Palazzo Samà in Catanzaro

Great 1-night stay in Palazzo Samà and we wanted to stay another but it was fully booked. From the outside it doesn’t look like much but once you step inside you are taken back in time. It has been modernized in an old style.
We had a room in the valley side of the building and it had a view of the old railway station. Two rooms are on the valley side and 2 are on the road side. We had no traffic noise.
The double bed was comfortable and we were amazed at the high ceilings. The bathroom room is modern and very functional.
The responsiveness of the host, Salvatore, was excellent. We received all the detailed information ahead of time, and get access and the key worked very well. We even were given a photo of where to store our bikes.
There is a shared room where there are tea and coffee making facilities as well as snacks & a fridge full of fruit, drinks and yogurts. This room is mostly used to top up your breakfast but we used it to have an evening cup of tea. It is not a kitchen for cooking out food preparation though.
There is an addition breakfast of a coffee and croissant at the bar right next door. Pietro, the bar owner, is expecting you.
The location is at the base of the city so unless you have a car it is not easy to get up there. We did it on bikes and it was a 200m climb!

Pleasant room with modern facilities, sharing a well-appointed common room (for drinks and snacks). Half the rooms have a view accross the valley. Close to Catanzaro Sala station (currently closed [2025] but due to be incorporated into the rebuilt Metro system in future). 5 minutes from bus route [1 an hour in February '25]. About a 20- minute climb on foot to the city centre (on top of the hill), or 10 minute walk to the funicular railway. Street parking outside.

Bar next door, and a few local shops, but a full meal will require a walk, or drive.

4 of 5. The accommodations were clean and tidy. There was a brief communication issue to get access, but the neighbor helped us phone the owner. This property was centrally located and easy to find. The owner provided fresh croissants for breakfast with fresh fruits.

The place is gorgeous, it has its character - you can feel it once you enter the house.
Everything is clean and well maintained, you can see that Salvatore (very thoughtful and amiable, thank you for such hospitality) put his heart in it. You have everything you need in the room and can have a nice rest as the neighbourhood is very quite.
A very nice bonus - little snacks (fruit, yogurt, biscuits) in the kitchen and a small breakfast (coffee and croissant) in the bar next to the place - so you can fully feel the Italian vibe!

Location easy access, had supermarket next door and bar open.

Also at backyard had beautiful cat can be your friend, please bring some cat food for those lovely cats.
