Hotel Mangalemi in Berat

I was with friends at this hotel for two nights earlier this week in March 2026, as part of our short first visit to Albania. We found the country to be full of surpises, pleasant ones, and we were particularly struck by the photogenic city of Berat and by Hotel Mangalemi, where we were lodged. Berat proved wonderful and so was this very well located historic hotel. Rooms and facilities were excellent and everything was clean and functional. Staff were friendly and very helpful and provided their services efficiently. The hotel cats too were friendly. Breakfast was very good and satisfying, so nothing to complain there either. We were also allowed to park our car by the side of the hotel. We left with good memories. Should I ever visit lovely Berat again, I would wish to stay in this Hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mangalemi. Everything was perfect — the location in the heart of Berat, the beautiful views, the food, and the rooms. The breakfast was excellent and the service was incredible. A special thank you to Gori, who served breakfast, helped us with our suitcases, and did everything he could to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Truly a lovely experience and a place we would happily return to.

the beds were super king sized and very comfortable,

This hotel was a delight from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. A welcome drink of Raki before being shown to my room which had a balcony overlooking the hills. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - and the breakfast was delicious - especially the tomato/cottage cheese/pepper recipe!! 7/11 across the road for snacks as well as several gift shops. Klisman especially was very helpful - and as for the resident cat family with kittens, so cute. Would love to come back one day!!

You cannot review Eastern European hotels with the same eye used on Western hotels. They are different. The staff was very accommodating; the owner was onsite. It is an older eclectic hotel with something to see around every corner. It has a medieval / Arabic feel to it. There is a market across the street from the hotel. Lots of impressive stonework and impressive wood in the rooms. I enjoyed my stay here and would return. There was a mini-refrig in the room but no coffee maker, the staff did produce an iron and ironing board when I asked for one. The room had good AC by western standards. There is a mosque close-by, and you will hear the haunting Muslim call-to-prayer if you pay attention.

We booked Hotel Mangalemi because of its great ratings and wonderful comments from other travelers — and it truly lived up to our expectations!

Our only regret is that one day wasn’t enough to fully enjoy the stay. We arrived late and had to leave the next day, but even in that short time, we could already see why this hotel is so loved.

The location is excellent, just a short walk from the castle and the beautiful “City of a Thousand Windows.” The atmosphere feels authentic and peaceful, perfectly blending with Berat’s old-town charm.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise — a buffet with plenty of delicious choices, fresh and satisfying. Overall, I would definitely rate this hotel highly for its perfect location, great breakfast, and the charm that makes you want to stay longer.

Mangalemi Hotel is an absolute must for all that visit Berat. The staff are very genuine and warm. The hotel has so much character and charm. The rooms are beautifully detailed, unique and very clean. We stayed 2 nights and booked 2 rooms for ourselves and 2 teenage sons. We wished we could have stayed longer. The location is perfect- everything you need just outside the door. The buffet breakfast was excellent as well.

This hotel is in a central location, very friendly staff and a very authentic Ottaman house. The breakfast is really good and served in the rooftop terrace, which is a great view of the city. There is many cool places to hangout in this hotel to relax besides the rooms. I only stayed 1 night here but wish I could have stayed longer.

Extremely well situed hotel to discover Berat. We to enjoyed a spacious and extremely clean room with a balcony overlooking a pittoresque and quiet courtyard. The management arranged for us transport from Berat to Tirana with efficience and amicability. It felt we were in good hands.

A true example of Albanian hospitality! The hotel staff were friendly, welcoming and worked hard to take care of every need. The bellman sprinted up the stone steps with a bag in each hand and made sure to show us all the features of the room, while the manager drove our bigger bag up on a scooter, and still had time to park our car in their lot.

The room was beautifully appointed with traditional woodwork, tasteful decor and handmade lace window coverings. The mattress and pillows were very comfortable especially compared to the hard bed and deflated pillows we’d experienced at the previous hotel in Tirana. The shower had excellent water pressure, and the towels were delightfully fluffy. Our room also had some of the best AC we’ve experienced in Europe, which was greatly appreciated given the warm temperatures.

The hotel staff were just as eager to help at checkout. While we walked to grab a to-go coffee in town, they retrieved our bags, moved our car to the front of the hotel and put the bags in the back. We really appreciated their generous service to make everything so easy.
