Crowne Plaza Canberra, an IHG Hotel in Canberra
✅ Buffet breakfast praised for variety and quality, described as a major highlight with fresh options and a chef for made-to-order eggs. ✅ Cleanliness rated very high, with rooms and common areas noted as well maintained. ✅ Staff service repeatedly highlighted as friendly, professional, and accommodating, with examples of helpful reception staff and attentive breakfast team. ✅ Free bike rentals and fitness facilities including a gym and sauna add to guest convenience. ✅ Good location close to city centre, convention centre, and entertainment venues. ❌ Several reviews mentioned dated bathroom facilities, with fixed showerheads over bathtubs and need for renovation. ❌ Outdoor pool was reported as small, cold, and sometimes unclean, disappointing for families with children. ❌ Some guests experienced issues with billing transparency and security holds causing delayed refunds. ❌ Parking can be challenging for taller vehicles, with access requiring coordination with front desk staff, which was slow during busy periods. ❌ Certain rooms near the main atrium may suffer from noise, and some rooms felt small compared to international standards.

Reviews
But, I am very disappointed with the billing experience. Everything was paid at checkout, But two days after I checkout, an additional amount was deducted from my bank account without my consent. When I contacted the hotel, I was told it was for Security hold. I have had to call and email again and again which is very frustrating. It has now been two weeks, and I still have not received my money back.
What I feel is the billing process should be transparent, and all guests must be informed before any amount is deducted from their account whether it is for security purpose or any other. Not happy at all.
However, the interiors and the carpark do feel a bit dated and would benefit from a refresh.
The location is slightly removed from the main shopping and dining precincts—be prepared for a 10-minute walk if you’re looking for a meal outside the hotel.
However, the breakfast buffet is a major highlight with an impressive variety of options. A reliable choice, provided you don't mind a short stroll for dinner."
However, because the front desk was very busy, my call was automatically transferred to the overseas service team. When I stopped my car at the entrance of the parking lot and called them to gain access, I was asked questions for five minutes to verify that I was a customer staying at the hotel. There were three children and an elderly person in the car. If I had not interrupted them, my car would have been blocked at the parking entrance for even longer.
To make matters worse, because my car was blocking the entrance, drivers behind me kept honking their horns. I believe the hotel needs to assign more staff to the front desk during peak times and review their processes to make the use of the outdoor parking lot smoother for guests.
Because of this very unpleasant experience, as an IHG member, I will not choose this hotel again in the future.
The reception staff were friendly, polite, and professional, with smooth and efficient check-in and check-out. Breakfast was acceptable but had limited variety (see video).
The location is a plus, right in the city and next to Holey Moley and the entertainment arcade, making it convenient for families with kids. Overall, a clean and well-located hotel, though showing its age in some areas.
