Hotel Oasi Dei Discepoli in Orvieto

A seminary converted into a hotel where the only limit is time. Positive aspects: Spacious rooms, cleanliness, welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent location for visiting the historic center thanks to a convenient parking lot about 2 km away, from which you can access escalators or elevators to reach the city. Breakfast is average. Negative aspects: Dated furnishings. Soundproofing in the rooms, the same as in the past. Some problems (at least in our room) with a lack of hot water. In conclusion, for a one or two day stay, passable.

We stayed at this hotel for Umbria Jazz Winter. The downside is its location. Excellent for those with a car, but a curse for those relying on public transportation. It's not in the city of Orvieto, but in a hamlet outside of Orvieto: Sferracavallo, about 2 km from Orvieto city center. City bus connections from this hamlet to Orvieto city center are infrequent and very confusing, with the stop in Piazza della Repubblica in Orvieto being moved to Porta Romana depending on the day. In short, it's a disaster, especially for the return journey to Sferracavallo from the town. It's not even possible to walk this 2 km as there are non-pedestrianized sections. The alternative is taxis, which cost €15 each way in the morning and €25 at night. Having booked it through ***********, there was nothing to suggest all these problems. *********** itself stated that it was 1.4 km from the city center without mentioning that it was in Sferracavallo, and the description didn't even mention it. The rooms are spacious and heated, and the breakfast is excellent. The shower tray, however, is lacking in cleanliness, with stains in both our room and elsewhere. In conclusion, I recommend it only for those with a car.
