My only struggle was showing up later than expected and not being able to contact the emergency number due to my phone, but I got it figured out and everyone was kind and approachable. I stayed in a single room, which worked for me, but I would definitely look at the larger rooms if I was with my wife and/or family.

I needed a last minute hotel and this was available. The location for this hotel was great, everything else was at best mediocre. The front desk is not open even in the afternoons and getting the keys for our rooms was a bit of a production. One of our rooms had a fire alarm on the door. Thank fully we figured out how to turn it off. I was on the first floor and the windows opened right to the street - with no AC I needed to open it or suffer an 80F room. Shower was so small it was hard to even turn around in it. Breakfast was not edible; coffee was about equivalent to warm gas station quality.

It was a real delight staying here. Not only was the hotel installations very beautiful and the rooms big, but the personal was also extremely kind and helpful, giving many delicious options for the breakfast, and kindly looking after anything they could to make the stay more pleasant. It is right in the Altstadt, close to everything, but its at the same time peaceful. I will definitely come back next time I visit Heidelberg.

This is a throwback to a simpler time: a family-owned hotel with perfectly comfortable but simply appointed rooms and gracious service from the proprietors. The breakfast in particular was wonderful: not your usual buffet, but instead everything brought to your table, including, of course, delicious breakfast rolls, but also eggs cooked to order, homemade jelly, a nice spread of cheese and cold cuts, fresh orange
juice, and a pot of coffee or tea. The hotel is an easy 20-minute walk or short taxi or bus ride from the train station and is right in the edge of the incredibly scenic old city. I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Heidelberg.

The rooms have no way to be locked from the inside and you will only get one key for the room. Meaning there is no way a person can stay in the room and (safely - think of a fire or other emergency) lock the door while the other person is out with the key. This seems like a small thing but it is not and made me give the location one start only.

We were very pleased by our stay at the Altstaft. It is a small boutique hotel that isn’t fancy but it is in great condition, super clean and in a great location near Bismarckplatz, transportation and the Main Street for shopping and dining. Walkable in 15 minutes to the funicular to get to Schloss Heidelberg. Would go back for sure.

I loved my stay here! I have been in various hotels in town before, but this is absolutely the best. I will happily come back. Big room, which is super clean, the breakfast is the tastiest I ever had in a hotel: fresh fruit salad, delicious homemade jams, omelette, various tasty breads and rolls, cheeses and more. The building has a beautiful architecture from the 19th century, but it has an elevator too. The staff is extremely kind and make you feel at home. Public transit is just a few steps away, so is the old town. Behind the hotel there is a garden, and then the forest starts with hiking trails up the hill.
