Rooms to small tv only 10 channels . Management with bad attitude. Do yourself a favor and stay away . The neighbors are nosy . this place feels more like a jail then a Warm place to live . You are better off staying at the homeless shelter then staying here.

Nice small place near Anchorage. It's on eagle Street about 10 minutes from the airport. Fairly priced hostel we paid about 30 when we went. It was fairly clean but you get what you pay for. Kind of in a ghetto part of Anchorage though.

A horrible, traumatic experience. Just brutal. I Stayed here as a last resort, having no other choices. The very first day I was greeted by a young guy from Africa who offered to help me carry my luggage. Then a little black lady with fried hair (named "Lacey", ironically) came up to him and aggressively told him NOT to help me, and to "just let her carry it on her own." This is my FIRST impression, she'd known nothing about me at that time, but throughout my stay she singled me out and verbally abused me, insulting and swearing to me in my face. I was nothing but polite and paid my rent on time. I minded my own business, but for whatever reason, Lacey made it a point to get into mine. When I brought my guy friend to visit she yelled at me, "NO boys are allowed" in a room that I had paid for. Ridiculous. I complained to the front desk and was told that she is only a resident, not a manager, and had no authority to say such things. I came to realize, however, that she made it her business to "watch" the place. The front desk not only turned a blind eye to this but encouraged her. They gave me these key cards to access the building, which were dysfunctional and when they didnt work and i had to buzz Lacey to let me in each night, they blamed it on ME. And when I complained aabout it, she got in my face, screaming "QUIT PLAYING GAMES WITH ME"! Sheer insanity. After a couple weeks of this, I made plans to move in with a friend as soon as I could, but continued paying rent. One day, I came home from work to find four guys sleeping in my room and all of my things packed in a corner...no warning, nothing. I ran from that Hell Hole as fast as I could. It's too bad because the building has the potential to be really cool, with writing and painting covering the walls from people all over the world but the people who are "managing" it are cruel and indifferent. This place needs to be shut down, for the good of humanity. They are bullies.

“Don't be bamboozled by the so-called $154 per night 'PRIVATE SUITES'.

You will probably read mixed reviews for this place. That's because they're falsely referring to two TOTALLY DIFFERENT ESTABLISHMENTS (neither located at 409 Eagle Street - however each is only 50-100 yards away from the main office).

The Backpacker Hostel accommodation (513 E 4th Ave), which for $30 a night, most people have given okay ratings for, and consider it value-for-money. However, alongside this they also falsely advertise more upmarket, 'DELUXE PRIVATE' accommodation @ $154 per night mixed which end up getting mixed in with the favorable hostel reviews (at a totally different location - 433 E 4th Ave). When choosing, I assumed that if I was paying FIVE TIMES that of the hostel dorm rooms, then these more pricey rooms would be similar to a 3-star-hotel. However, I would not let a dog live in this so-called ‘luxury’ accommodation.

I arrived after midnight and was made to change rooms multiple times because each was filthy and reeked of smoke.

The room was already unlocked when I arrived. That’s because the door had previously been kicked in and the lock was broken. The first thing I saw upon turning on the kitchen light was a can of BED BUG SPRAY on the bench. It was putrid dirty. I am not talking about a room that had not been cleaned after the last people moved out - I am talking about a room that had not been cleaned in over a year. (see disgusting photos attached).

The floors throughout were covered in footprints and dried mud, with shells of cockroach bodies, dustballs and hair - lots of pubic hair everywhere! The bathroom toilet was yuck, the bathtub and shower curtain was full of mould and there was a ton of pubic hair everywhere!

For a 'deluxe private suite' I also had to supply my own towel, soap and shampoo!

It was 3am by this time and I had been in transit for 33 hours. I just wanted to sleep. So I left my luggage in the room and walked back to reception. I was told that there were no more rooms available and that I would need to speak to the manager in the morning. I returned to the room and tried to make the best of a bad night.

The bed was a metal frame, with a mattress that looked like it had come out of a dumpster. It was stained and all the center springs were broken so that they was a depression of 12 inches in the middle so that it touched the floor when you laid on it. There was a piece of broken wood jutting out the side, which, when I sat on the edge, ripped a hole in my trousers. They did however, supply one sheet and one thin blanket (fortunately, it was summer). I slept on my side on the very edge of the mattress (I bought an inflatable mattress the next day for the rest of my stay).

In the morning I went to reception and was told by the front desk staff that there were no more rooms and that I was welcome to leave, but that I would not be refunded the $1,100 I had been charged in advance. Resigned to the fact that I was being forced to stay here for the next week, I asked what time housekeeping would be in, and was told, “This is not a hotel. We do not have daily housekeeping. They will come in after you vacate”. To which I responded, “But surely, they should have come in after the last people vacated to ensure the room was clean for when I moved in?”. I was given a blank stare. So basically I was stuck with this filthy room.

The 'deluxe private' room are so far away from the main building, that the free wifi signal was non-existent there, so rather than stay in my room, for most of my stay I had to sit in the reception of the main office waiting area (which was like Grand Central station) if I wanted to access the internet.

The 'deluxe private annex' building is however, quiet and isolated in comparison to the 'hostel annex' located two blocks away, but it does have a lot of long-term, down-and-out, suspicious-looking residents who hang around outside in the carpark at all hours of the night, which was pretty scary being alone in a room with a broken door lock.
