Hotel Maxim in Bologna

It was quite bad. The breakfast was quite nasty, eggs were grey and overcooked. Rooms are deeply outdated, whole place smells like cigarettes. Maid left our room wide open after cleaning, nothing was stolen but it was really irresponsible of her. People running this place were actually very very nice and it's nothing against them, just is not a good hotel. Its maybe good for truckers or on-the-road sleepers for one night but for a longer stay I wouldn't recommend. Its very far away from city center and railway station.

This place is supposed to be 3 stars. There is absolutely no way .
We chose it because it was quite cheap but still not cheap enough.
Our room was supposed to have AC- it did not. They said the hotel was quite hot even though it was freezing during the night. Their solution was giving us a heater.. the extra bed cover looked really old and didn’t warm us.
The room was not clean, specially under the bed. It looked really really old, part of the wall falling apart.
The staff: one of them did not speak English.
The wi fi was horrible
The location was okay-ish because there s a bus stop just by the hotel that takes you to downtown.

Hotel Maxim is a 25 minute bus ride out of town and that bus is very busy. The reception is closed overnight and you need a code to get in. The carpets are worn, thread bare in places. The corridor leading to our room was narrow. The room had a card key slot covered over with masking tape, inside there is more masking tape, exposed fuse boxes at eye level very old 3 round pin plug sockets, we needed an adapter for our adapters No bedside table of any sort by the double beds on either side and no light/lamps of any sort by the bed. the lamp on a dressing table didn't work the bedding was very old and well worn but clean. not enough warm bedding for the weather tiny shabby ancient shower (bathroom had an ancient phone) towels that were napkin material, not great for drying no toiletries except a very basic soap no beverages except water in a fridge that wasn't replaced on the 2nd day. the floor wasn't clean, leaving us with dirty feet. the stairs to a mezzanine level were very narrow and open style the TV is small with poor reception and no English channels at all. Breakfast is basic but edible and cutlery/crockery was clean The receptionists are the only good thing about the place, they were both friendly and helpful with good English.
