Aarunya Nature Resort & Spa in Kandy

Tucked away in the hills above Kandy is this peaceful nine-villa retreat. Our villa had incredible sunrise views over the mountains and was immersed in nature, with wildlife like monkeys, deer, and colorful birds right outside. The restaurant serves delicious Western and Sri Lankan dishes, with the traditional curry being a must-try. They were also incredibly accommodating to any special requests. The villa itself was a peaceful sanctuary with a private pool, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a patio that was sunny in the morning and shaded and cool in the evening. There's also a stunning shared pool with panoramic views. A huge thank you to the amazing staff, especially managers Dulan and Geetha, butler Lakshman, and driver Dilshan, whose exceptional service made our stay so special. From the Temple of the Tooth to an elephant safari, the excursions were fantastic. This place is worth the price paid and we can't wait to go back.

The resort was a paradise. The room was beautiful and spacious. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The food was outstanding. They provided good options for western or local dining. The panoramic views of the Knucklehead mountain range were beautiful. It is a romantic and peaceful resort.

The Aarunya Nature Resort & Spa is set high in the hillside overlooking the Knuckles Mountain Range a UNESCO world heritage site. The access road is twisty and narrow but negotiated with care you arrive at this hidden treasure. It’s certainly a place to chill out and switch off. The infinity pool has a wonderful view overlooking the mountains although our private villa pool was screened by pretty bushes. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated with a small seating area. The spiced nuts in the room were fantastic as was the food. I am gluten free and gluten free bread and pancakes were prepared specially. The Sri Lankan curry feast for 2 people which needs a few hours notice was superb - beautifully presented with wonderful flavours- we would highly recommend. The warm welcome from staff included a shoulder & neck massage and a traditional wax melting ritual. The breakfast and dinner area overlooked the pool which was very scenic. The hotel is small so don’t expect a lot of activity, food service was also offered in room which made it very quiet at times. Please note that the hotel is also some distance from Kandy - about a 40 minute drive and as it is high in the hillside it could be cool at night. We would highly recommend this pretty resort if you are looking for a quiet secluded sanctuary to chill for a few days.

As others have written, this is a great hotel. Wonderful rooms, staff, food, grounds. My only warning is that it is far from Kandy, about 45-50 minutes. So if your purpose of staying here is to see Kandy, you will spend a lot of time driving there.

Our stay at the resort was more than memorable. The resort itself is beautiful and serene but what made our stay even more special was the entire team. The service was impeccable. Everyone was courteous, professional and friendly. They were more than willing to go out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We will certainly come back here!! A special shout out to Geetha Dissanayala, who went out of her way to ensure that some items left in our villa were promptly delivered to us (four hours away).

Amazing place and impecable service. The perfect hidden sanctuary to explore Kandy region. The villa’s are fully integrated in nature and have superb views on the valley and mountains. Some rooms have an own butler which makes the stay even more special. We were almost treated like royalty. The management team is taking care of a personal welcome of the guests … highly appreciated. Top place !

Thank you for a lovely stay. This was our second time at Aarunya and it felt like home. We had an amazing and relaxing holiday. Thank you for the complimentary upgrade and great service. We had the best view of the mountains from our room and there are no words to explain - it was simply breathtaking. The staff were all so helpful and friendly and attended to us with utmost willingness. Thank you to the butlers - Mahesh, Lucky, Gihan and Namal who attended to our every need and made sure we were comfortable at all times. A special thank you to Chef Ranil for all the amazing meals he prepared for us with care and effort. He always asked us if we had any special requests and made sure we were happy. The food was amazing and some of the tastiest food we ever had, especially the lamb chops and mutton curry. Thank you to the management for being customer focused and making sure we were treated well and taken care of. Since we have been at Aarunya before, we can confidently say that this resort keeps getting better and better and is a place we will surely visit again in the near future. The villa-style hotel is located on the mountain. The room has its own swimming pool. The overall environment of the hotel is great! Especially the dinner in the restaurant is highly recommended, with 9 local Sri Lankan food, equipped with a dedicated chef and music performance, and the price is a little expensive.
