Hotel Santiago Plaza Affiliated by Meliá in Santiago de Compostela

The hotel itself has an old-fashioned charm and clearly aims to present a sense of classic elegance. However, the staff’s attitude doesn’t match the ambiance. Service often felt dismissive, as though they believed they were only there to serve royalty.

A particular example was Marcos, a waiter who seemed more interested in doubting whether guests had paid than offering assistance — he couldn’t find my name on the list and made no effort to handle the situation with courtesy. Unfortunately, the reception staff had a similarly cold and unwelcoming approach.

While the hotel wants to resemble a traditional, elegant establishment, the behavior of the personnel feels more suited to a basic hostel. The mismatch between the decor and the service experience was very disappointing.

If you want to sleep on a very firm mattress and have your items taken by housekeeping. Stay here.
I stayed 2 nights on a tour, so I did not choose this hotel for myself. It's about a 7 minute drive from the cathedral and main historic area. First night was horrible sleep, the bed is so firm my hips and back hurt. The next morning I asked for blankets for the bed to make it softer. I wanted them under the sheet. The woman at the front desk had an attitude like she's tired of hearing about this. They put some blankets but it did not help. Then after I get back from touring around on the 2nd day housekeeping had been in my room to put blankets on the bed. I noticed my small box of plastic bags( like sandwich bags) is gone. I left in the morning, it was there. I come back, it's gone. So random. I am so glad I locked my bags when I left. Otherwise, who knows what would be missing. If you stay here cause you do like a firm mattress. Lock your bags. The bar area was very friendly and they do have a nice breakfast with nice staff for servers.
