Hotel Am Bismarck in Mannheim

One star. The room lacked an essential basic. In my opinion the following needs to be fulfilled in order to get 1 star, at least in Germany. After that it is varying degrees of comfort (2-5 stars). That the room is clean, it was. That one feels safe, the room could be locked. That it is warm enough, it was cool but not cold (understandable at current energy prices and I could have turned it up). And that it is quiet enough that one can sleep. Here is the problem. The water from the toilet was constantly running and made sounds like a dripping and half open tap, that you could hear through the closed bathroom door. I noticed when I was tucked in and was too tired to go back and complain. But even being very tired from a 14 hour flight and delays by DB past midnight it was hard to find sleep. A no go for me to hand over the keys to such a room. In the morning I mentioned it and the front desk was again very friendly and noted it down, promising to make amends at the next stay. The staff when I arrived was also very friendly. The interior is very old, which I did not really care for as it was only an overnight stay. The location is only 4 min away from central train station, where I stranded, which is why I booked it. Did not book breakfast. Other rooms might have been better and would have justified 3 stars, but judging by this one, I recommend to stay somewhere else.
