Nagano, 1372-1 Matsushiromachi Nishiderao, 381-1215 Nagano, Prefektura Nagano, Yaponiya (9 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The room was incredibly spacious, offering exceptional value for the price. The hotel maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, which I truly appreciated. While the furniture and carpets show some slight signs of age, the overall comfort remains high. I was impressed by their Zero Waste policy; instead of plastic bottles in the room, they provide glassware and a convenient water dispenser located...
Before booking, I want to give travelers a heads-up about staying in Nagano. Compared to Tokyo, Nagano is much more rural. Local transportation relies heavily on buses, which usually only come about once an hour, and the timetable isn’t always accurate. Also, there are no street lamps around the area near this hotel at night, so definitely bring a good flashlight. If possible, renting a car is highly...
We made use of the 2:20pm free shuttle from Nagano station to the hotel. Head to the east exit of Nagano station, go down to ground level, the shuttle bus will be at stop 34/35. The ride took more than 20 minutes, but we could check-in straightaway when we reached the hotel. Had two cans of Kirin beer as our welcome drinks because I was still Accor silver member when we booked this room. We were assigned...
Stayed at this resort for a few days in first week of January 2026. I would not include it in my top 5 hotels that I stayed in Japan this year. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The resort itself is about a 30 minute taxi ride away from Nagano Station. Uber is not available in Nagano but front desk staff can help youbif you want to book a taxi but this should be done well in advance....
I stayed in this hotel for 6 nights while exploring the nagano region. first the positives:- - great price for the standard of the room. while the decor is dated, everything works, and its relatively clean. - super convenient if you have a car. there was free parking and it is at most 30 mins to 2 hours to most tourist attractions and ski resorts - the reception staff was polite, quite different from...
We had a pleasant stay at Mercure Nagano. The breakfast buffet was impressive, offering an extensive selection of Western and Asian cuisine. I appreciated the complimentary shuttle service from Nagano station to the hotel and back, given its location approximately 15-20 minutes away. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, which had good water pressure. However, we were disappointed to find that...

Hotel’s great with best location and convenient .
Location: It's super convenient, directly connected to the mall and Nagano Station from the 2nd floor. Facilities: The hotel is a bit old, but it's very clean and spacious, so it felt quite good. I bought some Nagano apples (pretty average) and discounted sushi from the supermarket on the first floor of the mall, and had a DIY dinner at the hotel, hehe 😁
The Good: You cannot beat the location. Being directly connected to Nagano Station is a total game-changer, especially if you’re hauling ski gear or catching an early Shinkansen. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and the staff is incredibly professional. The Bad: The breakfast buffet is the biggest letdown. While the quality of the food is fine, the menu is extremely repetitive. If you are staying for...
This hotel is well located besides the Nagano station which is most convenient when outside is snowing. Easy to find shops and eateries.
The most convenient hotel located right next to Nagano Station. The 2nd floor of the hotel is directly connected to the connecting mall leading to the station too. Room is cozy and clean. Check in is easy. Staff are friendly even with limited English they are professional. Managed to have my luggage held in the lobby on checkout as well so that I could explore more on the last day. Nearby are several...
Linked to JR station, super convenient for travellers who are taking public transport. Staff was fluent in English and super friendly. While the hotel looks vintage, it was well maintained and gives off old school vibes. Recommended to stay here for transit!

Tawaraya is a very nice Ryokan and Onsen in the small town of Yudanaka. While not very distinctive from the outside, the interior is very quaint. The rooms are traditional Japanese tatami rooms with futons and low tables, and ours had a private western-style toilet attached (with all the Japanese gadgets that are the norm!). There is no private shower or bath attached to the room, however the main...
Google Maps navigation was inaccurate, constantly changing between front and back streets. It took me 20 minutes and several questions to find the right place. They should change the picture of the main gate and put the sign inside. The heating would automatically turn off. I woke up cold the first night because I had to wait until the next morning to find someone to restart it. They explained it...
Some of the best customer service we've ever experienced. Ms. Abe was wonderful and her English was excellent. The outdoor onsen was perfect, truly beautiful. A big, well landscaped area, truly relaxing. All guests get to reserve 30 minutes of private use each evening, which was wonderful, but you can also go back during men's time, women's time, or mixed if you want to enjoy some more. The breakfast...
We book this ryokan at the end of our stay in Japan, we thought we still have the energy to go to shiga kogen after snow monkey and just sleep at the ryokan, but I was wrong. We are so tired and decided to be at this ryokan the whole stay. Good thing they had reservation for private outdoor onsen for 30mins. Pros: Private outdoor onsen for 30mins by schedule. And the place is perfect, its like the...
The boss's service is very considerate and thoughtful! The room is very clean, the outdoor hot spring, the environment is very good
This traditional Ryokan hotel is a little gem of a place and the family hosts are just wonderful. Had the best night sleep of my 2 week trip to Japan sleeping on Ryokan bed. Rooms and hotel is extremely clean, we had our own toilet and washbasin but you have to share showers which wasn't an issue. The family are so friendly, speak very good English. We stayed for 2 nights at a room without bath. When we arrived we were a bit concerned because it looks old, but after settling in we found this ryokan to be excellent. It's an old building linked with multiple facades and many stairs, but this ryokan has 6 different hotspring baths. All of them are awesome and there is no need to reserve, we tried all 6 of them + the 9 public baths in Shibu Onsen...
food was good and the experience was perfect
Located in the heart of Shibu Onsen, Kokuya is a traditional Japanese inn that has been operating for over 400 years. It's the only inn in the area with its own six different 100% natural hot spring baths, featuring eight public baths and ten rooms with open-air hot springs. It has been passed down through 16 generations. Furthermore, the central area of Shibu Onsen boasts a 1300-year-old hot spring...
The staff could speak English very well and patient to help us with the private onsen bookings. There was also a shuttle bus from Yudanaka station to the hotel. Hotel was located just opposite the photo spot which resembles the one in Spirited Away. Onsen eggs for sale at 100 yen are just outside the hotel. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious too. Love the private onsen too!
This is a very nice, historic hotel in the hot spring town. The hotel facilities are well-maintained, and the meals are plentiful. There are eight hot spring options available on-site, including two outdoor ones, which is fantastic.
Super friendly host, very comfortable, clean and all staff speak English and very kind to foreigners.

Awesome location for visiting Jigokudani Park (snow monkeys in hot springs) but otherwise isolated. The room was very spacious, especially considering i was a solo traveler. The private onsen attached to the room was unexpected and must appreciated. The food was the highlight of my 2 night stay. I'd been to other food forward ryokans elsewhere before and while they were fancier, the food at Jinpyokaku...
An atmospheric old inn of great charm! My room was a comfortable, well maintained and had great style. I loved the private onsen bath. Dinner and breakfast were a real highlight with a mix of local beef specialties cooked at the table and delicious vegetable dishes. Did I mention drinks are free? How civilised is that? Finally, I found the staff an absolute delight. Helpful, considerate and most thoughtful...
My husband and I stayed here 4 nights for our honeymoon, and we are so glad we did. The stay includes a private kaiseki dining experience for breakfast and dinner. The food was locally sourced and fresh, and they were able to accommodate a pescatarian diet. I can’t speak highly enough of the service- they went above and beyond to make everything perfect, and the care they put into each dining experience...
I had an excellent two-night stay here and would highly recommend it. The service was genuinely outstanding—some of the best I’ve experienced. When a taxi booking to Shiga Kogen fell through due to heavy snow, the owner personally drove me there, which I deeply appreciated. He also printed out the bus schedule and made sure I knew exactly how to get back. That level of care really stood out. The...
Tradional ryoken with onsen, right near snow monkey park. The people running this place are nicest and most helpful people. They were welcoming and really elevated our stay. The rooms were warm and confortable. The onsen was relaxing. The ambience of the entire place was just right. Would heartily reccomend.

The hotel room was much bigger than expected. The service was excellent and the Japanese breakfast was most tasty. Being so close to the Snow Monkey Park also helped a lot - after spending the day in the cold, it was nice to return to the hotel and warm up.
Going to the monkey park, the hotel offers discounted tickets and free long boot rentals.
This is the best hotel for visiting Jigokudani Monkey Park; you can walk there easily. The facilities are a bit dated, but considering I've stayed here multiple times across two generations, it maintains a certain standard. Plus, there's a fantastic indoor heated pool. I've stayed here twice already.
The shuttle service was super convenient, and the location right at the entrance of the Wild Monkey Park is unbeatable. The service was exceptional, and both breakfast and dinner were incredibly generous. So many positives, it's perfect for a short stay.
Exceptional service from staff. Convenient to walk to snow monkey park. Appreciate the shuttle to & from train station
A very Japanese-style hotel with a well-designed room and a terrace offering lovely garden views. Dinner was just okay, but breakfast was quite generous. The private onsen wasn't as good as the public bath! Also, there was no shuttle to Yu no Kuni after 12 PM.

Lunch in the restaurant was nice but nothing to rave about the food for the price, wine was very expensive and not great. Our massage after made up for everything thing though as it was amazing.
This was my second time staying at this hotel. Last time I only stayed one day, this time I stayed two. September is off-season, and booking two days in advance was RMB 500 more expensive than booking separately. This hotel is very weather-sensitive; I recommend canceling if it's cloudy or rainy for several days in a row. On my first day, visibility was very low due to heavy rain, and the fog outside...
This is my favorite hotel, and I think my July stay was my 10th. Because it's far from Tokyo, I usually stay here once or twice a year, but this year I stayed back in June and July. It takes over five hours by car, but when I arrived and took in the views from the lobby, my room, the Aqua Terrace, and the open-air bath, I thought, "Akakura Kanko Hotel is truly amazing." I ate Japanese food at Aqua...
The hotel was clean, and although many of the staff were trainees, they were relatively friendly and I thought it was worth the price. Here are a few things that bothered me: The breakfast buffet at Shirakaba had a variety of options, but none of them were particularly tasty. The French toast, which used to be made to order, was now pre-made, which I didn't feel like eating. This was my first time...
The prices are high, but you always know that it's well worth it. The best is the main building, which gives you a sense of the weight of history. The unobtrusive, unassuming renovation has made it even more comfortable. Dinner at the French restaurant Sorbier is always so appealing that I'm interested. Even if I stay multiple nights, I always end up ordering it here. I'm not sure why the popular consomm...

Front service particularly senior ones are not friendly. It’s far from lift place. Not a ski in and out place. Plus you can’t use lift to store your boards. You have to wear boots to walk down and up two floors. Surely not convenient. BTW food is bad.
Hotel is old, there was signs of termite infection that was cleared. Food was ok. Service was excellent, really everyone there was very helpful! Good location 300m to ski chairs.
Service oriented hotel with friendly staff and ski in ski out options to the highest mountain in Nagano (also has a ski/snowboard school with kind boss) Breakfast and Dinner options were plentiful and varied spread which is a better option for room with meals options as there isn’t much open by 5pm in the vicinity. Actually didn’t went here but we requested for a cancellation twice and the hotel didn’t get back to us.
We really loved our stay here for 5 nights in February. Cozy, friendly and a super well organised set up for skiers and boarders (including arrival pick up and drop off from bus stop). We had a 6 person family traditional room for only 2 of us, so lots of space and the ability to sleep on doubled up futons, which was fine for us. Our western frames aren't made for easily getting up and down on the...
I had a great stay here. Location is great, less than 5 minutes from the Iwatake slopes. They have a ski-in/ski-out facility - a rear door leads to a snow-covered path that leads to the slopes. Tatami beds. Great onsen within the hotel, with indoor and a lovely outdoor bath. Staff are warm and helpful. Would stay again.
Fantastic location, 3 minute walk to Iwatake ski fields, rooms and facilities are clean and tidy, staff are phenomenal so friendly and accommodating 👌🏼
3 minutes walk to Iwatake gondola lift. On site dinners are delicious. Onsen is really nice. Facilities are a bit old but well maintained. Staffs are very friendly. Only downside is that there are not many restaurants around here.
The staff seemed to be mostly part-time foreigners; they were very friendly and had a strong service attitude. The facilities include a hot stone sauna and a private hot spring! It was very relaxing to rest and rejuvenate after skiing! Although the location is a bit inconvenient for those without a car, there are plenty of places to eat nearby, including a small cafe. Check-in and check-out times are really outrageous at this hotel. For what you are paying, I believe, is mainly the hot springs, easy ski rentals (extra fee) and depends if you choose their food or not, but the breakfast is very short time. The Western food and service were both good. However, the kids' menu didn't change much. The Japanese food selection wasn't very extensive.
Awesome resort. Have free refreshments after ski and at night.
The hotel is a bit old and has many rules, and the view is just average. The Japanese restaurant is decent, but the food is nothing special. It's a bit far from the ski resort. The hot springs are nice and clean, though. The facilities could definitely use an upgrade.
The hotel service was great, and the hot springs were fantastic – loved the milk too! The East Wing is more convenient for accessing the public hot springs. However, I have to complain about the restaurant. There was a typo on the menu (appetizer listed as '24mouth' instead of '24month'), and when I kindly pointed it out, they acted as if I was deliberately looking for trouble. The shrimp on the second...
The hotel's dining is definitely a highlight, especially dinner, which rivals some Michelin-starred restaurants, featuring a generous use of local ingredients. Excellent and cozy hotel. However, the receptionist's service was a bit gruff, and my room was dirty. Now Resort was very polite and kind, attentive, greeting, customer service, everything was the best. However, the room I booked through Trip was changed because it was not suitable for families. Children were not allowed. I did book a room for children. I have photos and details. In the end, I paid just under 70,000 yen in addition to the payment to Trip to change the room (;;) The room was very nice...
The hotel is clean and tidy. The hotel has excellent Onsen baths with hot spring water. You can book a separate room with a bath, this is a 24-hour service. The hotel has a shuttle service to the center of Kusatsu. We booked a stay without meals, went to the center. In the rooms they give clothes and slippers in Japanese style
When I arrived, the door was under renovation, but everything else was fine.
Although it is a little far from Yubatake, there are minibuses that shuttle back and forth every 15 minutes. The food is very good, which is a bit unexpected. The hygiene is very good, and the hot springs are both indoors and outdoors, which is a very good experience. The environment is very good. It is very close to Tenguyama Ski Resort. In addition, there are free drinks in the lobby. The hotel's...

It's incredibly spacious and pleasant. Among all the ryokans I've visited, this one is definitely top-notch. The food is delicious and the service is excellent.
I booked the highly-rated Bouun Ryokan three months in advance, supposedly in business for 462 years! The interior decor and tatami rooms were surprisingly new. The room service, the dining environment for dinner, and the exquisite Kaiseki cuisine were all incredibly impressive. We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel uses only the finest Japanese ingredients, and not...
The facilities are up to standard. But the location is a bit far from the centre of the attraction. Need to walk up the slope for getting to the hotel. So rmb to need call shuttle bus to hotel. The overall service met our expectation, but not exceeding. More specifically, other onsen hotel can provide similar service, maybe more.
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious, but the heating was a bit insufficient. The public hot spring was excellent, and the private bath was also good. Dinner was very generous, but breakfast was too simple.
The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, about a 10-minute walk from the bus station. You can call the hotel for a pick-up, as dragging luggage uphill yourself can be a bit strenuous. The room layout is typical for a classic onsen hotel, nothing special but perfectly adequate. We only booked breakfast, and it was surprisingly delicious. Kusatsu truly lives up to its reputation as Japan's best...

Very impressed, everything was prepared in the room, and there were also things provided, very good value.
Driving is difficult, so I recommend other forms of transportation. We booked a suite, which was very spacious and perfect for a large group.
We stayed 2 nights in this hotel and had a fantastic time. Great location, right in the center of town and 3 minutes from the bus station. Very clean, confortable beds, and the onsen is perfect too. The lady who run the place is super nice and full of great tips and idea for things to do. Highly recommended and would definitely stay there again.
Great location, just off the main road. About 10 mins walk to travelator. We stored rental skis and boots at rental shop at top of travelator. We had a western room with 6 beds and kitchen. Can fill in a form to have groceries delivered. Kitchen worked well. Staff very helpful. Drop one star in the room due to echoing noise. Free washing machine and dryer. 2x Private onsen. Drying room and ski room
Great place to stay. Right at the center of the village. 10 minutes from gondola and 5 minutes from bus station. There's an indoor onsen 24 hours. The rooms are cozy, warm, comfortable, and clean. There is a small kitchen, a fridge, and a nespresso machine. Each room has also a TV with Apple TV! Highly recommended!
Great accommodation. Friendly staff. Kitchen in the room. The TV also had and Apple TV box that allowed me to surf the net and watch a lot of things. The hotel is 3m from the bus stop and 7mins from the slopes. Really good

This is the highlight of our trip in Japan. The food, service, cleanliness, location, room and the access to the loungue is just perfect. It was hard to leave this hotel at the end of our trip.
We enjoyed the inclusive services a lot. The private onsens were amazing and our room had a very great view.
Nice room and onsen bothe private and in room, enjoy stay and Kusatsu atmosphere.
Free beer, soup, ramen, private onsen!
Highly recommended. Definitely worth the money. (Free) shuttle service from/to Karuizawa saved us much time. All the onsens (including the one inside the room) are enjoyable. Definitely will visit again.

Loved the hotel and onsen Loved the food and staff Perfect location Authentic Japanese hotel
Everything about this hotel was perfect, except for its location being a bit far from the ski lifts. I mainly chose this hotel because it's one of the few in Nozawa Onsen with private bathrooms. The dinners were incredibly generous every night. The room temperature was just right, heated by AC but never cold. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Best hotel ever, highly recommend to all friends, especially for the families with kids, child friendly!
I feel like we got the best surprise as I was unsure what we were expecting. The room space is cozy but just enough for a family. The service is exceptional, the staff are friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast is really good and dinner was exceptional with many courses and changing everyday.
We had a great experience here. It's a long walk to the slopes, but we knew that before we arrived. The staff were friendly and helpful, our Japanese style room was spacious and comfortable.
This hotel delivers everything you want from a family holiday. Although it is situated away from the centre of the village, we found this to be an advantage for our family, preferring a quiet location. Only 5 mins walk to the Chuo main terminal, where you can catch the free local shuttle bus to the ski fields. Getting to the hotel from Iiyama station was also easy via Nagaden Bus No.9 from bus stop...

excellent services, great food and great onsen. Very large room, staff are friendly.
Le Grand Karuizawa Hotel & Resort is a perfect place for great views, relaxation and luxury retreat. We stayed on the top of the resort where the view of the Asama Mountain is breathtaking. The room is spacious but cozy. The dinners were very good. We stayed two nights (half board), the two fine-dining French dinners with local ingredients we had were superb. The courses served at the dinners didn...
Highly recommend! This is the best hotel in Karuizawa. The hotel has a very understated European style, and it took me quite a while to find the lobby. 😂😂😂 The room is huge; for this price point, it might just be the biggest room in all of Japan. The hotel is famous for its Western cuisine. Dinner and breakfast for three people only cost a little over 5000 RMB. If I ever come back to Karuizawa...
Fantastic resort with western artistic style. Location a bit far but that’s the purpose of a resort! Nice views from the hotel and gorgeous photo taking spots. Onsen also not bad
I stay at this hotel every year. It has a traditional, old-world feel, with a quiet, private atmosphere. The hotel restaurant serves French cuisine, but reservations are required. There are two hot springs, both with their own unique charm.
There maybe BED BUGS, My back was pinched several times during the stay.
