Scandic Kaisaniemi in Helsinki

My experience is mixed and unfortunately bad things stand out. The room is tidy, the personnel is friendly (especially the cleaners), yet my bathroom was a tiny space with the shower zone not separated from the rest (inadequate drain design and short curtain not reaching the floor) which results in a flood every time I spend 5 mins in the shower. Water spills over the bathroom threshold and ends up in the room. The towel hanger is over the toilet and hangs loose, so the towel keeps falling right into the toilet. I asked the reception staff to solve it or at least replace the towel, they promised to do it immediately and never did. I am not used to premium hotels and easily put up with economy level constraints but this is beyond anything I have seen in this price range in Helsinki or anywhere at large.

Location and breakfast are great, as is the general service including the reception and cleaning.

However the room is worst I’ve been in in Scandic hotels. There was no refrigerator nor kettle and no table space near the door to lay small things to. No ceiling lamps, there was floor lamp and bed lamps. The bathroom had hand soap far from hand basin and conditioner opposite side from shower. The water spread almost to the bathroom door when showering and was tedious to dry. One of the bathroom embedded ceiling lamps was hanging from the ceiling by the power line. The TV was small for the space (max 30”) and had power cords spread behind it which looked aesthetically unpleasant. There was also empty space in the room which felt like it could have had just something there too.

Also the walls seemed to pass the noise from hallway and next rooms, so I suggest ear plugs when sleeping.
