We had an incredible experience at Blanco Hostel and want to give a special thank you to Arielle and Connor.
My friend and I lost our wallet with all our money before paying for the hostel, and we were extremely stressed. Arielle was incredibly kind, calm, and reassuring. She helped us stay calm, told us that everything would be okay, and even posted a message in the hostel group to help find it.
Thanks to her and the help of her colleague Connor, who safely put the wallet away and returned it to us, we were able to get everything back.
Their kindness, honesty, and professionalism truly meant the world to us. They turned a very stressful situation into an unforgettable experience. Blanco Hostel is lucky to have them. Highly recommended!

⛔️🚫 TERRIBLE customer service - avoid at all costs
Before I get into the main reason for this review, I’ll start with something that concerned me from the moment I arrived: they take your passport as a deposit at check-in. It’s kept in a flimsy filing cabinet at an open desk that could easily be broken into - particularly at night when staff have gone to bed and the area is completely unsecured. When I checked out, they struggled to even locate my passport. That alone should be enough reason to stay elsewhere.
Now for the disgusting part... 🤢
The guest in the bunk above me was repeatedly sick throughout the night. It soaked through his bed, dripped down onto mine, and onto the floor below where the lockers are. I ended up with vomit on me, my bedding, and my belongings. When I went to the front desk, staff gave me clean towels and walked me back to my room, explaining that I couldn’t be moved at that hour. They also mentioned they would be charging the guest responsible. Even with the towels, the guest was sick multiple times again - this time all over the towels too. I was awake for the rest of the night, not able to sleep in a bed covered in someone else’s vomit.
The photo attached was taken after the room had supposedly been cleaned the following day. As you can clearly see, the vomit was still on the bed frame.
When I politely raised this with the manager and asked for compensation for just that one night - out of five - the response was dismissive, rude, and honestly humiliating. Rather than showing any empathy, he chose to say “why should we pay for it” in front of his entire staff. Absolutely zero professionalism.
It’s also worth noting that the night before this happened, the hostel hosted an “all you can drink” event that was two hours long. Regardless of whether the guy who was sick attended, this incident happened on their premises, and they have a basic duty of care to ensure all guests feel safe, comfortable and that hygiene is maintained. If a partial refund wasn’t possible, I would have accepted it, however the way i was treated by the manager made me decide to write an honest review of my experience. Something as simple as moving me to a different bed or offering a gesture of goodwill would have gone a long way. Instead, I was made to feel like an inconvenience for asking. The manager said ‘sorry’ in a sarcastic tone whilst almost laughing at me, and as I walked away I could hear him gossiping about it with his staff. How is this acceptable? This place does NOT deserve your money.
You’ll have a much better experience elsewhere, trust me. Safe travels.

Over past 10 months Ive stayed in many hostels and I can most confidently say this is the most disgusting hostel I've ever booked. I think homeless shelters and even prisons look better than this place fr. I left after couple hours because there was no way I could've slept here 🙃

I’ve spent a awful night here
1) the mattress is sooooo hard, also the pillow. It’s very unconformable, unbelievable for the price you’re paying
2) even with people complaining about it, the room is FREEZING!!!! there’s a ac and fan that make so noisy and the thin blanket they provide isn’t enough. I woke up the whole night shaking bc of how cold this place is. I can’t believe they let it happen. Ah, I asked for an extra blanket, but it was at 10pm ish and they told me they couldn’t give me one at that time.
3) if you have a suitcase, be prepared for a loooot of stairs. It’s not easy and I wouldn’t reccomend it.
Disappointing.
The guy at the reception it’s very kind.

A place with absolutely zero service awareness, run by drugged and drunk teenagers who are only interested in their stay there. The price-performance ratio (high price) was also terrible. The room stinks of mold, the sheets stink, the shower is disgusting, there's not even room for toilet paper or anything else. A truly terrible place.

Pool access, view, comfy beds and AC dorms, plenty of activities for the social folks, balcony in front of dorm to chill at, cafe and food avail

The staff was very welcoming and there were events organized every night.
Around 10pm everyone leave the hostel to party downstairs which makes the place really quiet during the night.
There were two bad points for me :
- no free drinking water but also no drinking water at all during the night.
- they take your passport when you arrive

The place was very nice! The view is amazing! The pool is good and good atmosphere. The only problem is the stairs , and not because they are high but because they can be quite dangerous as the colour they are painted.

Decent hostel in Railey, a bit pricey but cheaper than the hotels in the area. Good views at the top (have to walk up some stairs) and people who work there are nice.
They keep your passport until you check out. Stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm. There are only mixed dorms here. Shower/bathroom isn’t that great and doesn’t look like rooms/bathrooms are cleaned properly but to be expected at cheaper hostels anywhere.
There’s quite a social scene and music was played until late night which can be heard a little from the rooms. Pool area looked nice

Absolutely fantastic hostel that organises different events every single night. I didn't stay here myself, but I found myself drawn here or to one of the bars attached to them every night. The staff are so welcoming, if they see you on your own they almost act as family.
100% recommend, even if it's only to join their events

Would highly recommend this hostel! From when we checked in, the staff were so welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable with sufficient plugs, lights etc. They had well organised events and offered great suggestions for activities to do around the island. The staff were amazing and great fun, especially Liv, Izzy and Rachel!!!
