I'm glad I came across this exceptional hotel while planning my trip. It's a stylish and unique hotspot. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Ōtsu, and still don't know completely, but this hotel was definitely a highlight. Warm welcome with tea and ice. The room had a beautiful design; a blend of retro '70s vibe and a traditional Japanese house, fully modernized. The breakfast was exceptional. Delicious. There was also a lounge with great coffee, drinks and snacks. Compliments to the team. Highly recommended.

The hiking above Mii Dera temple was amazing. A lot of hiking options for outdoor enthusiasts. The Mii Dera temple is also not crowded and a joy to stroll around 20 minutes walk from hotel koo.

I stayed at the Chaya house which was absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly friendly and a joy to speak with. Otsu is a smaller quiet town with lots of character and friendly residents. I highly recommend checking out the local Izakayas and cafes for an equally excellent experience.

We loved our stay at hotel koo. It was the perfect combination between japanese traditional house and modern scandinave touch. We felt so at peace in this room, a perfect moment of relaxation. Bed was really confortable and the room so big. The staff were super welcoming and it’s nice to have free homemade snacks and drinks. I definitely recommend this hotel to design lovers

My husband and my experience here was absolutely incredible! The facility in the main area and our room was wonderfully lovely and high quality. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly. We celebrated my husband's birthday here and everything was perfect!

In 2 words: simply amazing. We stayed here for 1 night, perfect to get away from the hustle & bustle of the big cities. Within easy reach by public transportation from Kyoto (20min by train) or even Osaka, I would definitely recommend this place. The smaller city is quaint with some traditional parts. The nearby mountains, reachable with the cable car, are beautiful & I’d definitely recommend seeing the temples / shrines - much less crowded so it feels more authentic. The hotel staff is extremely friendly, the walking tour (though we did not walk much) was nice & we learned some interesting facts about typical architecture. The hotel itself feels very traditional but with some modern touch. 2 words to describe how you feel when you enter the hotel: zen, peaceful. It was the highlight of my trip.

Amazing stay!
An incredibly well designed hotel! It's modern and yet full of history of Otsu. Certainly a hidden gem. The staff is welcoming and helpful. Not to be missed is their guided tour by the hotel staff. We love hearing the stories and the neighbourhood eating places are simply amazing!! We'll surely come back again. Thanks for making our stay a truly memorable one.

We traveled to Otsu on a whim and chose Hotel Koo because we wanted to experience what it was like to stay in a traditional Japanese home. This did not disappoint- the accommodations we beautiful, serene and unusual. The town of Otsu is very quiet, but the people are amazing and the walkability down to Lake Biwa is great.
