Hotel Varmahlíd, Varmahlid1 / 17
Northwestern Region, Varmahlid, Laugavegur 1 🧭 Map
Good location. Convenient as a one night stop along the route. Courteous staff.
Very basic hotel, a bit tired, sulphur smell to the hot water.
Nice rooms Bathroom is too small Reception: girl kept sitting=impolite Bar: appears to opens at 6 pm; after hours of driving arriving at 4.30 pm a wainting period of 1.5 hours. Very unfriendly!
Great food, but pretty old rooms. The shower was not completely clean. Apart from that it was okay for a night.
Very basic and old hotel. The bathtub isn't ventilated so the sulfur smell from the hot water stays in the room. The pillows very thin and not comfortable to sleep on
Great stuff, good food. Simple rooms for fair price

It was a makeshift stay due to bad weather, and the breakfast was terrible.
Clean and sanitary good service
We were on a trip around the island and stayed here. Overall it's not bad. There are not many hotels in the north. ,,,,,,,,,,recommend
The hotel is very quiet, the front desk service is enthusiastic, the rental car broke down, the hotel front desk patiently helped to contact the car rental company, the room is quiet, very clean, the yard is large. The breakfast is very rich.
If you need a place to stay one night on the round trip of Iceland, from Akureyri back to Reykjavik, Laugarbakki is the choice. Hotel choices are limited. This one is probably a reasonable choice. Compared with other hotels of similar quality in other towns, this one is relatively expensive. The breakfast lacks choices, too. But the staff is good, as I lost a remote control of my selfie and found...
Hotel is big and nice, as not really in a city centre, so the light pollution is not strong there, had the best northern light experience right in next to the hotel.

Still an ok hotel. Very practical. Good for a few nights and affordable. Nice location in the old town of Blonduos. Facing the sea. Near the restaurant and cafe and the old Blonduos church
Very typical hotel, certainly not the most fancy you'll find but very standard in Iceland. Rooms are clean and very functional (with good beds). Breakfast is very good. However the hotel is making the difference in the services provided by the staff and the manager. We were advised to go to a very good African restaurant nearby. Reservation was made by the hotel personnel. Restaurants are in the next...
This hotel is located in a very quaint town and the hotel in an excellent location. We got a room overlooking the ocean. The person making the desk was extremely nice and very hospitable. The rooms were clean and the linens were of good quality. The bathrooms were clean. The hotel could do with a bit of maintenance and could expand the breakfast a bit specially for vegans
nice receptionist and quiet place....very natural place since some mosquitos and flies can fly into bedroom even all door and Windows were closed..
The hotel itself is older, however it was very clean! Our room was freshly painted and also had new flooring. The shower had really good water pressure. All the water smells strongly like sulfur but that’s normal and to be expected for the area. The staff was extremely accommodating! Everyone wanted to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The manager gave us a lot of really great recommendations...
Very quiet little hotel right by the coast. Rooms were decent and breakfast was average.

Northwestern Region, Saudarkrokur, Skagfirdingabraut 24, by Saudárhlíd 🧭 Map
Byli jsme nadseni. Prijedem znova! Very good location. Professional staff. Reasonably sized room with private bathroom. Good roller blinds. Good internet. Large parking lot. All clean. This place is more suitable for travellers rather than to spoiled tourists. Why do you need TV in the room if you are on Iceland?!
We stayed there three noghts and we have absolutely nothing to complain about. The rooms are pretty and clean, the services absolutely fine and the receptionists are so nice and willing to help with or advise anything one might need.
is important to know this is a student dormitory converted to a hotel during the summer tourist months. That means sparse very basic accommodations that are not super cozy, very little decor, furniture that seems out of place in the foyer and other areas, no TV or amenities, tiny bathrooms, thin walls (you hear everyone else showering, moving around etc) and wifi that doesn’t work great, if at all...
Don’t take any notice of other reviews! Iceland accommodation is limited at best of times!! This is a very small town and I can promise for the price you will not be disappointed. It’s very modern, clean, staff super friendly 24hr receptionist. One of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in!! Stay here then go to the KK restaurant in town.
This summer hotel is a boarding school during the year. The essential is there and the staff is friendly.
This is a summer hotel and a school dorm in the winter.

We received a room upgrade on the spot, which was lovely!🤩 plus, they offered us the hot outdoors jacuzzi where we spotted the best aurora borealis of our lives 🌌
Relaxed youth hostel style hotel with plenty of camping spots available. Beautiful peaceful surroundings including a horse farm and the lake. Amenities are not ideal but great super friendly service makes up for it. Highly recommended to camp here.
We just loved it. The room they gave us was completly renewed and everything was very clean and Preston's. The staff is very gentle. The outside heated pool and jacuzzi were so good! Highly recommended!
The real thing, not too fancy but simple and very likable
The large room, the hospitality, the home made food, the view, a must for night over.
Very nice camping area with great facility and view

Tremendous hotel! Magical. Lovely geothermal pool. Elegant dining in an epic restaurant setting. Wonderful classic old rooms. Helpful staff. Didn’t want to leave.
A lovely hotel, very comfortable, close to eateries and good position for walks etc. Good breakfast and the service was really good.
We are two couples traveling together in Iceland on the Ring Road. We absolutely loved this hotel. One of us was reminded of the old hotels in England he stayed in. The room was comfortable and clean. We loved the spa on the patio and we ate at the restaurant in the hotel and had a great meal. They even had a vegan option (one of us is vegan) made with vegetables from Icelandic greenhouses. The beds...
Nice hotel Bathroom too cold; no floor heating Nice bedroom. Good breakfast
Beautiful discovery of this historic hotel in Saudarkrokur. Staff very attentive to their guests, impeccable breakfast in a beautiful restaurant room. Our Icelandic trip was even more beautiful thanks to this place. We will return.
We were on the 2nd floor of the annex, which required carrying our luggage up steep steps. The room itself had a lovely front view of the water and was quite spacious with a sitting room. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, the tv and WiFi worked perfectly and there was an easy to use espresso machine in the room as well as a selection of teas. The bathroom was an odd layout, very narrow with...

Best place we have stayed so far. Clean, friendly, really good supper and free breakfast. Waffles with homemade cream. Awsome showers. You are able to fill thermos with hot water. Bigger rooms. Pool table, music in back ground with sun pouring in front window. Nice spot
Good room, no common area where you can eat own food, OK breakfast.
The hotel was fun, close to some attractions. The bead and rooms were clean and the shared bathroom was clean as well. Hostess was polite and very nice. It is a bit dated and retro but in our opinion it was a great stay. Would visit again .
A bit run down in general, but still a comfortable stay. Super friendly staff (from Lithuania) catered to our specific needs. Dinner in the restaurant was OK and actually affordable. Rooms were neat and clean. Same for the shared bathroom.

Friendly staff, especially the young man with the scarf (he kindly knocked on all doors to inform that northern lights are visible), good breakfast, rooms are old but ok, shower wasnt clean and the water did run off very slow. Wifi was also very slow up to a point that it was unusable. I guess they have too small bandwith for the number of guests. Billiard table couldnt be used as some balls were missing...

After reading the references here, I would like to add my experience. The place is just fine. Self check-in works, breakfast is served. The WiFi works in the main building, there are cool chairs with beautiful view. The rooms were clean, the furniture is a bit older but who cares. We stayed here just for one night and it was a good choice on the way from Akureyri to West Fjords. So don't worry about...
The hotel is simple and basic - which is why it is inexpensive. The self check in makes sense to lower cost but could be better executed. We didn't receive an email with self check in instructions prior to our arrival (we booked only one day in advance) and the phone numbers provided we always busy. There was a email address at the front desk which responded within 15 minutes. Once we had the info...
It's good value for money. The rooms are fine and the breakfast is okay. The check in was a disappointment. I don't mind if there is no reception, but we needed help and didn't get any for two hours. We booked when we arrived (around 5PM), so we didn't had any information about our room number and code whatsoever beforehand. We decided to call the number on the desk for assistance. No answer. 2nd...

Nice acommodation with an amazing view. There was plenty of space for 4 people, the beds were confortable and the floor heating very pleasant.
Beautiful location! Just a hop off of the Ring Road. Apartment was very clean with several nice touches such as coffee/tea/juice. The view was fantastic. We enjoyed watching the horses and sheep from the large windows facing the water.
Very Unique, Nice n Beautiful Location, Good Quality Utensils and Very Good Coffee Machine to go with the Environment 😆
Perfekt hideout, with amazing interior and view. Best accommodation in the region. Highly recommended!
It was the best stay in our whole trip :) it was really lovely. We would absolutely recommend it to everybody.
This is a great place to stay. The views are amazing and it's located just outside the village. Making it nice and quiet but also easy to go to the supermarket. The breakfast was served as well and was very extensive with different breads, toppings and fruits. They even gave us a toy tractor and a sled for our son to play with. We will definitely stay here again when visiting North Iceland!

We booked last minute at 46 because the roads weren’t easy that day to keep driving and it’s located in a cute town where the seals dwell. The house was toasty to welcome us on a snowstorm night, thanks! If your preference is a colder temperature, this is easy to adjust by opening the window. There might be some knob but we didn’t need it so we didn’t ask about it. Rooms were small but very comfortable...
Very friendly owners and clean rooms with a beautiful view of the lake. The owners were very accommodating and left a key for us on the table when we were arriving late at night. Only think that could be improved is answering the phone more frequently.
Very friendly owners, good spot along the sea, not too far from the number 1 road. Well equipped kitchen, you can help yourself for breakfast with tea, coffee, toast. I would recommend.
Absolutely perfect! First of all, owners are really nice and friendly people. Lady showed us around and she was even waving to us from windows when we were leaving. I felt like at home. The room was ready and wasn't missing anything important. It was also clean and warm. There are 2 shared bathrooms, both clean and warm. Shared kitchen is absolutely top! It offers so rich equipment, there is literally...
The hosts Steinbjorn and Eva-Lena were very friendly and have the cutest dogs. There was a lot of food provided for the breakfast: bread, jams, juices, sauces, tea and coffee. We were the only guests so the place was very quiet. We had an amazing seaview in our room and from the living room. There were many board games, cards and books available for guests.

Everything was clean and nice. We even got an upgrade. Really nice hosts.
That was a great stay. Super friendly woman that gave us many tips about what we could include in our Iceland journey (including hiking). Was a pleasure to stay there! Everything was clean and comfortable. Big room with kitchen where people can get together. She even made coffee in the morning!
Beautiful property! We really enjoyed the dogs and horses, and taking a walk around the property. The hosts were wonderful, and gave us great advice on things to do while in Iceland.
This is a farm, far away from everything. So bring your own food and satellite dish for the evening hours (just a kitchen for your own food, wifi only in the shared room)... Or just concentrate on social activities (dogs, board games, looking for the northern lights, jacuzzi).
Nice place to stay. Clean rooms, a lovely doggo, chill farm enviroment. Wifi was out of range in our room as a minus point. Our room had a tons of electric outlets, finally i doesn't needed to choose what to charge for next day-camera or phone. :)
Very nice rooms with a comfortable community space including a well stocked kitchen which is always open. There is no dinner available and the included breakfast is typical. There is a tractor trail through the woods and down to the river. The hosts sat a MF answered our many questions about raising sheep and their way of life. Very nice.

Lónkot was hands down our favorite hotel of our week in Iceland. The owners were so friendly and helpful, the room was great, a king size bed in Iceland. It is not fancy, it is rural. There was one other family, who had been fishing that day, and the chef cooked them the fish they caught for their dinner and they even offered some to us if we wanted. Not your normal, sterile Euro-style hotel. Would...
We had a wonderful stay here. Julia was a great host and took very good care of us. I can not think of many places that I have been to as peaceful and with such natural beauty as we experienced here. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you Julia!
A superb view on the sea and the little island just in the front of the hotel. All around behind the hotel you can see the mountains. The room was perfect. There is also a hot bathroom outside ! Very pleasant and confortable... I definitly recommend the place. Ps : there is a restaurant with iceland prices (count 4200 isk for your main dish)
Stunning location & great staff! We stayed at Lónkot 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. The location is one of a kind, with a beautiful view of Drangey and the sea. Our room had everything we needed and the beds were super comfy. We also dined at the restaurant and very much enjoyed how they used local produce. They even have their own hot pool which is just what you need after a day of sightseeing...
Location - stunning ... Buildings - creative ... Restaurant - necessary since far from town ... Staff - friendly ... Areas Lacking - 1. bathrooms not kept stocked 2. The best family place we have stayed in while in Iceland. Hosts Gunna and Toti generously shared their morning dairy operation activities with our children and us. We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, great communication from the hosts, incredible views into Keldudalur, and working-farm experience. The cottage was large and had great views (excellent new construction) and was our favorite stay while...
Wonderful cottages with an abundance of supplies provided such as salt, pepper and baking oil. The view is marvellous as the cottages are located isolated from the main roads. This is also a minor downside as it takes a while to go to any tourism spots. Would recommend.
It's a lovely place with lovely owners and two Icelandic sheepdogs which are extremely friendly. They have two guesthouses, one can be hired to two groups because the floors are completely separated with one entrance downstairs and one upstairs from the other side. The second one - Leifhús - is bigger and has both floors accessible only from downstairs. Besides the guesthouses they are also running...
Great house very cozy and complete.
A great accommodation. The cabin has all the amenities you can imagine. Around 7:00 p.m. the animals return to the farm and you can enjoy a while with the goats and the horses.

Very, very small rooms, the kitchen is well equipped, but there is not enough space to sit down to eat when it is fully booked. WiFi is available in the room and there is a large TV in the common room. The whirlpool in front of the house can be let in on request and is awesome. Warm and clean place. It is far from residential area and the road to get there is with soil.
Small and cozy guesthouse in a nice location.
I found it extremely expensive considering what they offer: a tiny, den-like bedroom with a common bathroom where you can hear everything happening in your neighbor room, and I suppose vice-versa? 😐 I wouldn't book this place a second time nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Excellent guesthouse with 5 rooms and 2 shared baths. Full kitchen facility and hot tub included. Horse back riding could be arranged. Breakfast was in refrigerator but it worked out well even with several people eating at same time. Room was comfortable and bath was good power and heat. WiFi worked well. Never met the owner but the setup was so good, didn't need to!
We LOVED our stay here. The place was so clean and we met wonderful people from Montreal. We made our dinner there and the place was well appointed for cooking from scratch. We did wonder why there was no freezer for ice cube making. And the view!!! Surrounded literally by grazing horses. So peaceful and lovely. To top it off, big bathrooms and a thermal spring supplied hot tub which I enjoyed after...
Very clean accommodation. 2 shared toilets/bathrooms that were big and clean. The kitchen is equipped with toaster and oven and a good variety of food for meals. Unfortunately, wifi did not work on the day we checked in. Staff took a while to come over to inspect the problem but could not resolve it.
I love the decor and the "spa" like feel of the room and bathroom. Very clean, easy to find, quiet location. What I didn't like is the fancy blinds I couldn't figure out and had to place pillows in the window to block out the light. I also had an embarrassing morning with breakfast. Other guesthouses label the guesthouse food so you know what you can or cannot use. And it is understood if something...
We loved staying at this property! The quietness was lovely. The fridge was stocked for breakfast which was appreciated and the hot tub was wonderful after many days of hikes. The only small issue was trying to contact the property. I was not able to use my phone to call and the property does not respond to messages, but a wonderful place to stay and would highly recommend!

It was a beautiful cottage with a river view. They had all the amenities we needed at a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this place to families travelling with children.
Charming cabin within the sound of a rushing river. Peaceful despite being part of a larger campground, check in and out were very easy. We only stayed one night so did not get to use either the indoor sauna or back deck hot tub. A little tight for five adults, so if you stay longer than a night or two I don’t recommend a full complement of six.
Stayed at Gladheimar in one of the, one bedroom cabins. Great clean, comfortable and functional self catering facilities, with amenities within walking distance if required. Very helpful owner and Wifi within the cabin great as well, recommend a stay here if travelling in the area
It was wonderful! The landscape, the peace, force of nature, and of course the awesome cottage, with hot tub and everything you might need! The Host and all personnel is very kind and gentle. Everything was perfect. Thanks a lot Gladheimar!!
It's ok, but needs some renovation. The rooms are clean, the beds ok. But the shower.... But there is a sauna and a hot pot.
