A unique and slightly quirky hotel in Tashkent where you can be in a lovely cool park with fresh air while still being close to the city center. Clean and friendly, it is an unusual round concrete building located next to a river (I think it is the Anhor). The hotel is in a park that since Soviet times has been an Expo center to display new technologies and achievements in buildings located along the paths: there was an exhibition of Uzbek plumbing fixtures in one building we passed, another promised an upcoming car show. The hotel itself has rooms located in the outer circles on three floors, while the center is an open expo space. Each room has a window to the outside. My son and I had a very clean and spacious double with two twin beds and nice cotton sheets. There was a heater/cooler that we did not need to use since the thick concrete walls kept it cool (it was June), and you could open the window to the fresh air (very important for me in any hotel!).
The desk staff is young and friendly (they speak Uzbek, Russian, English). A modest but real food breakfast is provided (porridge, eggs, bread, fruit and vegetables, etc.) with tea and coffee. The location is wonderful - it is really lovely to walk through the park, there are shady wooded paths, river, bridges, ducks, flowers... It is near a TV tower that glows golden at night, and there are restaurants, banks, grocery etc. on the nearby streets - the hotel does not have a restaurant for lunch and dinner, but the desk will order takeout to be delivered for you (cash only!). It's a 10-20 minute taxi ride to the city center (depending on traffic), and there is a metro station in easy walking distance.
So what are the quirks?
1. It can be hard to find: When my son and I first arrived, we took a taxi to the address rather than to the hotel itself and got let off at the park entrance. We ended up wandering around the park dragging our suitcase until we found it tucked in a side road: So do map to the Expo Hotel itself. There are two entrances to the park; both have gates, but you can walk freely in and out anytime - and if you come by taxi, just tell the driver that you are going to the hotel and they will get you through. Later at night they do close the gate, but there is a guard there who will let you through (knock if you need to) - just say “Hotel!” ( Uzbek “mehmonxona,” Russian “gostinitsa”).
2. Cash only! They do not take credit cards, and there is no atm in the lobby. Tashkent hotels like you to pay up front when you check in, so make sure you have enough cash with you. There are atms on close by streets.
3. Stairs only - there is a circular staircase that winds up the outer circle, no elevator. Prepare to carry your suitcase up 1-3 flights of stairs.
4. Varying internet - every floor has internet, and it works fine in some rooms, but in our room on the third floor it was not strong enough. The best internet is in the lobby, and there are plenty of chairs and tables if you need to sit with a laptop there.
5. Breakfast opens at 8am. If you are (like me) a person who gets up early and needs coffee at 6am, ask for an electric kettle so you can make your own in your room.
That said, if you are fine with these aspects, it is a unique and pleasant place to stay in Tashkent! We stayed for a week, and I would definitely choose it again above other more pretentious downtown hotels.

Honestly, I have visited to this hotel and I realized that this hotel is the best one in the city, cause of prices are really cheaper than the other hotels. However, service and reception also quite good, kind and hospitable. Thanks for all of them !!!
