Very nice atmosphere surrounded by the forest. Great weekend escape for couple who look for peace ….and great food! Trekking paths in the nature are simply amazing!

Our recent stay at Hotel Sonnenhof in Lam, Germany, was nothing short of exceptional, and we’re thrilled to give it a well-deserved 5-star review! From the moment we arrived, the warm hospitality, stunning surroundings, and top-notch amenities made our experience unforgettable. Nestled on a serene south-facing hillside in the Upper Bavarian Forest, this 4-star Superior hotel offers the perfect blend of relaxation, luxury, and adventure, catering to every type of traveler.

The wellness facilities at Hotel Sonnenhof are truly a standout. The 6,000-square-meter spa area, complete with six pools and nine saunas, provided endless opportunities for relaxation. The infinity pool with its breathtaking views of the Lamer Winkel countryside was a personal favorite, offering a serene escape after a day of exploring. The “5 Elemente Asia SPA” was a highlight, with its diverse treatments, from soothing massages to Traditional Chinese Medicine-inspired therapies. The staff’s expertise and attention to detail ensured every spa visit felt personalized and rejuvenating. While some reviews noted the new sauna area being textile-only, we found the variety of textilfrei options in the Asia Spa perfectly suited our preferences, and the facilities were impeccably clean and modern.

The dining experience was equally impressive. The Petrusstube restaurant served exquisite regional cuisine crafted with fresh, local ingredients, and the breakfast buffet was a dream, offering everything from freshly baked pastries to healthy options. The garden restaurant’s al fresco dining added a charming touch, with views of the lush surroundings enhancing every meal. The staff, particularly in the dining areas, were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to accommodate dietary preferences, making every meal a delight. Special mention goes to the cocktail lounge, where we enjoyed expertly crafted drinks in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

The rooms were a perfect blend of comfort and style, with modern decor, plush bedding, and balconies offering stunning views of the Bavarian Forest. The attention to detail, from the pillow menu to the complimentary toiletries, made our stay feel luxurious. The hotel’s family-friendly amenities, like the Kids Club for ages 3-12 and thoughtful touches such as baby monitors and children’s bathrobes, make it an ideal choice for families, though we traveled as a couple and appreciated the romantic packages, including private spa experiences.

The staff’s warmth and dedication truly set Hotel Sonnenhof apart. From the seamless check-in to the concierge’s helpful recommendations, every interaction was marked by genuine care. As a small company, the hotel clearly values its guests, and we’re happy to support them with this review. I stayed at the Hotel Sonnenhof for three nights with a friend in March 2023. It was our second stay and I wrote a review last year, so just a few observations on things that have or haven’t changed. We had room 101 in the main building this time, which was a little more spacious than the one we had last year. It was more nicely decorated as well. A tea station for the room could have been ordered free of charge, as I found out from the information booklet, which I didn’t read last year. The station might have been available then. The slippers that were provided last year had been exchanged for flip-flops, which we thought was much more convenient. Several new saunas have been added to the spa area as well as an outdoor jacuzzi and other features. Free drinks have also been made available. The sauna area is truly fantastic now! The food was a little better last year, though it was still very good. Dinner again was a four-course sit-down meal on two days plus a salad bar to start with and a cheese buffet for those who could still manage at the end of the meal (I couldn’t). It was buffet style the third evening. The service, too, was still excellent, overall. We did notice that some of the servers in the restaurant were a little out of their depth at times, though, particularly on the Thursday (day of our arrival). We were quite surprised when we were served the soup before the first course and were about to complain to the head waiter when the first course was brought. It was rather funny, actually. The server wanted to place the plates on our table next to the soup but was stopped by the mortified looking head waiter. We also noticed that the people who had ordered the fish weren’t given fish knives on the Thursday. I had the fish on Friday and did get a fish knife, but the regular knife wasn’t removed. In addition, my friend had the pasta instead of the soup and wasn’t given an extra knife and fork instead of the spoon. And one last remark: the cutlery was placed on the table in the wrong order two days in a row. None of this was a big deal, of course, but I expected a little more attention to detail after our fantastic experience last year. Those are just a few minor points of criticism, though. We again had a fantastic time at this exceptional hotel. We will be back!

Relaxing hotel

Food is excellent and facilities all beyond good

It's very nice place. With very friendly personal. The kitchen is traditional and fresh. Nevertheless needs some small details like, bodylotion in the rooms, proper size of capuchino cups and cold water dipping pond in the sauna area.
