I stayed at this hotel in Zanzibar with friends, and although everything seemed fine at first, we soon began to feel a strange and unwelcoming atmosphere. A few days later, we discovered that 240 euros had disappeared. They had been locked in the room and hidden among my belongings. My clothes were in disarray, and some of my friends' clothes were found inside my backpack, and inside out, a clear sign that someone had been searching. Money in Tanzanian shillings also disappeared from my friends' homes. During our stay, the owner welcomed several acquaintances to smoke in the common areas every evening, creating an uncomfortable and unsafe atmosphere. There were no other guests, and the treatment became distant. I had never felt so vulnerable in a place to stay. If you value your safety and your belongings, look elsewhere. This hotel does not meet the expectations of travelers in terms of honesty, respect, or professionalism.

The bungalow of hotel is the worst accomodation I've ever been to. Everything is old, shabby, poor quality, complete lack of maintenance. The socket is life-threatening, the electrical network is not working , there was no power for 12 hours.Cockroach in the bath. The staff is very nice.

The staff is very nice, the Swiss owner is incorrect, you have to pay for the accommodation in the hotel and the next day he will deduct the account and does not return the money.

This hotel turned out to be a disappointment and I will surely NOT recommend it to anyone due to their miserable customer service. We were unable to travel to Zanzibar due to Covid restrictions of Zanzibar (not our country), they were listed as a high-risk country on Dec 24th. Our airline had canceled our flights and we were physically unable to visit them.

I have asked the hotel several times nicely to please cancel our booking and process our refund back, but they have without any kind of empathy - declined! They have declined my request with, I quote: "Unfortunately I can not make an exception." Sad to say, I've spent my Christmas holidays dealing with this and emailing this poor hotel trying to find some sense in their mind.

After pleading several times for their goodwill and to have some human empathy for the situation that is happening, they firmly decided it is completely fair for them to keep our money for the service they haven't provided! This kind of behavior is disgusting and really a pathetic way of making a profit out of someone's misfortune.

The amount of money they took from me will certainly not make them rich, but will undoubtedly bring them more loss than wins. All of our friends have heard about this and all of the members of our communities will be strongly advised to not book Meliks hotel for their stay at Zanzibar. There are so many accommodations there, why would anyone bother with a place that treats their potential customers this way. Stolen money is bad luck, and what goes around comes around. Too bad they aren't aware of the hospitality sector and how much reviews and recommendations are important in this business.

I am a host myself, and I have issued full refunds for all of my bookings last year when Covid started. I have never even thought about keeping the money from the guests that were prevented from coming to my place. That would be stealing, and I am not a thief.

Oh, and funny to mention, the other hotel we booked on Zanzibar for later dates had issued a full refund and we will certainly book that hotel once the restrictions are lifted and we plan the next trip to Zanzibar. No doubt about it, we'll stay there even longer than what we intended now.

NOT RECOMMENDED! DIRTY, SMALL, NOT WHAT YOU SEE ON BOOKING. I would not recomment this accommodation. The place is dirty, small, the photos published on booking are not what you'll find on the site. the owner is not leaving in Tanzania and telephone published doesnt work. The only person in contact with the owner is a local guy, not very clean, staying at the accommodation. Who has physically attacked me when trying to take the pictures of the accommodation.If you want to stay in Zanzibar, definitely do not book this place.
