The worst hotel on earth. After receiving the room, the owner took a photo of our ID and came back with a paper. We asked her what it is and she yelled at us "Unterschreiben" meaning "sign" in German. She said she needed it to show the police. We understood what she meant but she kept pushing us to sign without letting us read the paper. My wife refused to sign because of the bad attitude from the owner and asked her why she took a photo of our ID at the beginning. She was then very angry and kept yelling at us like "this is for the police. What is your problem? Do you have problem with the police so you are afraid of signing it?..." Her daughter then appeared and added insults to injury. She said this is done all the same over the world (surely she does not travel that much) and we should be some kind criminals because we are afraid of signing that paper. We then refused to stay and move to another hotel.
I do not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel. Beside the horrible attitude, the hotel is located on a hill far away from center. There is only one toilet which is shared by 4 rooms. The furniture is very old and smelly. They decorate the stairs with some creepy puppets which made us scary.

Affordable accommodation near the city center. Located above the picturesque town in a residential area, about 1 km (15-minute walk) to the city center. Free street parking is available in the residential area. Note: Parking in the city center itself is paid.
The landlady was friendly and easy to deal with.
On our floor, there were three double rooms, two with en-suite bathrooms, and one shared bathroom. There was also a kitchenette with a coffee maker, kettle, dishwasher, and refrigerator with a freezer compartment. Tea, coffee, and milk were provided. A terrace was also available for all three double rooms.
The rooms were functional: simple furniture, a double bed, a TV, and occasionally unreliable Wi-Fi.
The included breakfast was quite basic but generally adequate. We supplemented it with our own produce: eggs, tomatoes, onions, soft cheese, juice, etc.
Considering the price, Pension Rak is a good and affordable option for a stay in Karlovy Vary.
Those seeking more comfort should consider the numerous hotels in the city center, located in the valley. However, these are also considerably more expensive.

Horrible attitude from the owner. Hotel is located far away from the center, furnitures are old and smelly.

Great pension, run by a lovely lady.

Can recommend and would stay there again. Very friendly and helpful lady owner. Room was spacious and clean. Bathroom always freezing, although the heating was on (can't explain why). Breakfast was made and delivered to the room, continental Czech and good. We could make use of the small kitchenette with cooker and kettle, which was handy. It's only a short distance walk (about 10 minutes) from the main city centre attractions. Safe car parking is available in the back yard.

Quiet, clean accommodation near the city center. As a bonus, very nice and helpful lady owner. I don't sleep anywhere else in Karlovy Vary.
