The location is great! The wifi was problematic though...we ended up using our own sim cards. Facilties are a bit old, especially the heating. There's only 4 settings, not like an aircon remote. But otherwise beds are comfy and there was sufficient space for luggages.

This was a love hotel, decorated in a Showa-era style. Check-in was at 5 PM, which was quite late, but the staff were very kind and attentive. So I left my luggage there and continued sightseeing. When I returned to the hotel that night, I was shocked! The room reeked of cigarette smoke, which was disgusting. This is a love hotel. It has all the necessities, bed, bath and toilet. Unfortunately the hotel has a very dated feel, lighting ,carpet and wall show its age. The hotel is located right outside the Otsu Station ticket gates. Entering the property is through the attached bar and restaurant. Most of the nearby restaurants seem to close around 11pm. There are no cooking utensils, but you can bring your own food and drink in the common areas. There are also pots and water dispensers, so we were able to eat cup ramen inside the hotel.

We were so impressed about many things in this hostel. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and were tended to daily by housekeeping. The beds themselves had privacy screens and the bedding was a good weight for the summer. The dorm rooms were air conditioned at night so sleep was comfortable. The guesthouse faces a busy street so there is some Noise but generally the streets quiet down at night...

Clean, the dormitory of 4 was connected to the private bathroom and shower. Easily, by far, the best experience in Japan of 3 hostels. And the best part is the staff members, everyone has been so welcoming and showed kindness. Totally recommend! Also the Japanese breakfast was very very good.

This hostel is conveniently located near Kyoto University. The hosts were kind and it was a comfortable place to live. There are no washing machines, but there are several within a 15-minute walk, so that was fine. It's also close to the Philosopher's Path, so I took a short walk there every morning before going to work!

I didn't stay because of schedule changes. But since there is no refund plan, even if it was confirmed two weeks ago that I couldn't stay, the room would have to be left empty. I knew this before I made the reservation, so I accepted it. I just really think it's a pity for me, potential guests, and the landlord.
