Kaneki Hotel in Yamanouchi

Great location close to all the small public baths. A bit far from the main station but still walkable or reachable by bus. The room is clean and cozy with very old Ryokan vibes. The hotel itself has a private bath and public bath with shower. Not very clean but ok. I guess depends on what time you use it. The breakfast is nice and simple, really enjoyed it. You can walk to the monkey park from here.

It is located within walking distance of 9 public onsen's (hot springs). It is among Vintage looking streets and buildings. Locals are very warm, friendly and welcoming. Traditional Japanese style restaurants and bar are also within walking distance. Almost all tourists here roam the streets wearing yakuta. It is a great place to experience traditional Japanese culture.

Good rooms, futon was better than hotel beds. There's a heated kotatsu, a fridge, and a safe. The internet is very fast, and not limited by a stupid amount like 200mb like done hotels. Located in the middle of the 9 onsens, I enjoyed my stay.

I was able to stay cheaply in the hot spring town. This was enough for a night without meals, and I was able to visit 9 hot springs in the town. The building and facilities are a little old, but it has a Showa-era feel to it.

The food was good and the hot spring culture in the town was great, but the hotel was too cold in winter. Very traditional hotel

Room was cold after the oil heater ran out in the middle of the night. The oil heater was not enough for the whole night during the winter time and the hot water in the sink was not working.

The room is clean and tidy, and the Japanese breakfast is delicious

I used it because it was reasonable to go skiing in Shiga Kogen without difficulty. There is a rock bath with free-flowing hot springs and a private bath, and the rooms are spacious enough in Japanese style. I was handed a master key for the outdoor bath, and it was supposed to be a pre-ski trip, but before I knew it, it turned into a hot spring trip. The food is prepared well in the morning and is delicious. You can check in late at night, so it's perfect for skiing on your way home from work. Also, I would like to use it next season.
