The staff receives high praise for friendliness, attentiveness, and willingness to fulfill guest requests, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The food quality, including breakfast and dinner, is frequently described as excellent with tasty local and vegetarian options. Guests appreciate the private beach and the outdoor swimming pool that is cleaned daily. Bike rentals provided by the hotel are convenient for island exploration and well-liked despite some bikes being older. Several reviews mention that some rooms are outdated, basic, and in need of renovation, with issues like poor water pressure and old towels. WiFi coverage is limited, only reliably working near the reception area. Safety concerns were raised regarding slippery stairs leading to the restaurant and rooms, with at least one guest experiencing an injury. Some guests reported poor service experiences related to payment methods and currency exchange rates, describing staff as unhelpful in those instances. Food quality was inconsistent according to some guests, particularly complaints about buffet food freshness and limited vegetarian dinner options.

Description

Patatran Village Hotel is a small, quiet 3-star property built in 1992 and renovated in 2012, located on the rocky hillside overlooking Anse Patates bay on La Digue island. The hotel consists of eighteen 1-2-story cottages with a total of 21 rooms, offering a variety of room types from standard to deluxe and suites, many with ocean views. Guests can enjoy a private sandy beach just steps away, although a road separates the hotel from the shore. The hotel features one restaurant and one bar, an outdoor swimming pool, and offers amenities like free parking, WiFi, air conditioning, and an internet cafe (for a fee). Facilities for families include a children’s pool section, kids’ menu, high chairs, and cribs on request. The hotel service is rated well overall, with guests praising friendly and attentive staff and beautiful ocean views, though some rooms show signs of age and require maintenance.

Location

Patatran Village Hotel is positioned in Anse Patates, La Digue, Seychelles. It is approximately 15 km from Praslin Island airport and about 4 km from La Digue’s main port. The hotel is right by its own sandy beach, Anse Patate Beach, providing direct beach access. The location offers peaceful surroundings with tropical nature and nearby granite boulders. While the beach is adjacent, note that a road runs between the hotel and the shore. The hotel is also close to local attractions such as excursions and entertainment programs, making it convenient for exploring the island by bicycle, which can be rented on-site.

Tips

  • Expect some uphill walking if staying in cottages located on the hillside with ocean views.
  • Bring swim shoes for snorkeling at the beach due to corals.
  • Use the hotel’s bike rental to explore the island since La Digue is small but some roads can be dark at night, so avoid walking after dark or bring a torch.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Hotel Patatran Village on La Digue.

The hotel is beautifully located directly at Anse Patates surrounded by tropical nature. The charming little houses built on the hillside with mangos and coconuts besides the road and the sound of the ocean create a very special atmosphere and make the whole feel peaceful and exclusive.

The service was outstanding from the very first moment. The entire team was incredibly friendly and just soo customer oriented, every wish was fullfilled.
Every single member of the staff made our stay unforgettable and just like the honeymoon we dreamed of – I honestly cannot name everyone because each and every one of them deserves recognition. You truly feel welcomed here.

The food was excellent at all times. Either it was breakfast or dinner, the quality and taste were always superb.

We stayed in a beautiful cottage located higher up the hill, which does involve a bit of walking uphill. However, once you reach your room, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view that makes every step absolutely worth it.

In conclusion: absolutely recommendable in every way. A fantastic place to stay on La Digue – we will definitly come back! 👍

Lovely hotel with Anse-Patates beach at its door step. We were welcomed by lovely Sophie-Ann with a nice smile , very polite. Great dinner with local dancers. All staff greeted us and checked up on us especially during breakfast & dinner. Great views for breakfast. The hotel provides in-room amenities for convenience. A lovely hotel for a relaxing escape. Owners are also very welcoming and accommodating. Will definitely return. 10/10

Stayed in a superior room and absolutely loved the view from balcony. The food at the hotel has been the best we’ve had in Seychelles. Chef Deepak stood out he made a fantastic sandwich and an even better spaghetti (overall good for vegetarian s). The cocktails were great too.

We booked a standaard room but this was really limited and outdated. But the shower was hot so that was good. The matras of the bed was not so good. Better to book the new rooms next to the main building.
Location is very nice next to Anse Patates.
The breakfast is with fresh fruits which we enjoyed. Also a good omelet was very good prepared. Simple bikes are available for rent. Which we were using for 3 days.
The stairs to the restaurant is very slippery and I felt downstairs. This was not plessant. Later back home I learned I broke my hand.
Overall we enjoyed La Dique and Anse Patates.

We stayed at Villa Des Flots, (which has super steep stairs so not good for older people or with knee problems) after we arrived we were told to pay at this hotel the next day. Before we arrived we asked if we could pay in dollars, they said it was alright, but when we arrived they choose the most expensive exchange rate making it 50usd more expensive. They say this is the standard but this was the only hotel out of the 4 we stayed at in Seychelles that did this to us. Besides If they had a special rate they should have told us when we asked about paying in dollars, specially since their defence is that “it changes every day”. Other complains are they the rooms are very basic, the wifi is awful and only works if you are standing next to reception, and that the towels feel like sandpaper. Also while trying to pay the staff was very rude and unhelpful, the one that seemed like the manager was constantly making faces at us also because one of the dollars was an older one and don’t want it, and even after this they didn’t have change of 50 (though they knew we were arriving and paying in dollars). They also said that this is how every hotel works but I also work in hotels and that’s not how it works, and also friends that stayed in a different hotel in La Digue said they paid with a different exchange rate which was cheaper and made more sense (and checked in on the same date).

We stayed 3 nights in Chandel room, a “Superior”. It was the end of the row on the top level so lots of steps to climb (staff deliver luggage). The view from the balcony was just WOW! A gorgeous room, very clean, freshly painted/decorated (silly netting removed from around bed so looks modern - saw no mosquitos). Modern aircon unit. Balcony was mostly shaded, which suited us, a perfect place for morning cuppa of evening drinks - loved watching the birds, bats and early fishermen. Fridge was stocked with reasonably priced water, soft drinks and beer. Breakfasts were great: plenty of variety. I loved the fresh fruit and omelette. And what an amazing view from the deck!! Looking over the most beautiful beach! Good for snorkelling too. Always a much appreciated breeze. We hired bikes from Cycle Sea because I wanted an e-bike, but the Patatran bikes looked pretty good and convenient. All staff were kind, helpful and totally brilliant! We loved the Creole party buffet on the beach. Amazing local singers. This is a really good value hotel at the prettiest part of a wonderful island. If you have mobility issues, you may need to speak with the hotel to ensure a lower floor room.

After a frustrating stay in Praslin, the Patatran Hotel gave us a truly wonderful experience.
The hotel grounds are well-maintained, spacious, beautiful, and the location is unbeatable.

The food is varied and delicious, and the service is professional.
What we would especially like to highlight, however, are the hotel’s employees – particularly those working in the bar and restaurant area. They played a huge part in making our stay unforgettable. Professional, attentive, and simply kind-hearted people that we will truly miss.

I hope management realizes what incredible staff they have.

Our bungalow-style room was also clean and well-kept. The view from the room was breathtaking, and after a tiring stay in Praslin, we finally found the rest and recovery we needed.

The hotel also offers rental bicycles. Although they are a bit older, they serve their purpose perfectly for exploring the island. There is also a pool, which is cleaned daily and a pleasure to swim in.

Our time at the Patatran Hotel was truly wonderful! With a few necessary investments and renovations in the future, this hotel will remain a fantastic place for memorable holidays.

its a bit outside the main area but definitely worth it - La Digue is not big at all so you get anywhere with a bicycle in any case. we really enjoyed the rooms, service and location and the hotel beach. beautiful place and well worth to use it as base for the island.

Firstly the views from the balcony are amazing and sell the hotel. Rooms are very dated (we stayed in a deluxe room called Bamboo) and in need of a refurb but we did have everything we needed in our room except a chest of draws for out clothing. It provided plenty of wardrobe space but no draws. That being said it would have been nice to have a bottle of water provided after travelling for 20 hours and the steep steps needed to be climbed to get to our room The Towels were very old, off colour and frayed. When walking in the main reception areas it also appears not to have been decorated for many many years, The pool area and communal areas are fair but again dirty sun beds. We have to leave a deposit for the beach towels again very stained, frayed and off colour which I found very embarrassing when using them on the beach. We paid for bed and breakfast and the food was appalling. Egg station when was ok but all the ingredients look liked it had been there for days. Fruit was cut up but dry and looked like it had been there for days. Food in the silver trays appears to be what was left over from the night before and perhaps a few sausages added to cover the breakfast aspect. One evening we decided to have dinner at the hotel restaurant as a buffet was advertised. When we arrived there was not buffet and we were given the menu for full board visitors and there were only two choices, I did not like either and asked if there was a vegetarian choice and was told no. I asked what other options there were and she then asked if I would like to see the a la carte ( think she was trying to avoid preparing anything that was not on the menu). Again the menu had very little to choice. We opted for the chicken curry - well I really did not think we were given chicken as it was so tough and dry that we could not eat it. We charged the meal to our room and left. We have since been charge £70 for the meal which really was uneatable. We did not bother with breakfast again. Hired bike through the hotel bike hire, at an expenses, but we enjoyed this and it made getting around the island very pleasurable. Hotel at the far end of the island and not walkable at night as there is no lighting and it get very dark very quickly. If you do decide to walk to the port area I would advise you bring a good torch as riding a bike would not be advisable due to steep drops that cannot be seen. The Island of La Digue is very beautiful and we would return and stay at one of the better hotels. We chose to eat a a few and the there really was a huge difference. On our final morning we went to reception to settle out bill and my card was declined 4 times! I asked if she could try again as I had used it the night before and there was no problem with credit. Again it was declined. I ended up having to call my bank who had not received any requests. When I explained this the lady tried another card ready and it went straight through. All this took around 30 min

The hotel doesn’t deserve more than 2*. The only pluses of the hotel are a beautiful small intimate beach right next door and service people who really try to be nice. The hotel should have undergone a major renovation a long time ago. The rooms are old, dirty. There is mold in the room. The water pressure in the shower is a failure. Internet access only in the room. Beach towels are dirty, damaged and stained. Food is not good. Definitely not worth believing the photos from the Internet.
