Petit Hostel La Latina in Madrid

This hostel is run by AI there are no humans in this hostel. You enter by putting your sensitive information in a kiosk outside of the hostel, so make sure you have data/wifi. I did this and arrived after checkout time (4 pm), yet the system would not give me my key card, saying that “the bed wasn’t ready”. So I clicked the help button, which connects to a call center in a far away foreign country. The first time, a woman picked up and said she’s “helping other customers” and she hung up on me, it took 20 more minutes for anyone to answer. A man picked up the call and when I said hello he said “ you better be nice or else I’m not going to help you” I was too stunned to speak, it was pouring rain and all I said was hola. Eventually he realized the mistake and fixed it, I was able to check in. Well it got worse. When you enter the building you have to go down stairs, and there is no elevator, so be prepared if you have heavy bags. I was fortunate to get put in a female dorm, however when I opened the door there was a broken full glass mirror all over the floor. Glass shards were everywhere. I immediately used WhatsApp to tell the ai chat bot, who told me it will transfer it to a human. One hour later, they told me they will not fix anything as “it’s not their fault” . I begged them saying there is glass in the bathroom, shower, everywhere, that this cannot be safe. I asked for compensation and they refused. Well after begging and pleading they sent a human to clean up the glass.

Outside of this tumultuous entry, it seems they have humans clean the rooms every few hours. It is clean, and whatever material they use for the floors dries water quite quickly so the showers and bathroom was fine. They came in about 4 times a day to do random things like change key cards and clean the common bathroom. Because my dorm only had 2-3 people at a time, it was manageable but I would not stay here if it was fully booked, because the walkway is quite narrow and there are no windows if it gets too hot. They do give a free towel (most hostels dont so this was a nice touch), and there is no need to bring a padlock, because your keycard will do it for you.There is no luggage storage. With all this considered, I want you to take a good look at yourself and say is this something I want to do. This is not a social hostel, it’s honestly more of a capsule hotel. I think they should market it like that, and make it more apparent when booking it is run by AI.
