I have just spent 3 nights at the Governor’s Residence hotel in Yangon. It has been spectacular, the old colonial style building with teak floors and beautiful gardens creates a miniature Raffles atmosphere.
This is ‘gem’ of a hotel, tucked away in the diplomatic quarter of the city. It’s a must visit location. If you want a classic Burmese hotel, this is the place. Quality service, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Great for couples, families and business trips, this is the best place to stay.
From peacocks 🦚 in the garden, classic fresh water garden swimming pool to luxurious rooms. We stayed in a Governor’s Suite and it was fabulous.

Had an amazing time at Governor’s residence with my son Charlie and family. Beautiful surroundings in a peaceful location in the heart of the diplomatic quarter. The staff were fantastic and the rooms extremely comfortable. Highly recommend, will definitely return when in Yangon.

Had a lovely time here. We ordered coffee, pasta, mushroom pastry and lime soda. Everything tasted really good. The flavors are gentle but well-done, and portions are satisfying.

Just a note:
• If you go for à la carte, you’ll need to order by yourself from the menu.
• But on weekdays during lunch and dinner, they also have set menus, so it’s more convenient and you don’t have to think too much about what to choose.

Atmosphere is peaceful and elegant as always. A nice place to slow down, chat, and enjoy good food.

Will definitely come again. 🌿✨

We have recently stayed at the Governor’s Residence for 6 nights and cannot recommend this historic hotel highly enough.
It is a beautiful building, in such a peaceful setting and in an excellent location for site seeing.
The rooms / grounds and facilities are very well kept. We enjoyed wonderful meals/breakfasts on the restaurant veranda every day.
The service is among the best we have had & the staff attend to your every need and they each went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.
Would recommend to anyone passing through and wanting some time out.

Review of the Governor’s Residence, Yangon

The Governor’s Residence in Yangon is a luxury hotel set in a beautifully restored 1920s teak mansion. Once the home of a colonial governor, it now offers guests a rare mix of history, elegance, and modern comfort. Located in the peaceful Embassy Quarter, it feels like a tranquil retreat away from the city’s noise.

Rooms are spacious and decorated with teak wood and silks, while thoughtful touches like fruit baskets and local sweets add warmth. Dining is another highlight, with the breakfast buffet praised for its mix of Burmese favorites such as mohinga and international dishes. Meals are served on verandas overlooking tropical gardens, creating an atmospheric setting.

The fan-shaped pool and lotus ponds add to the sense of escape, but what makes the hotel truly special is its staff, who are consistently described as attentive, friendly, and welcoming.

It remains one of Yangon’s finest hotels.

Wow, what a beautiful place! The staff were incredibly friendly and personable. We felt like we were 100 km from the city, right in the center of Yangon. The pool and facilities are well maintained and simply excellent.

It was a great pleasure to be at Governor Belmond's residence in Yangon during the pandemic. The hotel staff was very helpful. The hotel has almost all the amenities: good rooms, face mask, sensitizing spray and hand gel, and they also take care of the safety standards as they have checked the body temperature scanner and wear a mask before arrival. We can join yoga classes on Saturday and Sunday, it was great. We can say that the food was great, like homemade fresh food (I'm serious :)) Overall the experience was amazing. I recommend this hotel to every couple and families :). You won't regret it, just be there :) You can call and book in advance to get a package to stay there.
