Remisens Hotel Epidaurus in Cavtat

So we arrived at 12 and waited till 3 to get a room, however, when checked in, the phone didn’t work. Phone, remote control, door handles, light switches all really dirty. I walked down to reception and asked for phone to work - we stayed there (room 433) 3 nights… no one came to fix it. The cleaner came up but literally used a dirty cloth to clean the remote, remained filthy… overall if you’re looking for a tiny shower (just like Ibis) then this is suitable. It’s not really a 3 star. But it is in good location from airport (10 mins drive) and a 30 mins drive Into old town. Best to rent a car, roads are great. Otherwise, staff are polite, service is good.

The staff were reluctantly friendly. The room was surface clean. There are no full double beds, as told all beds are two singles put together. Bathroom was tiny, deep clean needed really, corners, doors, skirting etc. sofa had stains. Breakfast was good. Good choices, fresh foods. Best thing power shower, balcony view, but no hangers given. Broken drawer, broken hooks to keep doors open on balcony. Just lack of maintenance really. Free tea and coffee all day with B&B. Best thing, power shower, location, breakfast, diversity of people, some staff at bar were lovely, reception bit off. Not really noisy, so handy to Cavtat which is lovely, locals friendly, boat ride to Dubrovnik lovely, water clean and lovely. Went in October and it rained and cold ish 4 days out of 7. Would definitely come back to Cavtat but not this hotel. It fitted a 3 star definitely.

Location is great, a short 10-15 minute walk from the pretty fishing village. The hotel lacked a central point outside. The pool was very small. Sunbeds squeezed into every inch of this place. Most of these do not have an outlook or clear view of either the stunning sea view or dodgy looking pool. Tourists getting up early to put towels on beds. Catering staff were friendly, kind but looked exhausted. Reception staff were welcoming but lengthy queues quickly form around check in and check out times. The overall hotel looked run down compared to its more recently built sister next door.

In terms of food, if you prefer quantity over quality this is the hotel for you. For example, the cod pieces were so dried up you had to cut it with pressure. The meat was pretty fatty. Desserts appeared to be a big hit with the kids. The location of the outside restaurant was a winner to watch the sunsets.

This is a family hotel first and foremost.
