Sofu Hotel in Beijing

We stayed at Sofu hotel for 7 days from 6/8-6/15/2018. The overall experience was good. However, the last night my mom found out her money was missing (1500RMB). Because she thought it’s a nice and safe hotel, instead of using safe, she wrapped all her cash with a piece of paper and left under her pillow for more than 24hours. The last night she wanted to buy toys for her grandson, she opened paper wrapping, found out all 15 of the 100RMB bills are missing, only small bills and coins left inside. Since this incident happened at the hotel, we tried to contact the owner, but was told owner was not available. Two of the manager responded to it, but neither of them could provide any effective solution. At the end, we choose to report to the local police. The police showed up around 10:30pm, then took us to the police station for further investigation, we came back to hotel almost 3am in the morning. I left hotel 5am to catch flight, without any sleep. When I requested the taxi to the airport, the front desk staff became very cold and reluctant because of the incident. Our stay at Sofu hotel in Beijing didn’t end happily. I know if my mom used the safe the whole mess won’t happen, I also wonder if this will happen if we choose another hotel to stay? My mom doesn’t have habit to use hotel safe, she travels many times a year, stayed in various hotels, but never had money missing at any hotel. What I got to know at the police station is the house keeping lady on duty that day is brand new, she hasn’t receive any pay yet. I am not saying she did it, just wonder how does Sofu hotel check their employee’s background? Hopefully similar incident won’t happen to any other customer in the future.
