Reviews
We had dinner in the restaurant above the beach and the food and service was impeccable. Absolutely delicious.
Thai owner is a lovely quietly spoken man who started resort property in 2019 just before Covid and likely to be the vision behind the vision, unfortunately the office manager (possibly other owner) is rude and dismissive, has no problem yelling at guests and staff alike.
The resort has a rubbish problem slowly building up under each bungalow, along the beaches and walkways, our family collected rubbish everytime we swam or walked anywhere and my b-in-law attempted to deposit a huge bag of garbage with Reception but was laughed at and refused, sending him away pointing outside the resort. My sister was yelled at on arrival because she didn’t leave the lobby quickly enough (we were all staying for her 50th birthday celebration) and she was on the phone getting a birthday surprise of a room swap to waterside bungalow. I was also yelled at on departure with “you listen to me now” but I find her so rude it’s comical. Particularly the face of an incoming guest who was incredulous at how she was addressing people while her softly spoken staff were trying to welcome new guests.
I informed reception at 5pm one night that the women’s bathroom next to lobby was very dirty and bin overflowing with used toilet tissue (Thai toilets can’t flush) and was told by two Thai receptionists doing absolutely nothing that I should use another toilet and cleaners were back in the morning! ( I’ve worked almost two decades in 5 star hotels and resorts and staff saying “it’s not my job”is a sackable offence.
All in all a couple of tweaks and some guest service training (replace micro managing cranky office manager) and this is a 5 star property and well worth a visit.
We extended our stay at this place because we really liked the sea view, comfortable bungalows with a beautiful view, and the seclusion of the accommodations, yet close proximity to shops, cafes, and massages: everything is a 10-minute walk away, a bit uphill, so I wouldn't recommend it for older people.
The hotel restaurant is excellent, highly recommended. Good portions and good prices, cheaper than at Sairee Beach in the center.
My recommendation to the hotel is to invest in updating the bathrooms and plumbing in the rooms. And keep the air conditioners clean!
Otherwise, everything is great.
The balcony and our view were top notch. Every morning we would see the sun rising above the horizon across the bay. Every evening, the sunsets were worth every cent.
The continental breakfast had a good mix of muesli, fruits and Yoghurt, traditional Thai breakfast foods, whole grain bread, different styles of eggs and a mini salad with dressings. The young men would always offer us black coffee and milk as soon as we sat down.
The staff were very kind and helpful, even after working incredibly long days. They all deserve a huge round of applause for efforts that were put forth. We asked a huge list of questions throughout our week at the resort and every time a staff member answered us with quick responses, helpful information and a friendly smile. I am impressed.
The daily cleaning crew were convenient for delivering water, toilet paper and fresh towels. This was a pleasure to have as part of the room and not have to seek out the conversation each day with the staff.
The beaches and view point you have access to because of the location are also high quality. The general public will pay 50 baht per person to enjoy the same spots, which is a small reason we booked Relax Freedom Resort. We spent three separate days at Freedom Beach and Taa Toh Beach, renting out snorkels one day and being lucky enough to spot two large turtles eating around 5 o' clock. The staff helped us in choosing a direction to swim. Huge shout out! You have made our trip one we will never forget.
The included breakfast was delicious and different every day, and we really appreciated the free shuttle to and from the pier. As hotel guests, we also had free access to the beautiful beach. Highly recommended!
The sheets and the bed feel luxurious and comfortable. Air con works superbly. The walk to our room in my opinion is completely fine, not long or strenuous at all for me.
I’ve found less jungle wildlife/critters/bugs than other Koh Tao places I have stayed at.
Staff have been so courteous and kind, the ladies at reception are so lovely and the men quickly and efficiently picked us and our bags up from the ferry and took them to our room.
Thank you Freedom Beach Resort! 🙏🏻
And the restaurant.. we never eat in hotel’s restaurants, as we love good and local food, and love discovering new places. But the restaurant has some delicious meals, astonishing. I recommend +++++!
