Relais & Chateaux Hotel Castel Fragsburg in Merano

This was our seventh stop at Fragsburg. It never disappoints The location is stunning, the service impeccable, the food wonderful and the people the nicest of any hotel/resort we have stayed. Four days is really not enough. We had had a stressful few months and were totally able to relax and be pampered.

After staying in hundreds or even thousands of hotels in 80+ countries, Castel Fragsburg is in my Top 3 hotels in the world. Confirmed after a second visit, the property and staff are EXTREMELY impressive. It is one of very few hotels that I recommend without hesitation to my friends and family as a must-see. To begin, the property is just magical. Quiet, on a mountain with awe-inspiring views of the valley below, fruit trees around you, and mountains above you, it is an escape from city life, yet only a 15 minute drive down to Merano. With only 20 rooms it never feels crowded. It feels exclusive and so luxurious. Public areas and rooms are finely decorated, with attention to small and large details. Everything is in perfect position and you see the staff constantly making it so. I have stayed in three different room types - a junior suite, the Soul Luxury Suite and a Suite Royal. Obviously, if you can afford the larger suite, do it. You won't regret it. This is one hotel that I really believe is worth the upgrade price, especially if you plan to stay on the property a lot. I happily spent full days between the room, restaurant, spa, and pool. The Soul Luxury Suite is quite an experience with balconies on two sides for different views that are difficult to stop photographing. The Suite Royal that I stayed in most recently was gorgeous too with fantastic views from a single large balcony that included lounge chairs and a richly decorated large room. The generous and gourmet breakfast served in a classical space contributes to why this is one of my top hotels of the world. It feels like a Michelin star quality breakfast, served in a restaurant that deserves recognition just for its design and view, but also for outstanding food (buffet and cooked to order) with white glove service that should be a model for all restaurants around the world. Dinner is also served in the same restaurant, and while on the expensive side for the quantity, it certainly impresses. I was yet again impressed by the attentive and friendly servers and the sommelier who tailored his recommendations perfectly for my requests, and I found a very memorable wine and local acquavite, plus great conversation as a result. This is not a review for the Michelin star restaurant Prezioso, which I did not try. Hiking and biking trails/roads from easy to difficult are all around the hotel for more active days without driving. Thank you to the wonderful people working at Castel Fragsburg for making such memorable experiences. This is a truly special place that I hope everyone can experience at least once.

The Fragsburg Castle hotel lies on a slope above the Merano valley. Wonderful and magical view from the room as well as from the restaurant veranda. Reaching the hotel needs somewhat careful driving. The place is run in a most professional manner. Restaurant was very good. Service was professional and excellent. In fact, all facilities were excellent. The gardens around are fantastic and well taken care of. Swimming pool was nice. The old Castle above the hotel is nice to visit. The rooms are spacious and with large windows and exquisite view. But in our eyes, the decor was plane and rustic and could be upgraded to the level of the entire hotel.

A place where you can breath again. A magnificent terrace overlooking the valley will be the best place to unwind and enjoy a delicious breakfast (try the fruit, it's just out of this world!).

Excellent visit from Mon- Fri, a luxury location. Stayed in a Jr Suite with breathtaking view of the mountains and the valley. Huge windows and a porch were perfect. Breakfast was exceptional each day. Small touches of treats left at turn down - some sweets, dried flowers- were lovely. Beautiful pool area and grounds. Gardens amazing. It’s worth doing the 20 minute hike to the waterfall. A very serene location with attentive staff. Highly recommend.

Location is stunning, perched on a mountaintop above Merano. Facilities are outstanding. Great suite, restaurant, staff, and peacefulness. Would return in a heartbeat. Staff were wonderful-friendly, helpful and resourceful. Pool was marvelous

This stay was outstanding and we would recommend it highly! For the cost it was just an incredible experience. PROS:View! Spa! Food! Room! All were stellar, I especially was thrilled with the spa and the natural products that Renate has curated, she is knowledgeable and a true gem at this hotel. Do yourself a favor and book the bath:) As a chef myself at Relais Chateaux properties I was thrilled with all of the food we had at both restaurants, but actually preferred the Orangerie dinners surprisingly. Extremely helpful staff, thanks to Marina for so much assistance with tracking down local festivities in the area for us to explore, and to all the front desk employees who answered my several questions when booking. Beautiful stunning grounds and indoor space. It felt like a gorgeous greenhouse during meals. The rolling shudders in the room were great we were able to sleep in. Love all of the sensor lights to conserve energy in the halls. CONS: wifi was very spotty so if you need to work that may be difficult. Pool was not heated IMO, it was more like a cold plunge temperature in October, and the whirlpool was a low temp, not as hot as expected and the pool area could use lighting closer to whirlpool, we couldn't see to get out until we moved further around the pool and caught the motion sensors. Mattress felt like it could use a slight upgrade, could feel and hear the springs when moving, also struggled with pillows that didn't support enough, but linens were great! Having a more subtle light in the toilet would have been so appreciated, it's quite bright when you have to go in the night, was really blinding. If you don't catch Favio the bartender for your drinks, they will likely not be that great as he seems to be the only knowledgeable person for cocktails, we started waiting to see him to order a pre-dinner drink. RECOMMENDATIONS: Spread out the food and alternate days. 1 at hotel, 1 somewhere in the city, then the hotel again, etc etc. It is all SO delicious but 5 days of 5 course dinners and breakfasts took its toll and we were very sluggish. Go explore the neighboring cities, Merano, Lana, Algund! The cable cars and little inns you can find to eat and drink at are incredible. For absolutely stunning colors and views I would go just 2 weeks later in October to see it all at peak. Go Explore!! There is so much to see in the valley! Overall we loved our visit to Castel Fragsburg and it was a beautiful and welcoming reprieve. I can truly say as a previous employee of Relais and Chateaux at Blackberry Farm as a chef, this hotel is excelling at meeting those requirements.

Castel Fragsburg is a magical hotel and spa, situated high up in the SudTyrol Alpes, above Merano. It is like stepping back in time to a place of impeccable service, a professional staff who work tirelessly to make sure every detail of your stay is perfect. We arrived to a welcoming aperitif being served to us on the Dining Deck overlooking the town and out to the Alpes. Next we enjoyed a once in a lifetime private wine and spirit tasting and tour of the castle above the hotel. Fabio and Samuel hosted us for the tour of the castle and then led us to a castle room where all the wines and spirits were set up, with two wonderful chairs for my friend and I to sit in while experiencing the tasting. A charcuterie platter was also presented. I heartily suggest that you arrange for the Tasting and Tour prior to your arrival at the hotel! Every aspect of our visit to Castel Fragsburg, the Micheline Star dining, the talents of Samuel's mixology, the elegant room, the incredible spa (Angela game me the best massage I have every had!) and the natural scenic glory of where this resort is located.... all was perfect!!!
