Hôtel Les Bords De Mer in Marseille

I agree with a lot of the other reviews that say this hotel isn’t really worth the price. The view is indeed incredible, keep in mind that is what you’re paying for. The rooms are just ok and very small. It says on this site that they’re soundproofed, that’s not true. You can hear noise from outside and both nights I stayed there I could hear chairs scraping from like 1-2 am (I don’t know whether it was cleaning staff or what?) The last night the heat was on in my room despite it being a hot day. I asked the front desk why it was on and apparently someone else on my floor had requested heat and they have to switch the system over for the entire floor. They turned it off but it was uncomfortably hot the rest of the night. I don’t like it too cold either but it was a warm day and seemed a little ridiculous to blast the heat and assume everyone would be ok with it. I voiced these concerns upon checkout and the front desk staff clearly could not have cared less. Lovely view but the rest of the experience unfortunately did not measure up.

We came here on our honeymoon - Marseille is great, but this hotel was not. What really irritated us was that the hotel had assured us that the room we had booked - one of the more expensive ones called 'Executive Bord de Mer' - was 20 m2 all up. I had an email exchange several months before with the receptionist who assured me that 20 m2 was indeed the size of the room. Well we got there and the room was tiny. The hotel seemed to want to overcompensate for this by offering various freebies upon arrival - a bottle of rose, a Sezane tote bag, free fizzy drinks in the mini bar. However the floor space in the room was so minute you couldn't even open a suitcase. You had to squeeze past the bed to get to the balcony. I asked the hotel staff about it and at first they claimed that the room was 'definitely' 20 m2, it was just 'an unusual shape'... after a few minutes conversation they suddenly said the 20m2 actually included the bathroom. I then measured the room and the bathroom with the iphone tape measure app which is pretty accurate. Turns out the bedroom itself was under 8m2. Even including the bathroom, the whole space was around 13 m2. So the 20m2 claim that we were invited to believe, was simply "an alternative truth" to draw customers in. After I'd complained, the hotel mysteriously waived the fee for the hotel breakfast. While that was nice, it would have been better if they'd simply been honest from the start and admitted that the room is tiny - despite it being the "executive room". yes the balcony is big but the hotel management are not being honest about the size of the room. it was the dishonesty that we found really upsetting - and off-putting. 965 euros for two nights felt like we were being ripped off. Next time we'll be staying at Hotel la Residence du Vieux Port where the rooms are actually the size they're advertised as.
