Hostal Greco Gran Via Madrid presents a classic dilemma for travellers: an unbeatable location at the heart of Madrid’s vibrant Gran Via, coupled with significant draw may impact your stay.
Pros:
The hostal's most compelling asset is its exceptionally centric location. Guests will find themselves immersed in the city's energy, with all major stores, attractions, restaurants, and pubs within a short walking distance. This connectivity is a huge advantage for exploring Madrid on foot, saving both time and money on transportation.
Furthermore, Hostal Greco boasts good customer service, with a 24-hour reception ensuring assistance is always available. The staff are generally friendly, and the daily cleaning routines contribute to a sense of order and tidiness in the common areas.
Cons:
Unfortunately, the hostal's prime location on Gran Via comes with a major caveat: noise. Guests should be prepared for a very noisy environment, which can lead to sleep disruptions. This is exacerbated by the lack of effective sound insulation in the aged and not well-isolated rooms. Adding to the noise issue, hostal's staff can also be noisy at very early hours of the day, further impacting rest.
Beyond the noise, several other comfort issues were noted. The absence of air conditioning can be a significant discomfort, particularly during warmer months. Practical concerns include towels that smell badly, which is a basic amenity that should be consistently fresh. Finally, the full dependency on the hostal’s receptionist for accessing the building, coupled with the continuous disruption of the doorbell and telephone, can feel intrusive and inconvenient.
Overall:
Hostal Greco Gran Via Madrid is a practical option for travellers prioritizing an incredibly central location above all else. Its proximity to everything Madrid has to offer is undeniably convenient. However, those sensitive to noise, reliant on good air conditioning, or expecting a more modern and well-maintained room will likely find the hostal’s drawbacks significant. If you’re a light sleeper or value peace, and quiet during your stay, you may want to consider other options. For budget-conscious travellers willing to trade some comfort for unparalleled access to Madrid's pulse, Hostal Greco could be a workable, albeit imperfect, choice.

Small but close to most attractions in Madrid

Worst people I’ve ever dealt with. I called asking for a private room now and they said yes. I show up and they say no. I was extremely sick and could barely stand and they made me leave, wouldn’t even let me sit on the stair

Good location and friendly staff. The decor is old fashioned but this wasn’t a problem for me. Due to its location, noise from the streets is to be expected, but this didn’t prevent me from getting a good night sleep. As a female solo traveller I felt very safe and I will definitely stay again next time I’m in Madrid.

It’s clean and centrally located! But the bed is uncomfortable and old. We could hear people in the neighboring rooms talking all night because the walls are so thin.

Real gem of a hotel - excellent value for its location and the service you get. I travelled for a conference and spent 3 nights here, and it was so comfortable - pillows and bed were perfect, Wifi excellent, and staff friendly. It was also a quiet room despite its central location.
Really easy to get to from the airport - a 25 min bus ride and 10 min walk, and walking distance to many central attractions. I'd definitely stay at this or another Petit Palace again, I was that impressed.
I didn't have any breakfast as this was provided at the conference but did grab a cheese, tomato and ham croissant from the cafe one morning which was tasty.

I absolutely loved my stay at the Petite Palace Hotel! The room was spotless and beautifully maintained — you can tell that cleanliness is a real priority here.

One of my favorite details was the antique cast iron elevator — it gives the hotel such a unique, historic character. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always greeting me with a smile and making sure everything was perfect.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience — cozy, charming, and full of character. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

It was close to main tourist attractions and restaurants.

I really enjoyed the hotel's hospitality. The service is great. They made our bed every morning, the shower is clean, the service in the lobby is great, always with a pleasant smile and good advice. The location of the hotel is fantastic and you can get anywhere from there. The hotel is located opposite a metro station in the heart of Madrid in a fun neighborhood full of local bars and restaurants, so the prices are low compared to places for tourists.

Super courteous staff, very helpful. This accommodation has a quaint café attached to it serving great coffee and snacks; plus, the location is walkable to every tourist site, making it ideal for travellers. Very close to the metro station as well!

Such a lovely restaurant. We had the spicy nachos, Thai chicken curry, and pizza. All the food was flavorful and delicious. The interior design was stunning and the staff very welcoming and friendly. The only thing I didn't like so much was the slightly slow service, but I can understand because the place was fully packed. Recommended for an Italian dinner while in Madrid. ??

A brochure, but great food! Try the starters, it's a must. Great for sharing with friends. It's cosy and warm but always crowded, so book in advance!

Nice Cosy restaurant in the heart of malasaña. Staff is friendly, place is cool and food is a mix of Italian and Spanish plates. Average price, not so cheap for steak
