Kyoto Granbell Hotel in Kyoto

We wanted a hotel in Gion with a public bath/onsen and Kyoto Granbell fit the bill. Originally we booked a moderate twin 18m2 but I was worried it would be too small so we upgraded to the Japanese twin 22sq meters and it was exactly what we wanted. The room was spacious and felt very comfortable. We had enough room to spread out and it feel like we were on top of each other. The lobby area is great with free coffee and snacks & wifi. We didn’t do breakfast but it looked good. I used the onsen every day and it was great! Fully stocked with shampoo, lotion, q tips, cotton pads, water station. Small but functions and very beautiful. The location was the best! Two doors down from En en for great Gyoza, 5 min walk to Hiniku to come, around the block from Pizza Stada, and a couple blocks from the bus station & the Main Street in Gion. Staff were lovely & spoke pretty good English. Comparable to Coutryard Marriott. Highly recommend. Would stay again.

Nicely designed boutique hotel. Cannot comment on the food as we didn’t take this option but room was clean and practically designed. Staff very professional and friendly. Located well for good restaurant choices.

The room is on the smaller side, but the bed is incredibly comfortable. The breakfast offers a great variety, and the lobby lounge area is very cozy. Plus, there's a hot spring on B1 which, though not huge, is wonderfully relaxing. The location is super convenient for getting around, with easy access to transport and plenty of dining options nearby.

Love how it is located nearby Gion and tourist area. 

The hotel is beautiful and well located, public bathroom issues also great. Staffs are super friendly and helpful.
On the other side, room is too small. Automatic toilet has very bad smell and cannot get rid of that smell. Drying machines at the laundry are super dirty, after washing and drying, tons of dust on my clothes.

Loved the huge bed! This bed is probably the biggest I’ve seen in Japan 😂
Room was sufficient, they provided everything we needed, spacious enough to open two suitcases.
The hotel provides snacks and coffee at the lobby. Nice!

Can‘t praise the Granbell Hotel enough. Great location. Nice stylish room. Reasonable price. We habe breakfast from a nearby Starbucks but the buffet looked ok. Laundry service in the basement.

A little gem of a hotel right in the middle of Kyoto! Location could not be better. The hotel itself is "Japan sized" (rooms are small) but the space is so cleverly used I spent more time marvelling at the efficiency in design than worrying about the lack of space. Service similarly was very efficient, what was provided was what was needed and done to a high standard. Rooms were not cleaned every day but nice fresh towels were provided every morning. There was no laundry service but there were excellent coin operated laundry machines. Would certainly stay here the next time I return to Kyoto!

This is my second stay. I love the location, convenience to get around and the onsen in the basement.

My pet peeve is their procedure to take a CC deposit to make a restaurant reservation call which caused time wasted back and forth to find out the restaurant was fully booked.




Lovely staff, rooms a bit on the small side. Breakfast not great.
