Civitel Esprit in Athens

Not a bad budget hotel - it is supposed to be 4-star but i would call it more in line with a 3-star hotel! Service is good enough but a lot of issues in the room and restaurant. It's the first time that i have seen an open plan shower in the bedroom area (and just opposite the bed)!! And water was leaking out of the shower area into the bedroom (not much but enough to be a danger perhaps to older people slipping etc) - plus it looked unsightly. The sink was also in the bedroom - felt more like a studio room - with just the toilet as a separated area (see photos). Some other smaller issues - minibar fridge in the room was on but not cold, some lights were not working in the room, actual main light was very dim, toilet light would not go off - permanently on, pillows were not particularly outstanding, coffee machine in the breakfast restaurant dispensed only lukewarm coffee. Breakfast was not very extensive - had basic items like eggs and tinned fruit, some hot items like sausages, pancakes, very pasty and awful tasting croissants, tinned (not fresh) fruit juices, and one side of the heating elements of the toaster was not working (so you would get only 1 side toasted)! Despite all of this, it is clean and the staff are very friendly. Small TV but it has streaming services like Amazon, Netflx and Youtube for entertainment. It also has all the '4-star accouterments' like shower cap, toothbrush, hand lotion, bathrobe and slippers etc. They just need to sort out these relatively minor issues. Good wifi and excellent A/C. Recommended if you are looking more for a budget hotel rather than a business hotel for senior executives - it seems to sit mid-way between a 3-star and a 4-star!

Don't stay here in the summer.
AC does not work well at all.
Got up to 85F. Staff said they can't do anything to make it work better
