Janus Hotel in Castelsardo

Do not stay here. First red flag was being told they had free parking but when you arrive you find it is 20 Euros a day and not even onsite. Meanwhile, you can actually park in the street for less than 5 euros a day. But it gets worse. They added charges to our bill that should not have been there and when we questioned it they threatened to call the police. The manager would not talk to us directly, hiding away like the coward he clearly is leaving the receptionists to deal with us. Worst management I have EVER experienced. And by the way, the beach is disgustingly filthy .. piles of cigarette butts and plastics on the beach edge and I had what looked like half a cats tail float by me just 2 or 3 metres from the beach. We will never recommend this hotel or this town to anyone. (This stay was in August 2025.)

Hotel is overpriced and the infrastructure is old. The staff and management were not friendly or helpful. Although the hotel is across from the beach, the beach was dirty and full of rubbish. I do not recommend this hotel.

We have had the most distressing experience ever at this hotel. We did a usual check-in and got the electronic key card. We went to our floor and placed the key card onto the glass card reader plate. Our door would not unlock. We tried placing the card at different angles including the top and side. However, when we lightly tapped to the right side the glass plate cracked and dropped to the floor and shattered. We did not apply any unusual pressure to warrant this. We contacted the lady on reception who came and assisted. She could not open the door either and even tried a normal door key but to no avail. After about 20 mins she produced another card key that worked. However, after dinner that night, we again couldn’t get into our room and she had to assist by calling someone to fix it. She then proceeded to tell me that we will be charged €130 for the damage to the glass plate. I disputed this, as we did not do anything to deliberately damage the glass. I think the glass plate was already compromised with a hairline fracture and we were the unlucky ones to come along next and tap it. She said her boss said we have to pay. I asked to speak to him, but was told he was unavailable and to try in the morning. On checkout the next morning we were presented with the bill for €130. I explained again that this damage was not our fault and could I speak to her boss. She said he was not available and if we didn’t pay she would call the police. We are a middle aged couple traveling and have never had this experience before. We are respectful wherever we stay. We were treated like criminals for something that was not our fault and the boss of the hotel did not even have the decency to chat to us about it and instead hid behind his staff. I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone. This experience has ruined our stay in Castelsardo, cost us an extra €130 and caused a lot of stress.
