Nagano, 1372-1 Matsushiromachi Nishiderao, 381-1215 Nagano, Prefektura Nagano, Yaponiya (9 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The room was incredibly spacious, offering exceptional value for the price. The hotel maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. While the furniture and carpets show some slight signs of age, the overall comfort remains high. I was impressed by their Zero Waste policy; instead of plastic bottles in the room, they provide glassware and a convenient water dispenser located...
Before booking, I want to give travelers a heads-up about staying in Nagano. Compared to Tokyo, Nagano is much more rural. Local transportation relies heavily on buses, which usually only come about once an hour, and the timetable isn’t always accurate. Also, there are no street lamps around the area near this hotel at night, so definitely bring a good flashlight. If possible, renting a car is highly...
We made use of the 2:20pm free shuttle from Nagano station to the hotel. Head to the east exit of Nagano station, go down to ground level, the shuttle bus will be at stop 34/35. The ride took more than 20 minutes, but we could check-in straightaway when we reached the hotel. Had two cans of Kirin beer as our welcome drinks because I was still Accor silver member when we booked this room. We were assigned...
Stayed at this resort for a few days in first week of January 2026. I would not include it in my top 5 hotels that I stayed in Japan this year. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The resort itself is about a 30 minute taxi ride away from Nagano Station. Uber is not available in Nagano but front desk staff can help youbif you want to book a taxi but this should be done well in advance....
I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights while exploring the nagano region. first the positives:- - great price for the standard of the room. while the decor is dated, everything works, and its relatively clean. - super convenient if you have a car. there was free parking and it is at most 30 mins to 2 hours to most tourist attractions and ski resorts - the reception staff was polite, quite different from...
We had a pleasant stay at Mercure Nagano. The breakfast buffet was impressive, offering an extensive selection of Western and Asian cuisine. I appreciated the complimentary shuttle service from Nagano station to the hotel and back, given its location approximately 15-20 minutes away. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, which had good water pressure. However, we were disappointed to find that...

Hotel’s great with best location and convenient .
Location: It's super convenient, directly connected to the mall and Nagano Station from the 2nd floor. Facilities: The hotel is a bit old, but it's very clean and spacious, so it felt quite good. I bought some Nagano apples (pretty average) and discounted sushi from the supermarket on the first floor of the mall, and had a DIY dinner at the hotel, hehe 😁
The Good: You cannot beat the location. Being directly connected to Nagano Station is a total game-changer, especially if you’re hauling ski gear or catching an early Shinkansen. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and the staff is incredibly professional. The Bad: The breakfast buffet is the biggest letdown. While the quality of the food is fine, the menu is extremely repetitive. If you are staying for...
This hotel is well located besides the Nagano station which is most convenient when outside is snowing. Easy to find shops and eateries.
The most convenient hotel located right next to Nagano Station. The 2nd floor of the hotel is directly connected to the connecting mall leading to the station too. Room is cozy and clean. Check in is easy. Staff are friendly even with limited English they are professional. Managed to have my luggage held in the lobby on checkout as well so that I could explore more on the last day. Nearby are several...
Linked to JR station, super convenient for travellers who are taking public transport. Staff was fluent in English and super friendly. While the hotel looks vintage, it was well maintained and gives off old school vibes. Recommended to stay here for transit!

It’s about 15mins walk from Nagano Station to Hotel, but hotel offer shuttle bus.
Shuttle bus available for transfers. Very close to Zenko-ji Temple. Super convenient.
Shuttle bus service from Nagano Station is a bonus! Close enough to attractions by car, parking is abundant paid 1000yen for 2 days parking. Breakfast spread is pretty good. Only down side is that the hotel is slightly old.
to stay at this hotel was amazing. The staff was super helpful and gave many recommendations. The room was very big and the hotel was in a convenient place.
Thank you for the thoughtful service. The hotel is a bit far from Nagano Station, so I used the shuttle bus. The driver was also very polite and made the ride pleasant. If I have the chance to visit Nagano again, I'd like to stay here. *A special thank you to all the staff at the breakfast buffet.
Everything was good, but the lack of a swimming pool was a major drawback. The shuttle bus to the train station and the partner hot springs was a definite plus.

Really clean and the service is excellent! The hotel is also very kids friendly.
Great location with superb views from the room window. The breakfast and dinner buffet spreads were excellent. Although there is no private shower in the room, the shared shower facilities were clean and well maintained.
Prime hotel that has premium facilities, rooms, onsen and service. The hotel provides shuttle to various ski resorts in the Myoko region and has a good breakfast buffet. The buffet dinner is not very good and relatively over priced for what was served.
The stay was absolutely comfortable. Good onsen and nice breakfast. Bedding was solid as well. The friendly staffs also assisted with restaurantsreservations too.
The rooms were spacious; we booked one Western-style and one Japanese-style room. The hotel's public bath was also very comfortable, and it wasn't crowded during our stay, making it a wonderful place to soak after skiing. The hotel is also not far from the ski resort, about a 10-minute drive away. Overall, the hotel offers excellent value for money.
Nice resort with spacious room and has basic facilities that are well maintained. Staff are all helpful and friendly. Will recommend to friends and family who wish to visit Myoko.

Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint. The rooms are traditional Japanese tatami rooms with futons and low tables, and ours had a private western-style toilet attached (with all the Japanese gadgets that are the norm!). There is no private shower or bath attached to the room, however the main...
Google Maps navigation was inaccurate, constantly changing between front and back streets. It took me 20 minutes and several questions to find the right place. They should change the picture of the main gate and put the sign inside. The heating would automatically turn off. I woke up cold the first night because I had to wait until the next morning to find someone to restart it. They explained it...
Some of the best customer service we've ever experienced. Ms. Abe was wonderful and her English was excellent. The outdoor onsen was perfect, truly beautiful. A big, well landscaped area, truly relaxing. All guests get to reserve 30 minutes of private use each evening, which was wonderful, but you can also go back during men's time, women's time, or mixed if you want to enjoy some more. The breakfast...
We book this ryokan at the end of our stay in Japan, we thought we still have the energy to go to shiga kogen after snow monkey and just sleep at the ryokan, but I was wrong. We are so tired and decided to be at this ryokan the whole stay. Good thing they had reservation for private outdoor onsen for 30mins. Pros: Private outdoor onsen for 30mins by schedule. And the place is perfect, its like the...
The boss's service is very considerate and thoughtful! The room is very clean, the outdoor hot spring, the environment is very good
This traditional Ryokan hotel is a little gem of a place and the family hosts are just wonderful. Had the best night sleep of my 2 week trip to Japan sleeping on Ryokan bed. Rooms and hotel is extremely clean, we had our own toilet and washbasin but you have to share showers which wasn't an issue. The family are so friendly, speak very good English. We stayed for 2 nights at a room without bath. When we arrived we were a bit concerned because it looks old, but after settling in we found this ryokan to be excellent. It's an old building linked with multiple facades and many stairs, but this ryokan has 6 different hotspring baths. All of them are awesome and there is no need to reserve, we tried all 6 of them + the 9 public baths in Shibu Onsen...
food was good and the experience was perfect
Located in the heart of Shibu Onsen, Kokuya is a traditional Japanese inn that has been operating for over 400 years. It's the only inn in the area with its own six different 100% natural hot spring baths, featuring eight public baths and ten rooms with open-air hot springs. It has been passed down through 16 generations. Furthermore, the central area of Shibu Onsen boasts a 1300-year-old hot spring...
The staff could speak English very well and patient to help us with the private onsen bookings. There was also a shuttle bus from Yudanaka station to the hotel. Hotel was located just opposite the photo spot which resembles the one in Spirited Away. Onsen eggs for sale at 100 yen are just outside the hotel. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious too. Love the private onsen too!
This is a very nice, historic hotel in the hot spring town. The hotel facilities are well-maintained, and the meals are plentiful. There are eight hot spring options available on-site, including two outdoor ones, which is fantastic.
Super friendly host, very comfortable, clean and all staff speak English and very kind to foreigners.

The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty. Being so close to the Snow Monkey Park also helped a lot - after spending the day in the cold, it was nice to return to the hotel and warm up.
Going to the monkey park, the hotel offers discounted tickets and free long boot rentals.
This is the best hotel for visiting Jigokudani Monkey Park; you can walk there easily. The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already.
The shuttle service was super convenient, and the location right at the entrance of the Wild Monkey Park is unbeatable. The service was exceptional, and both breakfast and dinner were incredibly generous. So many positives, it's perfect for a short stay.
Exceptional service from staff. Convenient to walk to snow monkey park. Appreciate the shuttle to & from train station
A very Japanese-style hotel with a well-designed room and a terrace offering lovely garden views. Dinner was just okay, but breakfast was quite generous. The private onsen wasn't as good as the public bath! Also, there was no shuttle to Yu no Kuni after 12 PM.

Lunch in the restaurant was nice but nothing to rave about the food for the price, wine was very expensive and not great. Our massage after made up for everything thing though as it was amazing.
This was my second time staying at this hotel. Last time I only stayed one day, this time I stayed two. September is off-season, and booking two days in advance was RMB 500 more expensive than booking separately. This hotel is very weather-sensitive; I recommend canceling if it's cloudy or rainy for several days in a row. On my first day, visibility was very low due to heavy rain, and the fog outside...
This is my favorite hotel, and I think my July stay was my 10th. Because it's far from Tokyo, I usually stay here once or twice a year, but this year I stayed back in June and July. It takes over five hours by car, but when I arrived and took in the views from the lobby, my room, the Aqua Terrace, and the open-air bath, I thought, "Akakura Kanko Hotel is truly amazing." The hotel was clean, and although many of the staff were trainees, they were relatively friendly and I thought it was worth the price. Here are a few things that bothered me: The breakfast buffet at Shirakaba had a variety of options, but none of them were particularly tasty. The French toast, which used to be made to order, was now pre-made, which I didn't feel like eating. This was my first time...
The prices are high, but you always know that it's well worth it. The best is the main building, which gives you a sense of the weight of history. The unobtrusive, unassuming renovation has made it even more comfortable. Dinner at the French restaurant Sorbier is always so appealing that I'm interested. Even if I stay multiple nights, I always end up ordering it here. I'm not sure why the popular consomm...

This traditional Japanese onsen hotel is perfectly located an 8 min walk to the closest ski lift & right by the main street. Breakfast had both Japanese & Westrn options. The pancakes were delicious! Hotel in a small village you can't ask for too much dude
The exterior looks old and dull, but the interior is in good condition, and the lobby is spacious and bright, with a panoramic view of Mt. Madarao. There are ski resorts near the hotel, but they are less challenging and more suitable for families. If you want to try other ski resorts in Myoko City, you'll generally need to drive at least 20 minutes. The hotel is located far from the city center, so driving is the only recommended option. The hotel rooms are of moderate size and have all the basic amenities. The hotel staff are friendly.

Stayed the next day when there was more than 70 cm of snow in 24 hours. I was worried about the road because it was 2WD instead of 4WD, but there was no problem at all because the snow was well removed up to the nearest Sekiyama station. I love this Ryokan. This is the second time we've stayed here. I highly recommend it for the kindness of the owners, the peaceful atmosphere, and the delicious dishes they prepare and present with such care ☺️.
We love this hotel It's a wonderful hotel. Very clean, services were excellent. My family including the kids enjoyed staying thoroughly. Very close to our ski school, easy to find. Highly recommended.
The host family treated us to a delightful Japanese-style breakfast and dinner. I was also particularly impressed by the Japanese-style interior design and the cozy room. The host himself promptly delivered my sunglasses that I left to my new hotel, which I greatly appreciated. Would highly recommend everybody to have a stay here. We really loved our stay here for 5 nights in February. Cozy, friendly and a super well organised set up for skiers and boarders (including arrival pick up and drop off from bus stop). We had a 6 person family traditional room for only 2 of us, so lots of space and the ability to sleep on doubled up futons, which was fine for us. I had a great stay here. Location is great, less than 5 minutes from the Iwatake slopes. They have a ski-in/ski-out facility - a rear door leads to a snow-covered path that leads to the slopes. Tatami beds. Great onsen within the hotel, with indoor and a lovely outdoor bath. Staff are warm and helpful. Would stay again.

3 minutes walk to Iwatake gondola lift. On site dinners are delicious. Onsen is really nice. Facilities are a bit old but well maintained. Staffs are very friendly. Only downside is that there are not many restaurants around here.
The staff seemed to be mostly part-time foreigners; they were very friendly and had a strong service attitude. The facilities include a hot stone sauna and a private hot spring! Check-in and check-out times are really outrageous at this hotel. For what you are paying, I believe, is mainly the hot springs, easy ski rentals (extra fee) and depends if you choose their food or not, but the breakfast is very short time. The Western food and service were both good. However, the kids' menu didn't change much. The Japanese food selection wasn't very extensive.
Awesome resort. Have free refreshments after ski and at night.
The hotel is a bit old and has many rules, and the view is just average. The Japanese restaurant is decent, but the food is nothing special. It's a bit far from the ski resort. The hot springs are nice and clean, though. The facilities could definitely use an upgrade.
The hotel service was great, and the hot springs were fantastic – loved the milk too! The East Wing is more convenient for accessing the public hot springs. However, I have to complain about the restaurant. There was a typo on the menu (appetizer listed as '24mouth' instead of '24month'), and when I kindly pointed it out, they acted as if I was deliberately looking for trouble. The hotel's dining is definitely a highlight, especially dinner, which rivals some Michelin-starred restaurants, featuring a generous use of local ingredients. There were a lot of cookie crumbs under the beds, a lot of hair, and almost 20 ladybugs in the room, especially behind the curtains. Aside from the receptionist's service, the rest of the staff were very attentive.
The hotel offers fridge rental service, and during ski season, there's a free shuttle bus to major ski resorts, making transportation quite convenient. There are three restaurants to choose from within the hotel, but unfortunately, one was under renovation this time. The hotel's hot spring provides a wonderfully relaxing space after a day of skiing.
Hakuba Tokyu Hotel boasts an excellent location, conveniently close to Happo One Ski Resort, with a free shuttle service making it ideal for winter ski trips. The hotel's European castle-style design is grand and impressive, and the rooms are spacious and clean. The public onsen bath is perfect for relaxation, and the breakfast buffet offers a rich and diverse selection. Both the French and Japanese...

Hakuba isn't very big; the town area is just a few streets. The hotel is on a small hill, and there are several other hotels nearby, which provide the lighting for the entire hill. There are no convenience stores nearby. The hotel offers Japanese-style rooms, which I chose. The downside is that you have to make your own bed, which might be too much for older people. There were many elderly people and...
Stayed late June to see the stunning Itawake view. No skiing, just soaking in Hakuba’s nature. Hotel was peaceful, surrounded by trees — perfect for relaxing walks. Staff were friendly and super helpful. Room was clean, a bit small for what we booked. Breakfast was okay, mix of Japanese and Western. The onsen was the real highlight — so refreshing after a day out. Even without snow, Mominoki was a...
We had a wonderful time. Our plans were canceled due to the rain, but the hotel was great. I'd love to stay here again. Thank you for your help.
The room is old, but the ski location is good
I am very satisfied with this hotel, the location is great, the staff is friendly and the room is comfortable. The room was very comfortable in terms of lighting, temperature and bedding. I would especially like to praise the housekeeping sister for keeping the room very clean. The room has two terraces, one of which overlooks the Happo-One Ski Resort. We stayed for six nights and the breakfast food...
The experience was very good, especially the service of the male waiter at the front desk (didn't remember his name), which was very heartwarming. After checking out, we needed to take a taxi to another B&B, but because it happened to be the weekend and the birthday of the king, and it was snowing all the time, the entire Hakuba car resources were in short supply. It was this waiter who insisted on...

The rooms were spacious and connected, and the hotel was surrounded by autumn leaves and greenery, creating a lovely atmosphere when looking out the window. The parking lot was likely to be full, so a staff member offered to take us to a nearby tourist spot.
Our requests were all carefully accommodated, and our stay was pleasant. The breakfast was delicious and had a unique menu that you won't find anywhere else. I also had a great time talking with the owner, and I hope to visit again after the East Wing is renovated.
What a lovely experience at La Neige. Amazing staff and great stay with excellent breakfast. Thank you for the Japanese omotenashi experience.
Fantastic helpful staff, great rooms and beautiful location
The hotel was built in an older era, so the facilities are not comparable to those of newer hotels. However, the sanitation condition is okay, the service is full marks, and the overall stay experience is still very good.
The Shadian building is full of European style. Upon arrival, a hotel attendant will introduce in detail the services provided by the hotel, and provide hot tea and snacks, which is full of ritual and warmth. Although the room is not big, it has a bathtub where you can take a hot bath, which is very comfortable. Since I couldn't catch the free shuttle bus to the ski resort, I returned to the hotel...

Clean, walkable from station (if no rain), spacious rooms, warm service, tasty food. Best was the fantastic roof top onsen view of the mountain town and forests! One of the staff Hoshino-san was helpful with his English & Mandarin translations.
Clean, tidy, and with attentive staff. A genuine hot spring. The food was delicious. They even upgraded our room. Great value for money. Highly recommend staying here.
Nakamatsuya is next to Shimoda. It takes 27 minutes to reach Bessho Onsen on the Bessho Line. Shimoda is a Shinkansen station. The Bessho Line runs about every half an hour. There is a free tour bus from the hotel on Saturdays and Sundays. It takes ten minutes to reach the hotel. If you don't walk uphill towards Guanyin in the north for ten minutes, or call the hotel and say they are at the station...
What a wonderful semi-western Japanese ryokan. We took the little train from Ueda and Nakamatsuya picked us up from the Bessho station for a 3 minute ride. Checked into a front facing room with self-contained private onsen bath. Delicious Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast for our group of 10 friends. All in all, a little jewel, conveniently located in the little quaint village of Bessho...
The people at the inn were very attentive and the atmosphere was very comfortable. The food was also delicious and there was so much we couldn't finish it. It would be nice to stay two or three nights instead of just one and relax. I would definitely use Nakamatsuya again.
A very unique Japanese-style hot spring hotel. The entire building is covered with tatami mats. The open-air hot spring on the seventh floor is great and you can see a lot of stars.

We had a great stay at the Okushiga Phoenix Hotel. The Italian dinner was simply perfect, the onsen was wonderful and relaxing, and the staff were consistently friendly and professional.
If you ski at Okushiga Kogen then you have to stop here. Great service. Awesome public lounge with great views
we had an amazing 5days family stay: the room was spacious for three, the food in both restaurants excellent. being straight in the slope, with a walk-through ski-room is very convenient. in- and outdoor onsen is an oasis of relaxation. provided cosmetics were amazing, i do regret not purchasing some for home after check-out. the swiss/alpine theme has been applied thoroughly, with high quality and...
Great hotel, delicious food, professional and very helpful stuff, great facilities (onsen, pool, sauna, cold bath) and TOP location - ski in/out. We stayed here for 5 nights and will definitely return. Highly recommended!
amazing place to stay for winter, great skiing and snowboarding rental area and great slope, the hotel restaurants are super nice, on the expensive end but worth it! recommend the Japanese restaurant! the hosts are nice and the rooms are very comfortable.
I came from the Snow Monkey Park Senjukaku and took a bus to Okushiga Plateau at the bus station for about 40 minutes. It drove all the way into the depths of the mountains. In the middle, I passed the mountain station where there was a cable car for sightseeing. As I walked further, I saw some dilapidated hotels. I was very worried, but when I reached the end, I could see the hotel. It was in good...

We made the reservation just two days before, so we didn't have high expectations, but the meal was a buffet with local dishes and we were very satisfied! Everyone in the family was happy.
This time, I chose this hotel with the sole purpose of enjoying the hotel. I stayed in a room with an open-air bath and dinner and breakfast included. Sparkling wine was provided in the room, and it was sweet, so even I, who usually don't like wine, enjoyed it very much. The buffet had a wide variety of options, both in the evening and in the morning, and I was very satisfied. The dinner menu featured...
Now Resort was very polite and kind, attentive, greeting, customer service, everything was the best. However, the room I booked through Trip was changed because it was not suitable for families. Children were not allowed. I did book a room for children. I have photos and details. In the end, I paid just under 70,000 yen in addition to the payment to Trip to change the room (;;) The room was very nice...
The hotel is clean and tidy. The hotel has excellent Onsen baths with hot spring water. You can book a separate room with a bath, this is a 24-hour service. The hotel has a shuttle service to the center of Kusatsu. We booked a stay without meals, went to the center. In the rooms they give clothes and slippers in Japanese style
When I arrived, the door was under renovation, but everything else was fine.
Although it is a little far from Yubatake, there are minibuses that shuttle back and forth every 15 minutes. The food is very good, which is a bit unexpected. The hygiene is very good, and the hot springs are both indoors and outdoors, which is a very good experience. The environment is very good. It is very close to Tenguyama Ski Resort. In addition, there are free drinks in the lobby. The hotel's...

It's incredibly spacious and pleasant. Among all the ryokans I've visited, this one is definitely top-notch. The food is delicious and the service is excellent.
I booked the highly-rated Bouun Ryokan three months in advance, supposedly in business for 462 years! The interior decor and tatami rooms were surprisingly new. The room service, the dining environment for dinner, and the exquisite Kaiseki cuisine were all incredibly impressive. We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel uses only the finest Japanese ingredients, and not...
The facilities are up to standard. But the location is a bit far from the centre of the attraction. Need to walk up the slope for getting to the hotel. So rmb to need call shuttle bus to hotel. The overall service met our expectation, but not exceeding. More specifically, other onsen hotel can provide similar service, maybe more.
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious, but the heating was a bit insufficient. The public hot spring was excellent, and the private bath was also good. Dinner was very generous, but breakfast was too simple.
The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, about a 10-minute walk from the bus station. You can call the hotel for a pick-up, as dragging luggage uphill yourself can be a bit strenuous. The room layout is typical for a classic onsen hotel, nothing special but perfectly adequate. We only booked breakfast, and it was surprisingly delicious. Kusatsu truly lives up to its reputation as Japan's best...
