We had a fantastic stay at Shinzan. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The onsen is stunning. The staff were extremely kind and helpful right from check in. I will also add that there was a huge snowstorm on our final day. Our train was cancelled and the staff arranged for a bus to take us to a town not affected by the storm. Rooms were very traditional BUT with private toilets and Western mattresses, the latter of which I especially appreciated as I can't sleep well on futon. The hosts were very helpful and accommodating and I recommend having the breakfast included. They feed you well and it's a unique experience if you're not used to traditional Japanese breakfasts.
