Les Orangers Garden Villas & Bungalows in Hammamet

We have been visiting this hotel, twice a year since 2019, usually May & September. The fact that we kept returning shows we loved the place, the staff were all lovely and we always looked forward to our visit. When we were there in May 2025 we observed a whole change in atmosphere around the place, there was also a lot of new staff, the food was not nearly as good and most often it was cold, even fresh dishes coming out of kitchen were cold. We raised our concerns with Mohammed - hotel manager - he assured us that he would take action and that things would be better for our visit in September 2025 which was already booked. We returned in September as arranged, not only had things not improved, they had got worse, the food was shocking, apart from the freshly made pizzas that were made out the back, but you cannot live on pizzas for 2 weeks. The room we were given was the worst room we had ever had, despite the manager promising us in May, that he would make sure we were looked after. There was an attitude of take it or leave it from the manager. The atmosphere around the place just got worse and it was not enjoyable. We spoke again to the manager but got very little help or reassurance from him, despite him giving us his phone number and telling us, any problems just whatsapp me. When we returned home, I twice sent Mohammed whatsapp messages, raising our concerns and looking for some reassurances, so we could return in May 2026, the points we raised, were the standard of food, was nowhere near good enough for a 5 star hotel, also several other concerns were put to him, and I have to say they were done in a very polite way, not in an angry way, we wanted things to improve so we could return. The manager, has read both my messages, but has totally ignored me, not even a thank you. All I was doing was asking for some reassurances, but nothing back from Mohammed. The lack of a reply only tells me one thing, he does not care if we return or not, so we will not be returning. This was a very hard decision for us to make, as we truly loved the place, we visited this hotel over 10 times, loved it. A new manager comes in and suddenly the whole atmosphere around the place changes, the food standard drops. Not good.

I asked to be transferred to the main complex, as there is an annex, which made me feel safer. The bedroom furniture is dark wood, scratched in places & outdated. No internet in the bedrooms. Only British films, 2 channels, constantly repeated. It was a bit concerning that the hotel was gated where two guards sat. Also, the beach which is beautiful is also patrolled even in the rain which I'd never experienced before as I've always travelled around Europe. This as a solo traveller did make me feel unsettled especially since I'd never been to Tunisia before. I ventured out once, cabs outside the hotel, cheap, & there are even armed guard shelters on the roundabouts. Apparently for the differing country car number plates that enter the country. Stop & Search. I went in December. No entertainment. No Christmas atmosphere/decorations etc., & mainly Germans who weren't at all social. The food was ok. A bit hit & miss/repetitive. Head for the omelette counter, freshly made. The restaurant staff are extremely nice & work really hard. However, I'd dread to think what it's like in the summer months as the buffet style restaurant turnaround must be manic.
