Aparthotel Miramare

Poor communication at check-in. Long queue late at night. Night staff didn’t speak English. Sofa bed wasn’t made for the kids — no pillows or sheets. The porter, who didn’t speak English, refused to give out bedding and just said “self-service.” A bad start. Next day, the housekeeping manager fixed everything perfectly. Day staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was decent for a tourist hotel. Fantastic location – the best part. Beds were OK. Seagulls were bathing in the pool, which felt unhygienic. Overall, a good/OK stay but with some issues. Might consider booking again, but not really worth €280/night.

Our stay in Makarska was great, the town has plenty going on, in the evening there are lots of restaurants to chose from, catering for all tastes and budgets. There was a live band in the square by the church each night and good buzz around the harbour. If you want to escape the crowds, take a short drive axi to the next resort Tucepi, where life is a lot quieter and more laid back. We had a really nice stay at Hotel Miramare, the room was really spacious. Our’s had a Park View which was really nice, listening to the Cicadas which I always find relaxing. The patio and outdoor pool are really nice although sun loungers were quickly taken up in the morning. Sitting having breakfast or just chilling on the loungers, with the harbour as a backdrop is stunning. The next part needs chronicling, but please note it didn’t overshadow the positives and ruin our stay. Unfortunately the start to our stay didn’t go so smooth, hence the low score. When we arrived, the room had the shutters closed and air conditioning on low. The rooms are simply furnished, which is fine, but it felt dark and musty. When I lay on the bed and looked up there was a dirty sock over the fire alarm, the same in the lounge. I can only presume the last guest smoked in the room. I reported it to reception and the poor receptionist was horrified and they rectified it immediately and apologised. Once we opened the windows to air the room, it changed the atmosphere and feeling, shame they didn’t lift the shutters before we arrived or look up when preparing. It is supposed to be 4 star after all. The next night at about 11:30, a tattooed drunk bloke opened the door with a key card and proceeded to walk in, when I shouted “Hello”, he quickly turned around and left…. This obviously left us a bit shaken. I called reception and they said they knew about it, he’d lost his keycard and gave them the wrong number, you’d think they would cross check the name before issuing a replacement card!!!He could have been anyone. The rest of our stay in the hotel was trouble free. As I say, overall we had a lovely stay and would probably stay again if we returned to Makarska. The location is perfect and having parking under the hotel is a real benefit, also its a very short walk to the beach. So you can pop round for a quick dip if you fancy.
