I'm not sure how this place got such high ratings. As soon as I walked in, I saw a huge cockroach. I was assigned a room on the second floor, and it was incredibly noisy, I'm not sure if it was a bar or something downstairs. The front desk service was okay. A 4-star hotel in Kota Kinabalu is probably comparable to a 3-star in China.

The shower water was too hot and the soundproofing wasn't great. Breakfast wasn't to my taste, and the hotel is located halfway up a mountain with nothing around, so you have to take a taxi everywhere. On the plus side, the price was cheap – you can't have everything perfect!

The hotel is located on a hillside, away from the busy surroundings, making it a great place for a quiet and comfortable night’s rest. It is equipped with a gym and swimming pool, offering a pleasant environment for guests to exercise during their free time. The room is cozy and spacious enough for a solo traveler like me, and it comes with all the necessary amenities. Breakfast is average to start the day, though the hotel could consider adding more main dish options. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

We had our Sabah Geriatric Conference 2025 at The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu, and the experience was excellent.
The banquet team was truly outstanding — professional, attentive, and very accommodating throughout the event. The service, food quality, and pricing were all top-notch and well-balanced. The newly renovated hall and rooms were excellent — modern, spacious, and comfortable. Our delegates genuinely enjoyed the refreshed setup and pleasant atmosphere.
The hotel’s convenient location near the city centre also made logistics smooth and accessible for all participants.

Very bad experience ~ the room i was given didnt have air cond. It was like sitting in 40C sauna room. When complained, a technician came, said need to top up gas, and went vanishing. Had to losge complaint again after waiting so long. And the receptionist staff was asking us, what the technician said, whats wrong with the air cond bla bla.. After i raised voice, another technician came, checked again, and tried giving the same excuse.. No gas just need to topup. This time i was firm with him regarding the timing. He came back and put some ?gas and it was less hot but wasnt cold the whole night. There was only 1 water bottle with oily kettle. I had bad headache staying here. Nx morning, i ordered Grab coffee, and the receptionist refused to just accept the Grab food while im cmg down the lift. Very rude after a horrible service. When i struggled to load my luggage into the car, no help whatsover from their staff.

All staff was friendly, overall look of the hotel was also nice. However the room itself although spacious, it was not the cleanest there were hairs that were not mine everywhere, bedsheets with old blood stains and were not changed even though I’ve asked to clean the the room twice, they only tidy and not actually clean. Then when it comes to amenities they were very stingy and did not replace anything until I was almost out of toothpaste, shower gel and shampoo.
Overall I would say it is OK for the price, but those things I mentioned did affect the comfort of my stay

Need to be improved. there was a cockroach in the bathroom and a lizard fallen from the ceiling. on top of that, the hot water wasn’t working and we showered in cold water. to worsen, the aircond was not in good condition, it was hot in the room even it 16*c.. in addition, one of the plug was also damage and we have to ask for the maintenance to fix it and they did.
