Reviews
There is also a bar that is open from 7 to 23. The cocktails there can be good, but it depends on who is behind the counter to serve you. I asked for something twice, and one time is was excellent and the other time it tasted like shit. Also, the quality of the sodas is terrible, so I wouldn't recommend cocktails with soda, since they have a good variation of alcohol.
There is a also a snack bar open from 10 to 17, there you can eat something light between meals, and also grab a beer or a glass of wine. The good thing about this one is that there is a ice cream buffet, and it's just extraordinary. ( I haven't mentioned earlier, but the desserts at the meals are awful and you're better of going to the snack bar )
There are also swimming pools. Two outside, one for adults ( 1,6 m ) and one for kids ( I don't remember but it's low), and another one indoors ( 1,2 ). The pools are open from 7 to 18.
The hotel is quite close to the beach, yet you have to ask at the reception for a special bracelet with a cip that opens a gate for a shortcut to the beach. That door closes between 1 a.m to 6 a.m. ( that means that you can't open it with the bracelet ).
About the rooms, they're good, but one major disappointment. There are no smart tv's. Just regular ones with a mix of bulgarian and romanian channels. This was a turnoff since I quite couldn't use it sincer I wasn't able to watch anything.
About the price, I got a room for two adults in pre season for 6 nights at the price of 600 euros. So it's quite like a 100 euro per night which is good, but this is in pre season, and I booked this a few months prior to my vacation.
Another thing worth mentioning, is that a lot of the staff doesn't understand english. You have to keep any conversation simple and to the subject. ( I had a quite funny interaction, I asked at the bar for a glass of coke and he didn't know what I needed until I told him cola . )
Overall a good experience, not the best, but good.
There are three outdoor pools (one for kids) and a heated indoor pool, which was a lifesaver at +30°C when the outdoor pools were still a chilly +22°C in early June. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for everyone. While the hotel doesn’t have its own beach, the public beach is just a 5-minute walk away, with the option to rent sunbeds and umbrellas if needed.
The animation team did a great job keeping things lively with activities, which added a fun vibe to the stay. The food at the buffet restaurant was varied and satisfying, with options for meat, fish, and vegetables. The bar drinks were standard but decent, and the ice cream available from 12–5 PM was a delightful touch that everyone enjoyed.
During our stay, the majority of guests were 50+, so I’d say this hotel is better suited for families or older couples rather than younger traveller looking for a lively, youthful vibe. Overall, our time at Slavey Hotel was thoroughly enjoyable, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing, well-rounded 4-star experience in Golden Sands.
But that doesn’t mean we weren’t unhappy with some things. So let’s start with the bad.
THE BAD:
-no coffee in the room, and coffee isn’t served until 7:30 in the restaurant and 8 at the bars. Some people enjoy coffee upon opening their eyes with a sit on the balcony.
-soda isn’t served anywhere until 10am. It’s literally right in front of you at the bar, why are we limiting times on soda?
-parking is insane, not free, and the hotel doesn’t offer any type of shuttle like other all-inclusives in the area do.
-the room was “cleaned” once during our three night stay. And by cleaned I mean the trash emptied and the blankets folded and that’s it. Same towels in the bathroom, and there were still the same grimy fingerprints all over the bathroom door that we saw upon check in.
-the pools close too early.
-the pool chairs under the tree by the middle pool are absolutely filthy. Complete with bird poop if you’re into that.
The GOOD:
-the shortcut bracelets are a great addition. Gives access to the back gate past the pools to get to the street that takes you down to the beach.
-the food had a nice variety, and was different every day.
-pool and lobby bars are easily accessible and flexible with non-alcoholic drinks
-the pools themselves seemed clean
-Terrace and poolside seating was plentiful and the chairs on the upper deck by the lobby bar were comfortable to sit and hang out on.
-the bed was comfortable and the water pressure was good.
Bottom line:
We will most likely explore other places in the area before staying here again, but it was enjoyable at least and accommodated 9 of us well.
