Business Hotel Taihei Annex in Matsuyama

The hotel staff were incredibly kind! I think I messed up dialing the phone and only my voice went through, but before I could figure out what to do, they came to my room to assist me. Both at check-in and check-out, they were just as lovely. Such great service for an affordable price!

While I felt that hotel prices in Matsuyama were a little on the expensive side, this hotel provided decent value for money. It's conveniently located near the tram station, and although the building isn't new, it was spotless. I had hoped to relax until the 10 AM check-out, but the cleaning of other rooms started, and it got quite loud. While some noise is to be expected, I really wish the staff wouldn't speak so loudly to each other. Guests should be entitled to a peaceful environment right up until check-out. Apart from this issue, I was very satisfied.

The rooms are a decent size. On the first floor, there's a microwave and an ice machine for guests to heat food and grab ice. The hotel is located right behind Matsuyama Castle, with a hiking trail starting there that leads directly up to the castle, so you don't have to go all the way around to the front entrance. For transportation, it's conveniently close to Iyo Railway Shimizu-machi Station. If you have a JR Shikoku Pass, you can ride all Iyo Railway trains. We used the Iyo Railway daily to get around, which was incredibly convenient.

The location is highly recommended if you enjoy walking. However, even if you prefer not to walk extensively, there's a tram station and a 7-Eleven just a 1-2 minute walk directly outside the property, which is super convenient, especially for solo travelers. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the view from the property was fantastic. Being situated behind Matsuyama Castle, it's easily accessible on foot for those who don't mind a stroll, and overall, it offered fantastic value for money!

The hotel is approximately a 20-minute walk from the bustling city center. Situated behind Matsuyama Castle and a nearby park, it offers a tranquil environment and pleasant views. The convenient tram system nearby also makes it ideal for exploring. If you enjoy walking and taking leisurely strolls, I highly recommend this place. The amenities are well-appointed, and both the hotel's hot spring (onsen) and breakfast restaurant are particularly excellent.

The hotel is conveniently located at the foot of Matsuyama Castle Park. From the hotel, a convenient mountain path (walk left for a few hundred meters, then turn left again) offers a direct, pleasant 20-minute uphill walk to Matsuyama Castle, sparing you the ropeway trip. To reach the hotel from JR Matsuyama Station, take the Iyo Railway Loop Line (tram) from the front of the station (to your left after exiting) for 7 stops and alight at Shimizu-cho Station. The hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the station, across the street from the platform, and you can clearly see Matsuyama Castle Park from there.

While the hotel's facilities are a bit dated, they are clean and well-maintained. A great perk is the complimentary hot spring bath (onsen) available in the evening. Please note, the onsen is not in the annex building; guests need to exit the hotel and walk a short distance (a few dozen meters) to the right to the main building to access it. After a day of traveling, soaking in the hot spring is definitely a rewarding experience.

Breakfast is not included with the stay, but vouchers can be purchased at the front desk for 1000 JPY per person. Like the onsen, breakfast is served in the main building. It's a Japanese-style breakfast with a decent variety and offers good value for the price.

While the 20-minute walk to Okai town center was a slight downside, the facilities were incredibly clean, and the staff were exceptionally friendly.

The location is a bit out of the way, and the facilities are average.

The Japanese staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. When there was a language barrier, they promptly used a translator device to communicate with me sentence by sentence. I believe the onsen was located at their main branch, but I was simply too tired to visit it. Nonetheless, the cleanliness was impeccable, as always.

Decor could be a bit updated, but other than that, no problems. Standard budget business hotel. When searching for the hotel on google maps, make sure to look for “Business Hotel Taihei Annex” rather than Hotel Taihei as the two are about 100m away.
