Such as shame. This could be wonderful………Unfortunately it was very run down and in need of a complete refurbishment. The wall had stains on the wood work was shabby and the bathroom was very dated. There was no shower only hand held spray and the hairdryer was useless. It felt grubby in all areas but didn’t smell and was clean! The Onsen was closed and we were tied to a specific breakfast time which we asked to make later but was told no. We complained to our booking company who arranged for a change of room which was on the top floor with far greater space but still in a shabby state. I would have rather stayed elsewhere as this affected my whole Kyoto experience. I couldn’t wait to leave and head to Osaka.

The room is OK, with a normal Japanese layout, but the price/performance ratio is not high, especially if the window is not facing the Kamo River, it is just an ordinary Japanese hotel

I stayed at this hotel in 2016. This time I booked it for my friend. It still feels a bit old. It's quite comfortable to walk along the nearby Kamogawa River, and the sanitation is also very clean.

Ryokan 10 minutes from the metro, relatively clean and quiet. Friendly, attentive staff but speaking little English. The room is clean but small for 4. Considering the services, the onsen not working, it is relatively expensive because a little out of the way

A few girls were traveling together, and because they were booked too late, there were not many Japanese-style hotels to choose from. This one pretty much meets our requirements.

This is the Japanese city I've enjoyed the most, I still have a lot to do and this hotel is a very welcoming marvel, the owners are keen to help you make your stay the best and it is, you don't want to leave!! Breakfast is traditional Japanese, but you can choose Western. The shared bathroom is very nice and welcoming, you always have hot water to make your green tea and they leave you with traditional clothes. The streets of this city don't make you want to leave with its canals and bridges, very old and traditional houses, there are handmade sweets businesses and the hike up to the temple is through a shopping mall that spends hours looking at everything there is, amazing!! This hotel is a gem!

with my friends we spent two nights in the Tazuru ryokan because we particularly wanted to try this kind of experience, in full Japanese style. Considering the place, the view and the beauty of the hotel I think it's well worth the money.

The first impression is that it is like everything else in Japan. Neet with friendly staff. Unfortunately they speaks very poor English and because of the language barrier our room was completely canceled when we arrived (Mikael Sagström has explained it well here). We had to rebook the visit in a smoking room which was perfumed to hide the smoke. The room didn't live up to the expectations, cockroaches in the bathroom and dusty flat yokan mattresses to sleep on. We only stayed one night. The rating is mostly for the breakfast which is Great!

We had problems with our booking. The Booking trouble was because the booking agent closed and wasnt Tazurus fault, but i called ahead to make sure everything was fine and they said everything was ok. But when we arrived they had canceled our booking. we finaly got a room, a smooking room (we booked non smooking but every room is smooking allowed) . The room was ok. Nice traditional japanese room. But the insekts in bathroom made the room exeprience worse. The big plus for Tazuru is the breakfast that was amazing.
