We had an amazing time staying at this beautiful little historic hotel! The gentleman who runs the hotel is super friendly and the customer service was 10/10. I loved the experience of staying at a small, individually owned hotel compared to a big chain hotel. Additionally, our room was bright and clean and had a beautiful view onto the Rhine River and Katz Castle. It's only a few minutes walk to the ferry that will take you across the water where you can then head to the famous Loreley lookout. We had a wonderful experience here and would definitely stay again!

A beautiful and historic gem!
Hotel Zum Goldenen Löwen is a truly charming place in the heart of St. Goar. The elegant facade and the well-preserved traditional interior reflect the soul and history of this timeless building. You can really feel its age and character, yet it offers all the modern comfort you need. A perfect spot for a peaceful and authentic stay in a picturesque setting. Highly recommended!

The best stay I've ever had. Everyone was very attentive and careful with every detail, delicious food, perfect location facing the river, romantic and peaceful atmosphere. I loved it.

We spent here 1 night with our family. Location near Loreley and the castles as good as it gets. Very nice and attentive staff. Breakfast was fresh. :)

Absolutely best experience, the staff was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond expectations. Breathtaking views, surreal story book setting, staying here felt like a dream. Wow, bravo !

We had dinner in the restaurant. The food was very tasty and nice; we ate everything. The waiter was also very nice with a sense of humour (from Marosvásárhely/Románia) and he recognised our speech when we were talking in Hungarian.
The only reason I took 1 star; we could not pay with card, only with cash. In 2021 using cash in a hotel restaurant is not an option...

Not really, the Store. We have eaten there, only, can, therefore, say to the Hotel nothing. But actually, that's enough already. A moderately friendly service aside, the food (at least) largely from ready-made meals and in a very unloving. And this is also totally overpriced. Potato salad, Toast with trout from the discounters to the plate. My tip - large bow. And although the Store from the outside looks really appealing.

Occasion: long weekend / short vacation (in July 2014)
Guest: as a couple (age mid-30's)
Posting Type: Half Board
We had included a voucher for a dinner (3-course-menu) in the price. The dinner always began at 18:30. On the day of arrival, we transport goods due to the first order at 19:20 at the Hotel and were welcomed very friendly and the dinner was (despite our delay) prompt and friendly, and served to the table >> the first impression was already very good.
Facilities/Ambience:
who does not want to do without modern addiction, and on luxuries such as a Minibar, a Sauna, or even (in summer) air conditioning, you should choose a different Hotel (have to pay of course).
This family-run Hotel is a traditional Hotel in the "old-German" style ....something "bad" words, the "opposite of Modern to say", BUT this style fits the romantic area of the middle Rhine / Loreley and also has kind of a cozy by the old construction and interior design.
...is ultimately of course a matter of taste!
The one or other piece of furniture could be renewed, but on the whole all fits together and has its own charm, particularly for the many tourists from the USA or Asia, you know, because you expect these "old-German" or traditional style (the Modern you are familiar enough from home).
The room had a direct view on the Rhine, and thus on the castle Katz: very nice!
During the week you can hear, at least from the morning, a few cars drive by, but this noise it is necessary to take in almost all of the Hotels that are located directly on the river Rhine, since the main road runs right on the water, and thus in front of the Hotels. But since you are anyway almost never in the room and the area explored, this point is rather unimportant. In the night, and mostly on the weekends it is pretty quiet.
A Elevator there is not, unfortunately, for my age class less of a Problem for older guests, then, maybe sooner, with regard to the transport of Luggage
(here is help with safety staff).
The basically I would rate with a grade of 2 ("good"): there is bread (bread) from the bakery, as well as different varieties of cheese and sausage.
The jam and honey there are, unfortunately, only in small packaging, which I appreciate as a minus point values >> here you could Supplement with "fresh" jam (from the glass) and honey quality, and the Buffet-optics.
The coffee tastes very good. Orange juice and fruit salad is also offered. Scrambled eggs or hot sausages-not available in the Buffet, only boiled eggs. All in all, still a good, solid Breakfast, but nothing special.
The dinner (3-course-menu) has surprised me very positively. There were all of three days, each delicious appetizers (melon with ham, soup, etc), main dishes (fish, Stew, etc) and desserts (ice cream, strawberries with cream, etc) - Here I give the school-based 2+ --- the Note 1 just because it is high in particularly good Restaurants, EVEN better... but we were fully satisfied and always full (good portions).
The staff and the hotel owners have always been very friendly and have responded to each request. One feels not as a guest or customer is welcome, what is in Germany, Yes, unfortunately, absolutely, of course.
CONCLUSION:
an old traditional Hotel that has a very nice location on the Rhine and, in particular, by the friendly staff and the very good dinner (half Board) will be remembered.

We wanted to go on the last day of our short stay in St. Goar in the morning for Breakfast.
Since the bakery was closed in the pedestrian area, where you can have Breakfast usually in the morning, but on Sunday, we asked in the Restaurant of the Golden lion, if we could have Breakfast. Yes, that would be no Problem, you would bring us all, the rolls would take a bit longer. Ok - no Problem.
Cutlery, plates, cups and two pot of coffee came in a plastic jug with coffee cream. The coffee cream was bad - very beautiful maiden in the coffee !!!!
Ok - can't happen - but it should probably......
The coffee and cream were replaced also.
The "Breakfast buffet" consisted of various varieties of sausage and cheese in a discount quality.
This includes Cornflakes, a bowl with yogurt, orange juice, a fruit salad (fresh fruit - after all,) and several varieties of jam in portion containers.
The bread rolls parbaked parts à la "Aldi mixed bag", otherwise, a few slices of grey, there were still - and black bread.
The eggs were semi-cooked, hard and cold.
A sausage places had dry edges, bulging, and also the Camembert made the impression that he would have been already dished out a couple of times on the Buffet.
Well, Yes - we found something Edible - soooo demanding, we are not now....
The absolute Hammer was then, when I wanted to pay:
For this really is the "easiest" Breakfast (my Sunday Breakfast at home is definitely much better), I would not have given more than 5 euros, demanded per Person is a whopping $ 17.50!!!!!!!!! An incredible up and down !!!!!!!
To me, it has really speechless.......
To my shocked objection that this was probably quite nice a bit steep, was only a slight shrug of the shoulders....
I would have asked first about the price, we wouldn't have stayed there, but we had no other choice, unfortunately, as to pay.....
Conclusion: inferior quality, coupled with a cheeky, brazen rip-off !!!!!!
I can only advise every visitor, to make this place a wide berth !!!!

Good food, friendly Service, all without the Chi-Chi - an Original on the middle Rhine with a nice terrace.
