Kyoto, 15 Nishi-Iwamotocho, Higashi-kujo (60 min from centre) 🧭 Map
Good overall, however a few bits with the room. There is no mirror that we found in the room outside of the bathroom, there is also a window that we couldn’t see a way of blocking out light (no curtain). The hotel was also quite loud overnight, but probably expected due to the location. Not far at all from the station which is really handy. Good value for money.
The staff went above and beyond to help us. We were shocked by the lengths they went to ensure orur comfortability. I would have expected this kind of service from a 5 star hotel. Big shoutout to the staff working in nightshift 5th November. He helped with so many questions. Thanks again and highly recommended.
Basic hotel but the service and cleanliness of this hotel is beyond basic. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. The hotel looks newly renovated and well-maintained. The room is good sized, private and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Very convenient as Kyoto station is about a 10-15mins walk away. It can be a little inconvenient to push your luggages to and from the train...
Rooms are spacious and clean. The location is great, it’s only a few blocks away from Kyoto station! The staff is very friendly too, and speak English which is a plus
A very good experience. The reception is present till 24 00, so we had no problem with a late check in. Very nice staff, they answered all our questions about moving around Kyoto and where to rent bikes.
We did not have breakfast because we did not want to, so I cannot say anything about it.
The room was super clean and had all facilities we needed. The bed was comfy. GREAT STAY OVERALL!!!
This is a budget hotel so manage your expectations on that.
Reception is welcoming and modern. Staff are very helpful and polite. Will hold your baggage free before check in time if you arrive early.
Room has everything it should. Comfy bed, shower, toilet, TV, kettle and hairdryer. I didn't find myself needing anything else. The location is brilliant. Very near Kyoto station and central Kyoto nightlife...

The hotel's location is fantastic! It's just a 5-minute walk from the subway station and right in a lively residential area. Eating and shopping are incredibly convenient, and it's even within walking distance to several attractions!
Everything in Japan gets more expensive around New Year's, and this hotel was no exception. It has a really cool, stylish design, which I loved! However, it's right next to a cemetery. So, if that's something that bothers you, you might want to reconsider. Overall though, it was a very good stay.
This hotel boasts an excellent location, making it incredibly convenient for getting around, shopping, and running errands. The surrounding amenities are comprehensive, and transportation is hassle-free. The breakfast selection is extensive, offering both Western and Chinese options that are fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The room was clean and tidy, and the service was warm and attentive. This hotel is in a great location nearly next to Nishiki Market. Around the hotel is very quiet.
The room we received was facing the graveyard, I’m not sure why there are so many negatives reviews about it but we had no problems with it. No ****** visited us😋😅
The bed was very spacious but a little hard. The pillows were also quite hard so we woke up sore a few times… overall the room was very...
Hotel is clear and close to city centre. Room size is good and large.
Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Mitsui. It’s right in the middle o the bustling city yet the surrounding area has a somewhat more laidback vibe. Breakfast is superb, the onsen is very relaxing, our room was tastefully designed and spacious enough for two. We joined in the early morning temple ritual that cleared our headspace and given us spiritual grounding..This is now one of my best kept secret when...

The hotel is very close to the Kamo River, and it's conveniently located on a main road, making it easy to get to the bustling commercial area. The facilities are relatively new and pleasant to look at. However, the dinner for the hotel's 'one night, two meals' plan was too small; we had to order extra dishes to feel full! Overall, we were quite satisfied!
Comfy stay and simple breakfast
This hotel exceeded all my expectations. The atmosphere was elegant and relaxing, making it a perfect place to unwind. The rooms were spotlessly clean, beautifully designed, and very comfortable.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional, always ready to help with a warm smile. The location is also very convenient, with easy access to transportation and nearby attractions.

The hotel boasts an excellent location, offering convenient transportation with a subway station and Kamo River just a few minutes' walk away. There's a convenience store right opposite the hotel, and Goryo and Takashimaya department store are within walking distance for easy shopping.
Very convenient in Kyoto, with Japanese tatami chairs.
Good service, got check in cookies, good room with nice view, and got free access 24/7 gym. Nice.

The hotel entrance is located on a small street off the main Kawaramachi road. The location is incredibly convenient; it's just a five-minute walk to Fujii Daimaru and Takashimaya. If you're coming from Osaka, you can get off at Karasuma Station and use the underground passage.
The location is excellent. There's a bar where you can exchange tokens for free drinks. The hot spring bath is also complimentary, which makes it good value for money.
Best hotel stayed in this Japan trip!
Free coffee and refill drinking water in the lobby area at level 2
Given 4 coins total for 2 night stays to redeem drinks (wine, beer, sake, non alcoholic drink) at a bar
Front counter staffs are friendly and can request to borrow umbrella on rainy days
Shower is great too!
Extremely satisfied! It's perfect for family trips, with a very convenient location that offers easy access to both bus and subway. The hotel also provides complimentary soft drinks, which can be redeemed using special tokens given by the hotel.

We wanted a hotel in Gion with a public bath/onsen and Kyoto Granbell fit the bill. Originally we booked a moderate twin 18m2 but I was worried it would be too small so we upgraded to the Japanese twin 22sq meters and it was exactly what we wanted. The room was spacious and felt very comfortable. We had enough room to spread out and it feel like we were on top of each other. The lobby area is great...
Nicely designed boutique hotel. Cannot comment on the food as we didn’t take this option but room was clean and practically designed. Staff very professional and friendly. Located well for good restaurant choices.
The room is on the smaller side, but the bed is incredibly comfortable. The breakfast offers a great variety, and the lobby lounge area is very cozy. Plus, there's a hot spring on B1 which, though not huge, is wonderfully relaxing. The location is super convenient for getting around, with easy access to transport and plenty of dining options nearby.
Love how it is located nearby Gion and tourist area.
The hotel is beautiful and well located, public bathroom issues also great. Staffs are super friendly and helpful.
On the other side, room is too small. Automatic toilet has very bad smell and cannot get rid of that smell. Drying machines at the laundry are super dirty, after washing and drying, tons of dust on my clothes.
Right in Gion! Very convenient:)
Loved the huge bed! This bed is probably the biggest I’ve seen in Japan 😂
Room was sufficient, they provided everything we needed, spacious enough to open two suitcases.
The hotel provides snacks and coffee at the lobby. Nice!

Fantastic service. Fantastic views. Great rooms.
Beautiful clean hotel with spacious room, they’ve got free activity at the guest lounge too - got to meet cute maikos (geisha in training)
The environment is nice and the location is very convenient. The only downside is that the bar was closed.
Excellent value for money. Great location. The service was attentive and I felt a warm welcome everywhere. Especially loved the lounge, with food, drinks, and even a geisha performance. Fantastic!
The hotel itself is absolutely amazing, beautiful architecture and killer view. Very dedicated and hospitable staff. Love the experience here.

The facilities are a bit dated, but the environment is nice, the room is spacious, and the breakfast tastes great.
We appreciated that the hotel provides complimentary pick-up and drop-off service to the nearest subway station between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
Breakfast is served in traditional Japanese style, featuring rice, grilled fish, eggs, and some vegetables. Coffee is not included and must be purchased separately from the hotel’s café.

Good foods and excellent view.
service is not detailed, , no coffee to be provided for breakfast, room is old, food is so so, hot spring is good, spacious outdoor
The free call service from the station is very convenient for travellers who come to stay but not driving. Both the breakfasts and dinners are excellent. The in-room onsen with jacuzzi and the beautiful landscape is spectacular. The public onsen is also clean and well maintained.
The only flaw is tv in the room is rather old and would appreciate an upgrade.n
The hotel is slightly dated but has a strong Japanese aesthetic—stepping inside feels like entering a novel, reminiscent of a quiet rendezvous setting. A very comfortable and pleasant experience. The room was great and spacious, and the service was excellent. The breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious. Most importantly, the location was superb, very close to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sannenzaka-Ninenzaka.
Very nice and friendly service great experience
Great stay and location with the friendliest hotel employees. The amenities provided were excellent and loads of freebies for guests. Great for those who are looking for a hybrid modern feel of hotel mixed with ryokan.
The breakfast sets were different every day, which was a pleasant surprise! It's a shame I didn't book dinner, I'm sure it would have been amazing.

Very rare experience to stay in a designer decorative room. Walking distance to the busy city centre too. Only down side is the size, not suitable if you have big luggages.
The location is excellent, about a 5-minute walk from the Shijo Kawaramachi intersection. There's a 7-Eleven right at the corner downstairs, and a FamilyMart within two minutes. The room is quite large; even with two suitcases fully open, it doesn't cause any problems. As an art gallery-style hotel, you should definitely choose a room with a style you like, otherwise it might affect your sleep. There...
Very wonderful staff. Our original room was double booked so they accommodated us very well by giving us their suite on the second night of our stay. The experience of each room was quite magical. I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again.
We really loved the hotel! We stayed from August 31st to September 7th, 2025. The rooms are spacious. We had a room with TVs, but I could see other rooms from the hallway. 😁 If you choose a random room, don't worry, they're all nice. The website doesn't have all the photos, but some are really interesting. The hotel is trendy and youthful. They provided an iron and extra toiletries—washcloths, lotions...
Clean, the overall design is novel, the owner must be an artist.
The hotel is very unique , it has exhibits in each room which is very unique but eats up a lot of space in the room. So the room feels cramped . There’s no space to walk and open bags not unless it’s a big room.

Outstanding traditional hotel within which to feel the Kyoto vibe. Extremely friendly staff and well appointed rooms
A fantastic hotel, a small-scale luxury hotel under the SLH brand, where you can experience the exquisite service of Japan. Each room has a slightly different style and view. We stayed at Gion Kyoka in Kyoto in late January 2026 and had a wonderful experience. Advantages: clean, large space, good bedding, good service attitude, and daily bed service and towel change.
Disadvantages: The bathroom has no heating, the hot water is not hot enough, and you won’t want to take a bath in the winter... Banda Down the beat hotel ever. Traditional interior and breakfast truly are the most marvelous experience you can ever wish for. The stuff is very kind and helpful. Everyone should stay in a Ryokan at least once in their lives.
The hotel rooms are generally too small and compact. There is a local cemetery behind it. It is not recommended to stay there. It is also difficult to find. It is located in a small alley with poor signage. It is not recommended to stay there.
Communication was effortless as all staff members spoke excellent English. The location is truly unbeatable; Yasaka Shrine (under a 5-minute walk), Hokanji Temple (10-minute walk), and Kodai-ji Temple are all within easy walking distance. This is a fantastic hotel, hard to find, but worth the effort. The room is Japanese-style, with a nice wooden bathtub and tatami flooring. A really nice boutique hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, yet still easy to walk to many attractions or hop on a nearby train. The rooms are very large for Kyoto standards and the bathrooms are especially nice.

A very nice hotel. They offer coffee, tea, snacks, and free drinks from the refrigerator, which is great. The rooms have onsen (hot spring) access. Highly recommended!
The place was clean, the environment was comfortable and quiet, and the children had a great time cooking.
Great hotel. Service was great. We booked the rooftop sauna one night... It was totally worth it. There's a dome with heated rocks you pour water over to get steamy. There's also a cold bath. We were switching back and forth between the two which felt great. It's got decent views of the city.

If you are looking for a traditional ryokan stay, I cannot recommend Yuzuya more. The secret bonus to the stay was having access to a private bath area, which you have to reserve ahead of time, with giant bath tub to enjoy with your partner...
Compared with the Japanese inns I stayed in before the epidemic, it lacks charm, the environment is average, the service is just worse than others, there is no bed-making service, no dinner is provided, and the key is that the breakfast is very disappointing, with European sausages placed in Japanese utensils. To be honest, it is not worth the price.
The room was tired and borderline shabby. For the price, it didn’t seem to be a good value. There is heritage and then there is just not updating things that should have been updated long ago like the stained carpet. I wouldn’t stay there again. The staff felt the same. The upside was the room was large. But the bathroom was, again, in need of updating and felt shabby. It was a disappointing stay in...

A charming place with super helpful staff. If I ever return to Kyoto, I would definitely choose the same hotel. Great location in the heart of Kyoto, close to everything. Thank you for this wonderful time!
The absolute best spot we could have chosen to stay in Kyoto. It’s tucked away off of the street and from the second you step past the door you are attended to. The staff is so incredibly friendly and attentive to anything you need. The rooms are clean and give you the feel of staying in traditional housing with some modern amenities. It’s worth it to get the meals included. Breakfast is traditional...
My wife and I booked here for the final night of our stay in Kyoto. This Ryokan is cozy and friendly. The rooms are beautiful. The staff very friendly. We included the dinner and breakfast wearing the provided yukata’s which were provided. The dinner was spectacular. The breakfast was traditional. So not bacon and eggs. We would highly recommend this place for a stay.
A lovely hotel in a beautiful neighborhood close to many temples that you can easily walk to within 5 to 10 minutes. The Wagyu dinner was beyond words delicious. The hotel staff was so helpful when I hurt my arm and needed to see a doctor. My husband and I highly recommend, a Five Star experience!
What a wonderful place to stay - I enjoyed five nights at Kyokoyado Yasaka Yutone- a beautiful traditional inn with great staff, excellent chef and very clean an comfortable rooms. The location is great too - walking distance to World Heritage Sights, museums and historic streets of Gion famous for geiko (geishas) who still practice their dancing and musical skills today - but in exclusive tea houses...
I can only say it's average. I freeze to death on the second floor with the air conditioner on. I get so hot without it.
