Disappointed big-time for real. We booked online and paid in full. But when we arrived (April 5, 2026 to be specific), first there was not receptionist, we waited a while, when he came he gave us a room which didn't match with what we booked for. We complained. So he took us to other alternative rooms, from ground floor to upper floor. None met our expectations. The rooms were so dirty, rusty, dark, unpleasant. Don't ask about the toilets please... You gonna puke. We had to stay only a single night and let go the other remaining night as we couldn't hold any longer. I regret booking and paying online, damn!!

Great eclectic historical guest house. Can't beat the price with breakfast. If you're looking for a unique place with a lot of history (1st guest house in Zanzibar) and you just need a room with breakfast and no frills then this is the place. Malindi Guest House is probably the best budget guest house in Stone Town. It's close to the ferry terminal, so arriving there is very convenient and it only takes a few minutes to walk into town. The decor is very unique, creative and beautiful. We stayed here a few times and it kept getting better. Some of the rooms are a little musty, but I think a bit mold is hard to avoid in Stone Town. Mahmoud was such a friendly host! He went out of his way to help us out and even let us store a bag for a week as we toured the island. Also, the breakfast is incredible!! We loved our stays there! Note - if you're sensitive to mold, ask for a room on the second floor. Also, it's next to a fish market and sometimes is a bit fishy smelling and noisy, but it didn't bother us much :) it's a great place for a great price.

I booked a room with A/C. Didn’t get that. It was hot. The guy at night that let me in didn’t wanna show me to my room. Finally, he took me to a room & said this will have to do. I said it’s not what I booked. He said, not my problem & left.

The location is quite close to the stone town port area and a local market. Hence, the area is quite noisy since the morning till evening. Driving to the hotel might be challenging for someone like us, who are new to the area. The room seemed to be rustic. The AC didnt work. The staff, Mahmoud, was very friendly. He helped us out a lot. The catering staff were also very pleasant.

Very nice place. Nice hotel with beautiful view to Zanzibara port and fish market. Located in history Stones town of Zanzibara city near port in city center. Nice and kind staff. Good and tasty food. Located in old, historical building. No dislikes. Liked everything. Thanks for chance to be there.

Stayed at a hotel in a dismal neighborhood with inadequate ventilation and dirty bedding. The rooms had a persistent musky odor and an exodus of mosquitoes, making the overall experience less than ideal. A challenging environment for those seeking comfort and fresh air, but for the 25 USD paid for a night,what you pay for is what you really get!

We arrived late from the airport and our rooms were given away. We were offered to stay on the roof deck without blankets, towels nor breakfast. A nightmare of a night. Booking,com reimbursed us but Malindi deducted 60 dollars from the credit card for keeping us and our luggage safe. Unbelievable !!!

The host is super relaxed and always very helpful, for example with a contact to rent a scooter or to keep our suitcases safe for a few days. In general, the accommodation has a lot of love for detail and is very individual and fancy designed in a positive way. In addition, the breakfast on the rooftop terrace overlooking the harbour is very good and very generous. We loved it. But of course you should not expect luxury, then you are in the wrong place.
