Great Hospitality
Really enjoyed my stay. The service was excellent and everything was well maintained. A perfect place for a comfortable stay.

Lovely Experience
Beautiful place with a calm environment. The staff was very helpful and the stay was smooth and enjoyable.

The location is very good, and the hotel is clean; however, the staff’s attitude was unpleasant and they were quite unfriendly. Because of this experience, I would not choose this hotel again if I return to Edinburgh. While cleanliness and location are satisfactory, I definitely do not recommend staying here again.

The hotel location is good and the room condition is good overall. Yet, my room, located on the first floor, is a bit dark. The windows couldn’t be open. So  the room was hot and stuffy all the time.

Rooms in the UK are generally on the smaller side, but this one was clean and tidy, with heating and an electric kettle. It's located right near the University of Edinburgh, and it's about a 20-minute walk to the train station. The hotel breakfast was good; you have to order hot items separately. What really stood out to me was the marmite among the various jams – definitely a unique flavor!

Our room faced the street and was on a low floor, so it was very noisy. I felt like we were given this room because we booked through Ctrip, which was a shame considering the £2000 per night price tag wasn't cheap. Like all hotels I've stayed at in the UK, this one didn't provide complimentary water or slippers. They only offered shower gel (which served as shampoo, body wash, and hand soap). Some places let you request toothbrushes from the front desk. However, they all provide a kettle, hairdryer, fan, iron, and ironing board. Air conditioning or ventilation systems are hit or miss; windows either open a tiny crack or not at all. This particular hotel allowed us to open the window a bit for some air. Hotel prices in Edinburgh at this time of year are astronomical, even more expensive than London! The location was decent though, with many attractions within walking distance.

Good service and nice, calm location.

The location was a bit hard to find, but overall it was decent. You also had to ring the doorbell every time you entered. The price was quite reasonable, making it an overall budget-friendly hotel. The service issues were also within expectations.

Really good location, within walking distance to most sights. Staff was friendly and helpful and room was clean and comfortable. Very cute room in a cool building, would definitely recommend and stay again.

Reception very good, staff is good, ideal location. However, there was a bit noises outside every time out from door and inside the hotel and smell in the toilet

A wonderful nordic-inflected warehouse restaurant. Fantastic, modern but honest locally sourced food. Cracking wine list.

Had a great dinner at the Timberyard. The rooms have a lot of character.
We had the 4-course menu, and all courses were great. Especially the cod was amazing, and serving a partridge's leg with talons still attached is really impressive!
If you get the chance, ask to go upstairs and see their wine "cellar".
At £45 for a menu, it is very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend going there!

Inventive if somewhat over complicated menu served in very cool surroundings, but I couldn't quite help feel that the vibe was a little more sterile than it needed to be.

Our best restaurant experience in Edinburgh so far. Everything was exceptional, food, service, restaurant. I may have preferred more wine than beers or ciders on the taster drinks but that's only a matter of personal preference I suppose. Great place, will go back.

Bad costumer service. The chinese girl is very angry and have no training to care to costumers.

There was a homeless man inside this place abusing solvents (some sort of flammable gas) while me and my mates were trying to eat. The food was okay but it's awful that they didn't do anything about the homeless man

A classic sandwich bar. Fresh ingredients and quite taste sandwiches

Salad items aren't as good as other Subways and the meal deal costs more than others as well for some reason.

Food is very good. So was the service. It was a great surprise to see the owner / manager going round himself explaining each and every dish. Such a rarity these days.

I mean, the waitstaff was nice but the food was not good at all. The bread for the bruschetta was like soggy toast. The calamari was like rubber (although the waiter made a big deal to tell me it was fresh cut that morning and made absolutely no apologies - even loudly asking other customers...who were clearly family, to back him up that they were tasty. As if maybe it was my teeths fault that they had encountered what seemed to be pure plastic on my plate.) He insisted it was fresh (definitely frozen) but calamari should not look, taste, or feel like that - for £8 we ate approximately 3 "rings" because we just couldn't stomach the rest.

The fish as a main dish was cooked properly but the presentation left a lot to be desired, and it was just too dry (no sauce or anything, which it desperately needed) for a salmon dish. It reminded me of something I used to cook for myself during uni - salmon and fried potatoes just dropped on a plate. For the price, I expected more. And I know it's a touristy place so we should have known better...but we were starving and needed to eat at the end of the day -- so I feel the fact that I still felt it was terrible says a lot. Normally when you're that hungry, stuff like I mentioned doesn't stand out...but this place seems to need a wake up call.

I feel bad as the staff seems very nice, but I guess it's the manager who doesn't seem to get that maybe not everything is perfect.

Wonderful Italian restaurant close to Grassmarket
During our stay at Edinburgh, we went two times to Il Castello. The first time we had classical pasta and pizza dishes which were very good and reasonable priced. The second time we went for a three-course dinner and had seafood starters, grilled fish and seafood pasta as main and typical Italian deserts. All dishes were tasting wonderful. The service is very friendly and came with good recommendations. The kitchen is partly open so that you can watch while your food is prepared.
Il Castello is located very close to Grassmarket and Victoria Street, but it is by far less crowded and it seems that most customers come from the neighborhood. If you are looking for some really good food in a relaxed environment and close to Edinburgh Castle, I recommend the Il Castello.
