as some areas showed signs of mould, the towels were also stained and did not seem clean. Up on removing the curtains we notice heavy mould built up around the windows confirming the smell of damp. On the outside, the pool area had no shade despite a nice palm is futures on Booking.com pictures, the water was green making unthinkable the option to have a swim even in the hottest of days.
To top all of, the hotel does not provide access to the beach despite the name may suggest otherwise, the "beach" located on the other side of the main road is non existent as this is made of rock armour therefore the sea is unaccessible at all times.
Due to these conditions, we decided not to stay at the hotel. The level of cleanliness was far below even basic standards, and in our experience, this property does not meet the expectations of a 3-star hotel neither the 3.7 score on Google maps or the astonishing 8.6 of Booking.com .
I can confidently say that the reviews on Booking.com do not reflect the reality of this place, and that the photos posted on Booking.com are also misleading.
To top all off, Booking.com stated that with our cancellation we would be entitle to a 50% charge of the total booking but the hotel decided to charge 100% of it deepening our disappointment.
This was a very disappointing experience, I'd provide 0 star if possible and urge anyone to avoid this place or be prepared for disappointment!

The worst place ever. Locals, please avoid this place. Pool looks muddy. Reception area and the lobby , dirty and full of flies. Couches so dirty. Though it's a beach hotel, no access to the beach. Staff was clueless and not welcoming. Staff was complaining of mismanagement and lack of supplies to the rooms, bed sheets, soap and etc. We didn't check in but left the place to another location and got the advance refunded. Terrible experience. This is a no star hotel.

Old and dirty. The water in thewas green. Im restaurant all dishes on one flavor. I do not recommend staying in this property. hotel far from the city. the room was so dirty we decided not to stay. we were able to cancel the reservation. nice service.

Hotel is okay. But poor quality swimming pool. We used the adults pool and kids pool, but tiles in both pools were damaged. We had cut in our legs and my children's legs were also wounded.
