Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Kawaramachi Jokyoji in Kyoto

I stayed for two nights. Unfortunately, the weather was fine, but the room was large and there was a large shared bath, so I enjoyed my stay. It's easy to get around even on rainy days because you can walk quite close to Shijo subway station via an underground passage. Takashimaya is nearby, there are plenty of restaurants around, and if you make the effort, you can walk to Gion, which is very convenient for sightseeing. I had breakfast twice, but it was too luxurious to look at, and I felt happy in the morning. You can choose the main course, but on the first day I chose sea bream chazuke, and on the second day I made chirashizushi. From the first tea to dessert, it was very thoughtful, and I enjoyed it with my eyes and tongue. Breakfast alone is worth it. Luckily, I also participated in the morning work and was able to get the original book of the hotel's red stamps and the red seal of Jekyoji. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto. Finally, Mr. Inoichi Ramen near the hotel was insanely delicious.

Upon entering the hotel, I was greeted by the scent of incense (Nijo Shoeido that day), and the reception area had a solemn and tranquil atmosphere, so quiet I couldn't believe it was in the city center. Hojicha and sencha are brought before the morning meal, and the selected "Kumei" is served with sea bream sashimi on rice and can also be enjoyed with sea bream chazuke. It was delicious. The large shared bath also had good hot water, but it would have been nice to have a switchable shower function in the room. The bed was also very comfortable. The location is easy to access, and the staff is friendly, making me want to use it again.

The hotel's location is fantastic! It's just a 5-minute walk from the subway station and right in a lively residential area. Eating and shopping are incredibly convenient, and it's even within walking distance to several attractions!

Everything in Japan gets more expensive around New Year's, and this hotel was no exception. It has a really cool, stylish design, which I loved! However, it's right next to a cemetery. So, if that's something that bothers you, you might want to reconsider. Overall though, it was a very good stay.

This hotel boasts an excellent location, making it incredibly convenient for getting around, shopping, and running errands. The surrounding amenities are comprehensive, and transportation is hassle-free. The breakfast selection is extensive, offering both Western and Chinese options that are fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The room was clean and tidy, and the service was warm and attentive. Overall, it was a comfortable and stress-free experience with great value for money. It's suitable for both business trips and leisure travel. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

This hotel is in a great location nearly next to Nishiki Market. Around the hotel is very quiet.

The room we received was facing the graveyard, I’m not sure why there are so many negatives reviews about it but we had no problems with it. No ****** visited us😋😅

The bed was very spacious but a little hard. The pillows were also quite hard so we woke up sore a few times… overall the room was very clean and amenities were available downstairs if needed like toothbrush or qtips.

The staff were very kind and brought our luggage to our room before we arrived through luggage forwarding. After check out, they also allowed us to store it in the back for a few hours.

Hotel is clear and close to city centre. Room size is good and large.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay at Mitsui. It’s right in the middle o the bustling city yet the surrounding area has a somewhat more laidback vibe. Breakfast is superb, the onsen is very relaxing, our room was tastefully designed and spacious enough for two. We joined in the early morning temple ritual that cleared our headspace and given us spiritual grounding..This is now one of my best kept secret when going to Kyoto. 😉 will definitely go back to explore and recharge.

Stayed at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kawaramachi Jokyoji from 20-24 Dec. This was my 2nd stay there in 2 consecutive months, despite there being hundreds of hotels in Kyoto. 

Location:  the hotel is located in the city center with Nishiki Market and Teramachi indoor shopping street located very closeby. Kawaramachi is also a big commercial street lined with plethora of shops and malls.  Train stations within walking distance. 

Hotel Facilities and Amenities:  this is a very beautiful hotel next to a temple (and small cemetery). The rooms are exemplary clean and quite spacious for Japan’s standard. Many facilities such as a public onsen, on-site restaurant, vending machine, ice machine, etc. No gym, which is not a big deal at all if you are in Kyoto for a short tourist visit.  You will be doing a lot of walking anyway if you choose to.  

I only visited the on-site restaurant for dinner once. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Service staff was accommodating (I had to use a wheelchair at the time); however, service was lackluster otherwise.  


Hotel staff service:  cannot praise the service by the hotel staff enough. This time around, I had injured my foot and couldn’t walk for 2 days. I was touched by the staff’s incredible kindness - they went out of their way to really help me out.

Overall:  if you want city center location with easy access to modern shops and an array of restaurants within walking distance, big and super clean room, and great hospitality,  I’d highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel's location is excellent. Turn left when you exit, and you'll find Sentaro's main store. Keep walking, and there's Ichi Ramen, a 100-yen shop, a business supermarket, and a Fresco supermarket. Turning left also quickly gets you to Takashimaya and a FamilyMart convenience store.

The breakfast was generally decent. You can order one main dish from the menu, and they have freshly made onigiri. The music in the public bath (Onsen) was quite atmospheric, haha. However, the toilet in our room wasn't cleaned thoroughly, and the duvet itself had some stains, though they're usually not noticeable when covered by the sheet.

The front desk and restaurant staff had good English and service attitudes.
