Arawana Express Chinatown is really a smart choice for value-conscious travelers.
Its rooms are typically far more spacious than those in similarly priced budget chains, which makes a real difference if you’re traveling with large luggage or staying for an extended period. That extra sense of space helps ease the fatigue of being on the road.
Pricing here is refreshingly restrained. If you redirect the money you save on accommodation toward enjoying bird’s nest delicacies or a seafood feast in Chinatown, you’ll quickly realize how wise this trade-off can be.
The hotel sits on the edge of Chinatown, tucked into quieter side streets. Within a two-minute walk, you can be in the heart of the bustling food district or at MRT Wat Mangkon.
While the main roads in Chinatown are lively around the clock, Arawana is cleverly positioned away from the noise. For travelers who value a good night’s sleep but still want to stay in the old quarter, this balance of tranquility and convenience is a definite plus.
The decor may feel a bit dated, and you might notice some wear in the elevator, air conditioning noise, or bathroom fixtures. It’s best not to judge it by the standards of a modern star-rated hotel. Instead, think of it as a generously sized private space with an en-suite bathroom—comfortable, practical, and excellent value for its location.

Good location and easy access to China town

The room has a weird smell but other than that it felt clean. The wi-fi wasn’t the best, had to connect to other floors wi-fi in order for it to work but this also meant it was slow.

The room isn't huge, but it has all the basic amenities. There are power outlets on both bedside tables and even a balcony, which is a nice touch compared to other places. Just a heads up, they don't provide toiletries like toothbrushes or slippers, so remember to bring your own. Also, the bed sheets were a bit yellow. The hotel is located on an inner street, so it's nice and quiet at night. It's also super close to the metro station, just a few minutes' walk away.

This hotel offers good value for money, especially considering its Chinatown location. It was a bit tricky to find, but I eventually managed. It's located to the right when you're heading into Chinatown, down an alleyway next to an old lady selling bananas. Right at the entrance of the alley, there's a shop selling large ceramic items. The hotel room has a small kitchen, which is great for buying groceries and cooking. While the room isn't huge, it has all the essentials. I'd definitely book again if I need a place to stay.
