Hôtel Masson in Montreux

Very charming hotel which I personally absolutely loved. Staying there felt like living in Switzerland 200 years ago and in combination with the visit to the Chillon castle we had a great overall historic experience. Our main purpose was visiting the castle so the location was perfect as it is only a 10 min walk away (you do need a bit longer for a walk back as hotel is located on a pretty steep hill). We had a 4-course dinner at a hotel and it was delicious. Breakfast was great too. But the most amazing was the hotel staff. We felt very welcomed and service was just outstanding. We had some issues at the room but it was fixed very quickly. I will for sure come back.

The walk from the roadside to the hotel is uphill, and quite steep, making it a bit tiring to push luggage. The hotel has 3 or 4 floors, but no elevator. A tall male receptionist helped us carry our luggage up during check-in, but we had to carry it down ourselves during check-out; it's tiring for those who aren't strong. The room was different from what we booked, and we initially suspected the hotel had made a mistake. We were given an attic room with an irregularly shaped ceiling. The booking photos showed four country-style wooden beds, but in reality, there were three creaky wooden beds without headboards and one sofa bed. The bedside table, wardrobe, and other furniture looked old and flimsy, as if they might fall apart at any moment. The bathroom facilities were decent, with a shower and bathtub, a reasonable size, and a dormer window for ventilation.

The hotel's breakfast room wasn't large, but the breakfast was quite good, especially the croissants. Although there were quite a few people, everyone ate quietly, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

The room had a beautiful lake view from the window. The hotel has a small, quiet garden facing the lake, perfect for reading or simply relaxing. A short 10-minute walk downhill will take you to the beautiful Chillon Castle. In the mornings, when it's less crowded, you can quietly enjoy the castle's beauty.

The hotel management is very proud of its long history. During our stay, we didn't see any Asian guests; the vast majority were European, mostly families.

This is a beautiful hotel! The staff were helpful and breakfast was nice. Only giving it 4 stars due to location/accessibility. Coming off the public bus system, it is an intense hill for almost anyone, let alone with any luggage in tow. This is not at all a problem when coming via car/uber/taxi, but please beware to those with mobility concerns!

Absolutely wonderful! This hotel is a jewel that should not be missed. The staff are friendly, kind, and very helpful. The grounds are enchanting and the food is the best. Please, stay here if you can. It is the oldest hotel in the area, so you will have to put up with a few squeaks in the floor but that only adds to the charm. Thank you Hotel Masson!!!

Absolutely beautiful historic hotel running for 200 years ! Balconies with stunning views on the lake, great breakfast, cozy and wonderfully decorated rooms. A bit of a walk from downtown Montreux, but completely worth it. Will be staying here again the next time we’re in town.

The staircase creaks, and the living room, dinner room, and breakfast room each have their own unique character.

It has the flavor of the French-speaking region, but what's slightly off-putting is that both the front desk staff and other guests are rather... (details omitted).

It's very close to Chillon Castle, the surrounding area is beautiful, and the view of Lake Geneva from the window is stunning day and night. Worth staying one night.

This 200-year-old hotel retains its traditional layout, features, and services, making it a great choice for experiencing European hotel culture. While there's no elevator, the staff will help with luggage up and down the stairs free of charge. The facilities are well-maintained. The rooms are small but adequate, and there are many public areas. Rooms offer views of Lake Geneva, and Chillon Castle is within walking distance. The lakeside scenery is beautiful, and the Western-style buffet breakfast is quite good.
