I stayed there during my first trip to Kusatsu. It was a quiet place, like an old inn. The food was delicious and thoughtfully crafted. Above all, the hot spring was the best. I enjoyed Kusatsu Onsen on a charter, probably because I left early in the morning. It was so nice to see the sunlight streaming through the trees through the window. When I go to Kusatsu, I want to stay there again.

It's incredibly spacious and pleasant. Among all the ryokans I've visited, this one is definitely top-notch. The food is delicious and the service is excellent.

I booked the highly-rated Bouun Ryokan three months in advance, supposedly in business for 462 years! The interior decor and tatami rooms were surprisingly new. The room service, the dining environment for dinner, and the exquisite Kaiseki cuisine were all incredibly impressive. We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel uses only the finest Japanese ingredients, and not a single dish or dessert was repeated.

I especially want to commend the Japanese gentleman who picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, and the young lady who helped us with our luggage on check-in day, January 5th. Both were exceptionally thoughtful. However, I must criticize a young male receptionist at the front desk – fair-skinned, round-faced, and wearing glasses. He didn't seem Japanese and was very impatient with guests. A high-end hotel like this shouldn't have such staff; it really detracts from the experience! Nevertheless, this won't stop me from staying here again on my next visit to Kusatsu.

The facilities are up to standard. But the location is a bit far from the centre of the attraction. Need to walk up the slope for getting to the hotel. So rmb to need call shuttle bus to hotel. The overall service met our expectation, but not exceeding. More specifically, other onsen hotel can provide similar service, maybe more.

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious, but the heating was a bit insufficient. The public hot spring was excellent, and the private bath was also good. Dinner was very generous, but breakfast was too simple.

The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, about a 10-minute walk from the bus station. You can call the hotel for a pick-up, as dragging luggage uphill yourself can be a bit strenuous. The room layout is typical for a classic onsen hotel, nothing special but perfectly adequate. We only booked breakfast, and it was surprisingly delicious. Kusatsu truly lives up to its reputation as Japan's best onsen; the Yubatake's steaming mist makes for a very romantic experience, especially in winter.

Beautiful and unforgettable experience, highly recommend. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. It is really cozy and warm inside. Also the baths are great and there is enough space.

Such a flawless experience for osen and meals. Osen water is No.1 quality. The dinner and breakfast just AMAZING! All the food are from local ingredients. They are not only healthy and tasty, but also they are just like an art piece that made by the chef. The beds are just perfect and so comfy. The free pick up and drop off from bus terminal is the life saver. Kudos to the team and thank you so much for this amazing hospitality. We had a wonderful time in hear and hoping to come back to Kusatsu again with this hotel!

One of the more superior ryokans we stayed in. Awesome onsen, both indoors and outdoors, with excellent service from all staff. Upon entering the car park, staff will come with umbrellas to help with luggage and it was a very very light drizzle. We had dinner in the room and breakfast in the common area but still segregated for privacy. The food was delicious- we had wagyu and enjoyed it very much. When we left, the owner’s daughter was sending us off at the entrance. 100% would return for another stay if we venture to Kusatsu onsen again.
